If you're here, you've obviously grown tired of the rote, inflexible education of the masses based on measurements, guidelines, or even politics. If you're considering a different direction and want to know where to find forward-thinking people (educators, parents, and the kids themselves), then you have to give Appamada a good look. It's been said that we live in interesting times and, thanks to a global pandemic, that couldn't be any more true. For our family, as we tried to navigate the challenges that came along with it, we needed to find a school that would work closely our two children, separated by just under two years, and help them learn (of course), grow (definitely), and become the person they were meant to be versus an "institutional follower." Our children are nearly as different as night and day. But, at Appamada, they found individual paths to advancing their education and developing their personalities that we couldn't find elsewhere. This 'home away from home' has been their place of learning for over five years and I can see that the path they are both on, to college and beyond, has been paved nicely, with enlightened thinking, challenges big and small to overcome and learn from, and focused matriculation to help them become the best they can be, but even more importantly, the best they want to be. The staff at Appamada, across all disciplines and includes the program director, the owner, and all associated with the school are truly top-notch individuals whose sole purpose is to help the students flourish. They have repeatedly shown how much they consider and care for the individual student and have demonstrated this through their communications, program adaptation, and customized course scheduling to meet the kids where they are help them recognize where they want to go.

I've met many different niche groups here, who would typically be considered outsiders, mingling and being successful at a pace I couldn't imagine in a public school setting. Those who were cast out of their previous schools, no matter what they identify as, who they worship, or what they do in their spare time, are welcomed here with outstretched arms. The teachers here aren't merely teachers.. they're educators for the future--teaching youths to be THEMSELVES, not a 'cardboard cutout' of what you're expected to be once you roll out of college and into a full-time job. The students at KAPS rise above any expectation I could have had for a high school.. let alone for people, in general. The education plan here, I will admit, is indeed limited. However, with the population that inhabits the school, (and for the fact of that we do not get funding,) that's fairly forgivable. If it says anything.. Personally, I've been able to work my way into senior classes as a sophomore, and plan on graduating two years early as a student of 2020 because of the unlimited support that I've gotten for my education. The previous love that I had for knowledge as a child has grown into a flame I couldn't bear to put out.. and this, of course, is because of KAPS. I will say that there are some bumps in the road. There are people who do have problems and must have accommodations, and there are ridiculous things that do occasionally happen. KAPS is not a perfect school. However, the response team from both the students and educators here is miraculous.. Personally, I'm not sure where I'd be without it. KAPS, in itself, is not only a school, but a support group for those of different cultures, subcultures, and backgrounds. If you want to feel loved.. if you want to be a stronger person and if YOU want to be who YOU are.. come to this school. I promise, you won't regret it.

There are no cliques and no bullying and when we have had issues we have raised them with the teachers and they have jumped on them to solve them immediately, and unlike other private schools there's no sense of entitlement from the parents or students. Also, because the school is so good at awarding scholarships not everyone is 'rich'! The school also has a great parent teacher association which offer weekly meet-ups and play dates as well as adult only events. Each class also has a WhatsApp chat group so parents can easily communicate with each other. If it sounds like one big happy family you'd be right, that's exactly what it feels like. In terms of academics my adhd child has thrived. Diagnosed at 4 we thought she would struggle but the school has been amazing at supporting her needs and accommodating her. They also offer many different seating types from a bouncy ball chair, to cushions on the floor and other such. It's very holistic and non political and offers many diverse ways of learning. They have a calming corner, encourage reading and emotional open communication as well many other ways of teaching emotional and academic intelligence. They teach in Spanish from day one and introduce Mandarin from 3rd grade, they also teach following the international Baccalaureate which is amazing. It teaches the children self confidence through weekly presentations and teaches them autonomy. Honestly this school is amazing and now it goes until 12th grade we are obsessed and so you will be too. But, sshh don't tell anyone about our secret slice of heaven.

Hands down, my husband and I feel it is best decision we have made for his education. Although it can be a bit pricey, we have felt that it has been worth every dollar. He is growing up to be a well spoken, well thought, caring little human. I love that he is bilingual, but I really love his open minded views and his eagerness to learn. The teachers... the teachers have all been so amazing. They are loving, caring and really take each student's personalities and abilities into consideration as they grow from year to year. As I said, it's not the cheapest option and we do discuss yearly if we will be renewing his tuition-- and, with each year this answer comes easier and easier with an astounding "YES". We love the school, the community, the parents and look forward to many more years at Magellan!

The school prioritizes enrollment numbers over child safety and quality education. We experienced extreme instability, with at least 10 teacher turnovers in our classroom alone. Without lead teachers, the environment lacked structure, leading to incidents of teacher's yelling and writing up excessive incident reports. Major Safety & Management Red Flags: * Severe Negligence: My child was left outside alone and was banging on the door to come back in (documented with the state) and was left in a bathroom with an unauthorized adult without staff realizing she had left her group. * Unstructured Aftercare: Most incidents occurred during the 60-kid aftercare "nightmare," which lacks any meaningful supervision. * Financial Gatekeeping: The school often holds children back in YCC (Toddler) longer than necessary just to collect higher fees, regardless of whether the child has mastered the curriculum. * Exclusionary Practices: Extracurriculars like soccer are restricted by age (4+), effectively excluding half of the mixed-age Children's House (2.5-6) classrooms. * Retaliation: Be prepared for your child's hours to be cut to half-days as a way to slowly push you out. Communication is a "secret" here; I never received enough communication or updates on my child's progress. Enough was enough. If you raise any concerns, the director deflects blame onto the child. Please check the state's licensing website for their violation history. Your child deserves a safe, attentive environment--not just to be a number in a crowded room. Disabling Google reviews to limit transparency is a clear indicator of the issues present here.

"These two boys then drove over to the high school locker room that evening and did exactly that. They filled his cleats with peanuts and in his locker and in his uniform in the varsity locker room," Mannon said. She said when her son opened the locker to get his uniform, the peanuts started falling and he set everything down in shock and left. Her son then noticed hives on his arms. -KXAN Other Lake Travis parents close to the family said the incident was recorded. Because the students involved are minors, the district said it can't release what kind of discipline the two players are facing, but parents at Wednesday's meeting said it was a two-week suspension resulting in the players sitting out one game. -yahoo Carter, 15, and a few teammates from the suburban Austin school were discussing where the bus should stop for dinner. One of the players suggested Texas Roadhouse. But Carter piped up that he couldn't go to a place famous for peanuts because of his peanut allergy. The next day, October 6, the team showed up to dress for the game and get on the bus. One of the previous day's questioners began flicking something at Carter. He looked at the ground - it was peanuts! Carter recalled saying: "Dude, knock it off. Why would you do that?" Carter headed to the school's big indoor field, and saw one of the kids who had been teasing him. Mannon says this teen "had taken a video of the other boy putting the peanuts in my son's locker." He was showing it to other teammates, laughing about "this is what we did to Carter." (While some laughed, others said, "this is not OK. You could have killed him.") That's when Carter was certain of who was behind the peanut placing. It was later determined that the boy who took the can of peanuts to the locker had poured them over Carter's cleats. (Mannon says someone went back and dumped out the cleats - but peanut dust remained.) The coach gave Carter a new jersey and cleats so he could play. "But he still had hives on his arm when he got home," says Mannon. -Allergic Living
