In the meantime, he attempted to bully us into using his services to close on their house, which we could not do since the buyer makes that choice. Somehow, Copeland knew the date the check for house sale would be ready before we did and called that very day. His had upped the balance by $200. When my sister-in-law went to pay him, Copeland snatched the check out of her hand and wrote in the amount himself. I called him and asked what amount he paid himself and he said an amount $300 more than the original amount. I asked why and he rattled off things he did in preparation to sell my parent's home. I told him we didn't ask for that and asked if we were paying for something we didn't ask for or receive, at which point he pivoted to another topic and then threw out some sleazy lawyer speak to try to distract, which didn't work. We could have stopped payment, but my brother and I decided to let him keep the extra money. My brother suggested maybe Copeland would do the right thing and refund the $300 he stole, but I am a retired LEO and know that's not going to happen. Choose an honest lawyer like Jay Stover.

He's always in court, on vacation, out of state, any excuse so they don't have to give you any information on your case. Filed a motion to get custody of our grandkids. We got temp custody & had a hearing set to plead our case. Lawyer never spoke to us kept putting us off until the day before our hearing. Told us they filed a motion to move the hearing to the next month. After it was moved Lawyer talked to us finally. Said not to worry. "That's what we paid him a lot of money for. To take care of these things. " We felt better after talking to him even though he should've already had all the evidence ready for the case. Then they come take the kids from us. Lawyer didn't bother letting us know anything. We called & all they said was we don't know. Come to find out. We only had X amount of days to prove to the court that we need emergency custody of our grandkids until a court date could be appointed. That's what the appeals paperwork said. I told our lawyer " So the reason we lost the kids was because you wasn't prepared for court & moved the court date? If you had done your job this wouldn't had happened? " They said " no it was the judges fault." If the judge gave a hearing date, & our lawyer wasn't prepared because he wouldn't talk to us. Then our lawyer asked for the hearing to be moved so they could prepare. How is the judges fault?? Paid him a lump sum up front. He said "That's what he preferred so he doesn't have to bill us for anything else. He would take care of everything." That was the first lie because when it FINALLY came time to file subpoenas. They said we owed for them. I said , lawyer told me I paid a lump sum, & that covered everything. Luckily our son went to rehab & is doing better. We decided to drop the case, since DHR had a close eye on him & he started making an effort to stay dry. Lawyer told us he was "refunding 75% in good faith that if something happened again. We would come back." Never got the refund. So after a month we called & ask. Again with excuse after excuse after excuse. Finally lawyer tells us. We agreed to leave the remaining balance with them as a credit. REALLY? Talk about a sorry low life POS!! He took me for almost 8k. If you're looking for a lawyer that will: Lie to you. Never respond to any questions or consent you have. Give you the run around. Charge you an unreasonable amount to do nothing. Then Christopher P. Word is your man Oh almost forgot. Claims to be a Christian. SMH! That just sad!
