We went to the company theater to watch the production Abbamania, a long running ABBA tribute show,…read moreperforming since 1999. The band was made up off of three guitarist, a keyboard player, a drummer (who happened to be a female, which was very cool because I don't see a lot of them), and two female lead singers. By and large, all the members of the band were baby boomers with the exception of the drummer who seemed to be maybe in her early 30s. The two female singers dance through most of the performance and the dancing left something to be desired. This doesn't matter because the performance overall is a singing performance, and the vocalist were excellent. The music of course was a total throwback to the amazing band ABBA. I enjoyed it immensely. The singers had lots of electric stage presence, great personalities, and talent. Other than the lackluster dancing parentheses (I didn't expect stellar dancing anyway!) the only negative comment I can make is that we got aisle seats next to each other. People sitting in the rows further in arrived later than we did so we had to get up to let them through. Later on in the performance, several of these people decided to get up and dance down in front of the stage so we had to get up again. After they dance, they came back to their seats and got their pocket books and then went out to the concession stand so we had to get up again. Afterwards, of course we had to let them back to their seats for the rest of the performance. Flipping pain in the neck, but this was not the fault of the performance or the theater. I highly recommend that you see this performance if you are able to! Just be sure to get seats next to the wall, the furthest in.

I saw My Dinner With Andre at the Harbor Stage Company theater last night, Saturday, March 29 and…read moreas the movie did to me so many years ago, I was riveted by the depth of the fundamental conversations about life, death, and the meaning of our fragile existence. The intimate setting of the theater, about which much of the conversations in the play was about, created a warm personal atmosphere among the 60 or so who had this great experience. I had a lovely conversation about life's purpose with a young lady Victoria afterwards where we shared our love for the play and for the work of Virginia Woolf who also touches so deeply and beautifully life's wonder and sad fragility. Yes, we should have more great art like this to inspire us to cherish and strive to perfect, not our foolish facades, but the reality of community of all our ghost-like souls who struggle so hard during this short time on earth to find love, meaning and happiness. Thank you actors and playwrights who made this possible. The folks who worked there were also so friendly and welcoming. The actors were superb. I was amazed at how they could remember so many lines of the wonderful convoluted conversations. I wish more people could see this play. It is a magical combination of humor and philosophical depth about what truly matters in life.

There was a maze outside, beautiful trees, and plenty of parking, that was well hidden from your sight when you stood outside the theatre. Little theatres like this go to show you that even though you are a community theatre, you don't have to suck at your productions. With a little elbow grease, you can make a low budget show seem like a million dollar budget. I think this theatre (if it keeps it up) is worth every dime of ticket sales.

Attended the latest play, The Sunshine Boys, on Friday night…read more Wasn't sure what to expect as the theater is located in a church hall but was very surprised to find a very intimate setting with great comfortable seating. No reserve seating so you get to pick your seats as you enter the theater but didn't see any seat that was bad. The play was 'The Sunshine Boys' and the cast was amazing. Everyone did such a great job with the play that it surpassed even other plays we had seen at much larger venues and cities. The delivery of the lines between each actor were perfectly timed to get the most laughter as possible. It's a very small stage but the stage crew did an excellent job setting it up and then switching things around between acts. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and very eager to please. Before and during intermission snacks (candy bars) and water (paper cartons) are available for purchase at very reasonable prices and if you buy three you get a discount. All in all a great play at a great location. Will definitely be a theater we will look at attending again based on their schedule of plays.
