Here's a little backstory, my wife and I have 7 boys between us. I have 3 of my own 18, 17, and 15. My wife has 4 from a previous marriage 21, 17, 12, and 10. I was awarded my 3 by a judge in Jefferson County a few years ago. After my wife and I got married, her parents took her to court to get custody of her youngest two children on the grounds that I was abusive. Mr. Philips was appointed Guardian ad Litem by the judge. According to Mr. Philips, the children told him that I was abusive. Long story short custody was awarded to my in-laws based on Mr. Philips' testimony. Personally I do not believe that either of the children told him that I was abusive and if they did they were coached. Instead of digging into those claims Mr. Philips took it at face value. I do not know what kind of attorney Mr. Phillips is but he is a TERRIBLE GAL and does not have the children's best interests at heart. Use caution! read more

During…read morethat time, I have practiced in Gadsden and Etowah County, as well as the surrounding counties of Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, DeKalb, Marshall, and St. Clair. For a brief period of time I had a law firm located in Baldwin County as well. Upon becoming an attorney in Alabama, I worked mostly on personal injury cases. This included things such as medical malpractice, products liability, motor vehicle wrecks, premises liability, workman's compensation, and negligence. In recent years, our aging population throughout Alabama has focused my attention on family & estate law, including divorces, child custody, visitation and support, adoptions, formations of estates and estate planning, wills and trusts, immigration, and criminal cases, although it hasn't narrowed by attention to each facet of the law, nor does it mean I only work in those areas of law.

I grew tired of his demeanor in court of not fighting for me and just excepting whatever. After 6 months of that I called Sam Bone and let me tell you, he is it! He done more in the first 24 hours than my other lawyer did in 5 months. We got the divorce settled within a week of hiring him. If you would hire a lawyer again I think that's a good lawyer, and I would hire him every change I got. Im telling you... One of TThe Best!

In the meantime, he attempted to bully us into using his services to close on their house, which we could not do since the buyer makes that choice. Somehow, Copeland knew the date the check for house sale would be ready before we did and called that very day. His had upped the balance by $200. When my sister-in-law went to pay him, Copeland snatched the check out of her hand and wrote in the amount himself. I called him and asked what amount he paid himself and he said an amount $300 more than the original amount. I asked why and he rattled off things he did in preparation to sell my parent's home. I told him we didn't ask for that and asked if we were paying for something we didn't ask for or receive, at which point he pivoted to another topic and then threw out some sleazy lawyer speak to try to distract, which didn't work. We could have stopped payment, but my brother and I decided to let him keep the extra money. My brother suggested maybe Copeland would do the right thing and refund the $300 he stole, but I am a retired LEO and know that's not going to happen. Choose an honest lawyer like Jay Stover.
