It's certainly a lovely pub, matching the lovely village it's set in. The owners will happily tell you that the 16th-century building is made from stones freed up when the Tudors dissolved a nearby Benedictine Abbey. It's also got big oak beams, a large inglenook fireplace, horseriding gear and pottery for decor, seats in front, and a beer garden. You'll find two of my favourite drops here, Old Speckled Hen and Flowers. There's a good menu, the pies and the seafood being standouts. And the pub, like the entire village of Cerne Abbas, sits under the watchful and endowed gaze of the Cerne Abbas Giant (http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/majorsites/cerne_abbass.html) . That's pretty much to be expected in most places on the planet, outside of the big cities. But it was immediately obvious here that people wanted to engage, they were genuinely friendly, and we even made some friends here! They offer the usual drinks and beers, but also a few craft beers like Tribute, and some great single malt scotches like Oban and Lagavulin. The bartenders, Mandy and Zoe were kind, friendly and made an effort to make us feel welcome in their place. For dessert we shared a special raspberry/sponge tart that Mandy recommended to us, and it was hands down spectacular. In addition to the warm atmosphere and good music, I felt the the locals here really went out of their way to get to know us.
