Old style hotel. Actual, physical room key issued at check in. They have redone it on the inside and was quite pleasant to stay there.

Great River Road Inns - Living Room

Great River Road Inns

Think of staying at one of these two renovated homes as a Bed and Breakfast without the breakfast…read more This is a fabulous self-service style vacation rental. They offer two separate places. The Joseph Fugina House has a main floor that you can rent, complete with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs, there are three separate rooms that can be rented. They each have their own bathroom, with a shared kitchen upstairs and a shared living room downstairs. I would highly recommend looking that their website, as the photos really show how beautiful this space is. They also rent out the Prairie School House just down the street. That's a full house (no separate rooms for rent). The renovators and designers did an incredible job. Walking into the Joseph Fugina House is like stepping into a Pottery Barn or Pier 1 photo shoot. Great attention has been paid to details. Our room in the Joseph Fugina House had wonderful windows that let in a lot of light and overlooked the Mississippi River. There was also a small patio with two chairs where you could sit outside and enjoy the view. Each room has a Keurig coffee maker. The proprietors even restocked us with some Chai tea and decaff which my wife asked for! We loved our stay and would absolutely, without question, stay here again. The location is great. You can walk to town to enjoy the shops and restaurants. Guests can enjoy a 10 percent discount at The Golden Frog, a bar and grill located in downtown Fountain City. The only minor negatives would be: trains are passing by across the street about every 15 minutes, so if you're a light sleeper or can't stand that noise, you may want to go elsewhere. Also, the water was slow to get warm in the bathroom, and when it did, it didn't get real warm. We appreciated having access to a full kitchen - the ceramic dishes, real silverware, a fridge, etc. Again, the decorating was amazing. I hesitate to speak too glowingly about the place for fear that the next time we want to return, it will be booked.

We caved in on our camping site on a hot and humid day which was the last night of our trip and…read morefound this. It is beyond charming, with all modern amenities and just gorgeous. We rented the suite and had the first floor of the house with more space and cost sitting spots that we knew what to do with. Wonderful!

Little Bluff Inn - King Suite

What a gem of a hotel right in town! There's a great view of the river and several shops, bars and…read morerestaurants within walking distance. Everything in the room was so clean and tidy, it looks like there were recent updates perhaps? The king suite had plenty of space to lounge and spread out. Plenty of closet space and a large dresser for all your clothes. Lots of extra pillows and blankets as well. There are so many windows to let in a fresh breeze, and ceiling fans were a bonus. Outlets everywhere and alarm clocks have usb and charging outlets on them. Wifi is available and they will provide the password at check in. The kitchenette was small but functional with a mini fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker(kcup style) and a small sink. The bathroom has a full size vanity and cabinets of clean towels and extras. There's a separate fish cleaning room on site which was a huge bonus. Some cutlery, storage bags, cutting boards and a sink for washing up. There's also a small chest freezer that can be used to store the cleaned fish if needed. I saw some gathering spaces outside- a fire pit with chairs around it and a patio with a grill, cooler and plenty of seating. Many rooms also has glider rocking chairs outside the door and I really enjoyed using those! My only complaint would be that there's no coat rack. Not entirely necessary but it rained all weekend and we ran out of chairs to hang all our gear for drying. Edit to add that we met one of the owners this morning, Julie, and she's as kind as can be! Had a nice long talk about the Inn and future plans. Also our room did not have a true kitchenette, I was mistaken. those rooms had already been booked. However the space we had was useful and far better than most hotels offer. Hopefully we can book one of the kitchenette rooms next spring!

You're often limited in lodging options when visiting a small town, but in this case our lodging options were everything we could have wanted and more. The Cobblestone business model apparently is to provide big hotel chain quality in towns that the big chains pass by. The property looked new and was well maintained. It is not a large hotel. They have about 30 rooms over 2 floors. There is not an elevator, which was not a big deal for us. The lobby was clean and inviting. There was a small lounge area with chairs, a fireplace, a television, and plenty of information about the town and surrounding area. The lobby served several purposes: breakfast nook, bar (yes - they have a bar that serves beer and wine), and more. The room was spacious and clean. It had all the amenities one would need: coffee maker, microwave, fridge, hair dryer, and so on. The beds were very comfy. We really did not have any complaints about the room or the night sleep we had. Hotel was quiet and relaxed. Breakfast in the morning was a standard hotel breakfast: eggs, sausage, cold cereal, waffle maker, and so on. This is always convenient and appreciated. There is enough variety that there is something pretty much for everyone. There is also coffee available in the lobby throughout the day. I highly recommend this location and I recommend this chain. We will be on the lookout for Cobblestone going forward as they have earned our repeat business. On a side note - my son forgot his beloved blanket in the breakfast area the morning we left. We did not realize this until we were far enough away that turning around and going back for it was not longer a viable option. I called the front desk and they told me they had found it. I worked with them to put together a plan to get it back to my son. To make a long story short, the Cobblestone staff was very helpful. They kept the blanket safe and sound and then worked with me to make sure it was sent back to our house. They were so helpful (especially one really awesome person at the front desk who really went above and beyond to make this happen)!!

Great place to stay. It's clean, quiet and staff is great…read more Our bed was firmer than I like. But definitely plan on staying there again.
