About six months ago I made the switch over to Crossfit Boston Iron and Grit and it has been…read moreeverything I was looking for in a Crossfit gym and more. Here are the reasons why: The Coaches: There are four main coaches- Owner Tina, Brian, Miguel, and Mel- and they are all top-notch. They are a dedicated, knowledgeable, and dedicated to their craft. No matter whether a class has 2 or 15 people in it, they make sure each member is getting the coaching he/she needs to participate safely, get a great workout in, push themselves, and get a great workout in. Each coach also brings his/her own style and expertise, so if you get a chance to work with all of them you get a great all-around experience. The Community: There is a great mix of people here- old and young, from elite athletes to day-one beginners. The common thread is everyone welcomes and encourages everyone else no matter what level they are at. Coming from another Crossfit gym, it would have been easy to feel like an outsider for a while. Not here. People were friendly, encouraging and immediately treated me like I was part of their gym. From the start I have made friends and look forward to talking to them before and after class as much as the actual workout! Countless Intangibles: In the short time I have been there they have renovated, added to their rig, and brought in multiple orders of equipment. This reinvestment in the gym shows- it is in GREAT shape. The gym is clean, equipment is organized, there are three clean showers (separate from the bathrooms) with towels and toiletries provided. There is always a community event to look forward to- from charity workouts/fundraisers to nutrition, weightlifting, or running challenges to pot-luck parties. There is a wide range of hours (including classes on Sunday) and I haven't seen anyone turned away from a class yet. Whether you are curious about trying Crossfit for the first time or maybe you are an experienced Crossfitter and are thinking about changing boxes, I am convinced Crossfit BIG is the right fit for everyone.

Before pregnancy I was encouraged, coached, pushed, and supported by the coaches. The coaches make classes feel like it's an individual experience even in a big group. They call people by their names and they are so knowledgable, and attentive, always keeping safety as a top priority. They encourage you to do what is best for you. When I got pregnant they came up with whatever workout worked for me, especially when I got bigger. Miguel and Brian, two of my favorite coaches, were ALWAYS checking on me. I loved how Miguel never treated me like the pregnant lady. He believed in my ability to finish workouts, in the meantime asking about my heart rate, correcting my positions and encouraging me. Because I used to go to the 5:30am class (before it got too popular), Miguel was the primary coach so I can't speak for ALL coaches, but I've had classes with them all and enjoyed all classes. Life is busy and I don't go as often as I'd like to, but I'm still enrolled because I love the classes and I enjoy working out there.

This made it super engaging and made me more excited to get in the gym with her! (2) She understood how to advance the exercises so each workout got progressively more challenging. (3) She listened to my feedback if an exercise wasn't challenging enough or was slightly uncomfortable, and was very quick to adapt the exercises. (4) Tia is incredibly reliable and communicative. She was essentially always on time on the dot and if either of us had to adjust the time or date of the workout, it was super easy to do so! I stood there for about 10 mins, he never even acknowledge my presence, just talking on the phone and smiling. Returned about 1.5 hours later. The same guy was flirting with a lady, never acknowledged my presence. After a few minutes, Daniel, assistant mgr appeared. I started by mentioning that the previous mgr offered to waive enrollment fee for me. Daniel said it was impossible for him to do. I offered to pay in full for a whole year - no help. But Daniel never mentioned that Crunch website was offering enrollment special for a reduced enrollment fee of 26 cents. I've decided to to pay in full anyway, for convenience. Daniel wrote a contract where numbers make absolutely no sense, he never offered to show me the contract ( I trusted him because I had such a good memories of talking with Patrick, the previous manager) The total is $189. Almost $50 more than the website offer. The next day I wrote about the problem to the manager@crunchRoslindale.com. Five days and no reply. I was out of state for 5 days. Today, 1.4.2026, I went in person to try resolve the problem. Daniel refused any help. I am surprised that $50 is more important than a happy, retuning customer. Jay Halicki

She is a great instructor, always tweaking the formats to improve our workouts and eliciting feedback from members to ensure we are getting the most out of each class. She knows everyone by name and it truly feels like a community. I have taken both the boxing HIIT class and strength and conditioning class. Boxing HIIT encompasses circuits including boxing combos on the bag, alternating with HIIT (eg burpees, jump squats, jumping jacks, etc), with rounds of dumbbell work and abs mixed in. It is truly a full body workout. I took my boyfriend to a class and he was absolutely drenched in sweat by the end. Strength and conditioning is more of a traditional circuit format with alternating exercises focused on strengthening your arms, legs, back, and core. They also have boxing technique classes, youth boxing, and kickboxing classes throughout the week, and now sparring on Sunday. They just introduced women's only kickboxing class on Saturday morning which I am super excited to try out! Overall such a great addition to the JP community and one of my fav local businesses.

I went through a difficult experience signing forms before I even got to the office to see him. I know that's a requirement of many health clinics, but his is clearly a 'new' business (open less than a year) and it shows in many ways. When I got there he then told me his staff let him know that my healthcare provider wasn't accepted by his practice...when I called my Tufts Managed Care provider they said he was. He mentioned something about Medicare only pays him $29/visit. He would much rather people just pay him in cash. I don't even know if that's legal for him to refuse me service for that reason. I provided him with screenshots from the Tufts website proving that he was in fact on my plan and he still balked - then said he would have to check with his staff again to make sure. How insulting and unprofessional. He never even had the courtesy to get back to me. Anyway, though he's a little full of himself, he seems to know what he's doing. The office is clean and pleasant with a room for exercises and one with the chiropractic table for sessions. I had a friend who saw him and was pretty pleased. But he was able to pay upfront.
