We unplugged everything, checked the breaker, nothing seemed to work even after we reset the breaker. We started to email electricians that night. One responded that they would call in the morning, which they did not. The other never responded. This morning I sent messages to three electricians. The first, which is this one, requested for me to call. When I spoke with Scott, he said that he would try to do a walk-through troubleshoot with me over the phone, to see what the issue is and if I could fix it myself to save some money since it may be an easy fix. As I explained everything to him, he realized that the situation may need his expertise and stated that he would have to come over to find what the problem could be. He also stated that he would not charge me to troubleshoot and give me an estimate. He came within the hour, checked the breaker and checked an outlet in the bathroom which was a GFCI outlet. He immediately stated that he believed it was the outlet that caused the issue, and proceeded to address it. I didn't care for an estimate, I just wanted it to work again so I never asked for the price and he never gave it. Although he had to step out to go to Lowe's to get another outlet, he got the job done within an hour. He also separated the outlet wires so that if that if that one went bad in the future it wouldn't affect the other two bedrooms. He was a pleasure to speak with, super friendly, and professional. He came with his mask on and was ready to work. I am not sure how much a job like this would cost but he charged us less than $200. Now that we have a home of our own, we were looking to add home repair professionals to our Rolodex in case we needed work done on our house. He has now been added to that Rolodex. Thanks Scott!

I decided to call Clarkstown Heating & Air Conditioning based on two things: Seeing their trucks driving around Rockland County all the time, and positive online reviews stressing their professionalism, promptness, and honesty. It was a pleasure scheduling, from the polite office staff, to the confirmation call that my tech was on the way, to the actual appointment with my technician Randolph. Randolph, an energetic and polite young man, greeted me with a firm handshake, and friendly smile. He confirmed the job scope, and price, and got to work and diagnosed the problem, and immediately solved it! He also gave me a tutorial, based on the questions I was asking, on how to use my existing system more efficiently, how best to set each thermometer, and when and how to change air filters if / when I wanted to do it myself. I'm satisfied with my service, and hope my 2nd appointment later this week (for a separate issue) goes as well. I was charged $109.00 + tax for the AC Diagnostic Check.

My AC capacitor went out on a hot Friday, and I contacted them looking for a prompt repair. While the technician who arrived was professional, the billing was completely predatory. They charged me $685 plus tax to replace a single dual capacitor. This is a basic 30-minute job, and the high-end universal part they used costs under $100 retail. The standard market rate for this repair in Rockland County tops out around $350 to $450. Charging nearly $700 for a simple part swap is an extreme, unconscionable markup. There are plenty of honest, local HVAC professionals in our area who charge fair market rates. I will never use this company again, and I strongly advise other Rockland County homeowners to look elsewhere unless you want to be severely overcharged.

I met with Grossman to swap out a toilet & the water controls in a shower (non-emergency service call). Matt came to my house to provide an estimate. We scheduled a time for him to return a few days later (11/2020). They came and they did a good job. There were no economic surprises. They cleaned up their mess and everything works fine. I've attached a picture of his neat workmanship of the shower cartridge (hidden behind the wall). IMO, he did a good job & I will be using Grossman again.

Because it was late in the night and the nature of the work, they had promised us they would come first thing in the morning. Fast forward to the following morning day: they came exactly at the time they'd promised and got the job done at the time they'd estimated. They also walked me through what work needed to be done (i.e. upgrading the existing exhaust to the chimney as ours is not up to code, replacing x valve, etc...), which was nice and assuring. I had an extremely pleasurable experience using this vendor and will definitely contact them again for future work!

Returns calls, and texts as soon as possible, and is very honest. He explains things to you, and has allowed us to watch him work in case we needed to do a quick fix. Tech comes, hangs out a while, says I need a new flue sensor AND a barnd new external condensate pump (with tubing) Repairs 1600 dollars. After I picked my jaw up from the floor, I asked the owner if my estimate could delineate parts vs labor. He then proceeds to double talk me about "there is alot more involved than parts and labor" umm wat? He continues on that he has to buy gas, pay for insurance, 401k, workmans comp, a warehouse. Basically giving me the "no man in the house hustle". I call a competitor, independent diagnosis of flue sensor, gets part (that was like 100 bucks) and I have hot water again. Concerned about the condensate pump Smith said I needed, I asked the honest repair man and he laughed because IT WASN'T EVEN A PART OF MY SYSTEM anymore and had been bypassed. So instead of 1600 dollars, I paid 500 dollars. I know that at the end of the day Smith would have restored my hot water, but he was absolutely taking advantage of me. As a single parent, every dollar counts and 1100 dollars is a big deal for us. He was absolutely ready to take food off my table. So in closing, the five star rating is probably because most people dont know their ass from their elbow and blindly trust that a company isnt out to soak you. This is your fair warning.
