I've been going to Dell for years--since I was 12 years old. Unfortunately, after my recent…read moreexperience, I won't be returning. About a month ago I got a dermal piercing. This past Tuesday, the top fell off while I was cleaning it with a Q-tip. I called immediately, and the receptionist told me she would message me if an opening became available. I never heard back. I went to another piercer in Montpelier to see if they could help, but they couldn't. After waiting three days with no response from Angelina's Rose, I called again and explained that another piercer had told me it would likely be too late to save the piercing if it healed over. Instead of being seen promptly, I was offered an appointment a week later--even though by then the piercing would likely have closed, leaving surgical removal as my only option. I explained that if there were no appointments available, I was willing to come in and wait for an opening. I was finally told there was time to come in today at 10:00 a.m. When I arrived, the first thing Dell said was that I must have been touching the piercing because he "screws them on really tight." I tried to explain that it happened while I was cleaning it, but he interrupted me and said he already knew what I was going to say and that I must have been playing with it because "there's no other way" and that this had never happened to anyone else. The conversation quickly became unprofessional. He called me entitled because of the way I spoke to the receptionist. While I admit I was frustrated, I was not yelling, swearing, or being disrespectful--I was simply trying to get help before my piercing closed. I then asked why I had been told to come in at 10:00 a.m. if he had already decided he wasn't going to help me. He could have told me that over the phone and saved me the trip. His response was that when he has "shit to talk about someone," he says it to their face. I found that response incredibly unprofessional. He then told me I was no longer welcome at the shop, called me disrespectful, and refused to help me. As a result, my dermal will now likely need to be surgically removed. I also brought up that I didn't feel the receptionist had treated me kindly. Dell told me they had cameras and had reviewed the conversation, insisting she had done nothing wrong. I got the impression they were backing each other up rather than listening to my concerns, so I didn't feel like I was being heard. I told him I was glad there were cameras because I know I remained calm and never yelled or acted aggressively. To make matters worse, this isn't the first issue I've had. He pierced my second nostril crooked the first time, and I had to pay to have it repierced, even though the mistake wasn't mine. I'm incredibly disappointed with how I was treated. I've been a loyal customer for years, and I expected much better communication, professionalism, and customer service. Based on my experience, I can't recommend this shop.

I called ahead and gave her a heads up I would be 5 minutes late, she was rude on the phone but then said to still come. Absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention the business listing on google and Yelp says open til 7pm.

It's hard to recommend Touch Chi too highly. Rick and Troy provide top-flight body work, the kind…read moreyou'd expect to find in a big city. They're booked well in advance, but be persistent: they do have cancellations and might be able to slide you in if you can be flexible. I see Rick, as does my wife, though I've heard Troy is excellent, too. (It was the luck of the draw for me, but I can say that Rick is a truly gifted bodyworker--and I speak as someone who's had a wide range of massage, cranial-sacral, Hellerwork, and other types of bodywork.) This is therapeutic bodywork, the kind that helps to deal with chronic physical issues. Rick has really helped me with the chronic tension in my shoulders, as he has helped my wife deal with a nagging back problem; it's really improved since she's been under his care. A caveat: if you're looking for nice, light massage, look elsewhere. What should you expect? Informed, careful, attention to what you need physically. Are your shoulders bothering you? They'll be worked on, but so will other muscles on your back, chest, and arms that are connected to your shoulders and may, in fact, be the real problem. I've had Rick work on releasing tension in my leg, to realize that my problem knee was much less bothersome. In short, the best you'll find anywhere. We're lucky to have Touch Chi in the Upper Valley.

Beyond finding the gym, passable restaurants, and the bookstore, I also try to find good local massage businesses which isn't always easy. TouchChi came up on a Google search of the area and came highly recommended from the local service proprietors. I had hoped to be able to slide in an appointment at the last minute but found that TouchChi's service and reputation is pretty phenomenal which means they are booked out quite some time in advance. I was finally able to get some time in and had a great 60-minute session with one of the two owners. The space is in a renovated freight building and is clean, minimal, and linear. Troy greeted me as I came in, got me oriented to the space and we were able to get the massage started right away. I found him personable, extremely knowledgeable, and efficient. He made conversation when prompted but was not overwhelming or dominating when silence seemed to be more appropriate. He explained the kind of work he was doing and what he was finding as he progressed through the massage. I was interested in deep tissue work and he accommodated that along with some great forced stretches which worked together very well. I was completely satisfied with my massage session and all the pieces that went into it, including the discounted rate for first-time clients. I'm looking forward to scheduling my next appointment during the rest of my stay in the area. Highly recommended.
