When I returned on March 13 for a scheduled appointment expecting care, I was told in person by the doctor that my treatment would not continue. The doctor, when informing me that care would not continue despite our prior conversation on March 5 about a plan to continue treatment, asked whether I wanted referrals or information on other providers. This was a general question asked at that time and was not accompanied by any specific referral information or advance transition planning prior to the visit. The termination letter was issued weeks after these events and states that the decision followed prior interactions and references efforts to "de-escalate." On March 5, however, I left the appointment after the doctor acknowledged that the situation may not have been handled well and discussed a plan for continuing care. When I returned expecting that care on March 13, I was instead informed that treatment had been discontinued without prior notice. Based on this experience, the practice's handling of this situation raises serious concerns about its integrity, professionalism, and basic respect for patients.

When I first went to The Spine Center, I was in incredible pain and sometimes leaned to the side because I couldn't straighten my spine completely. Dr. Carlson diagnosed me with sciatica and put me on a treatment plan including office visits and a home exercise plan that led to me being in little to no pain and being able to walk with completely normal posture. I never felt the need to see an orthopedic surgeon or take prescription pain meds; I wanted to avoid such things, and I was able to do so thanks to the excellent treatment I received at The Spine Center. Almost two years later, I rarely suffer any symptoms, and when I do, the pain is 1 or 2 on a 1-10 scale. I follow Dr. Carlson's recommendations and continue w/ my home exercises, and everything is going well. I highly recommend Dr. Carlson; he definitely exceeded my expectations.

My treatment felt personalized to my specific needs, and I could tell it was making a real difference. Unfortunately, my experience with billing was very disappointing. When I started treatment, I was told my first two visits would require a $70 copay, my third visit would be about $35 because I would have reached my deductible, and after that my visits would be covered at 100%. Instead, I was charged $70 for my third visit. When I questioned the charge, I was told the original information was incorrect and that I would owe $70 per visit until I reached my $6,000 deductible. While I highly recommend the physical therapy staff, the front desk needs to provide accurate insurance and billing information so patients understand the true cost of treatment before beginning care.
