I have used Dr. Green for 2 years with a 1 year break in between. They have successfully helped clear my yard of weeds and helped green up my lawn. Be aware! I had their service for one year and never extended their service for another year. Despite that, they showed up without my request and performed a weed service, and left an invoice at the door. We called them and explained that we never ordered their service for another year and will not be paying for the invoice as their service was done without our request. Instead of canceling the unreasonably issued invoice, they sent it to the collection agency and screwed up my credit score. I called them and expressed my frustration about their unlawful activity and they said if I didn't want the service that I should just call them to let them know that I didn't need it. Seriously? I only found out that they came onto my property without permission after the fact when I saw the invoice they tucked away at the front door. DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THEM! They will continue charging you for their services either you want or not and if you don't pay you will deal with the collection department that will charge you 3 times more because of the interest! read more

I'm rating this a one star because I can't go any lower. The best way to describe this service is a SCAM. I bought a service 10+ YEARS ago for a seasonal service, it's now 2020 and I got alerted from my bank about the collection agency instead of getting alerted from Dr.Green themselves. I called in multiple time through the years asking to cancel the service and still got billed years later. After calling Dr.Green there service was completely unprofessional. First I got redirected multiple times to different phone numbers finally I found out they didn't even have the correct phone number in my account. They had been calling a completely random number and continuously billing me after explaining this situation multiple times to me they kept telling me there was nothing they could do even thought it was their mistake. ZERO stars! We came home from a long trip in June 2017 to find ALL my perennials on the side of the house had HERBICIDE applied on them! The flowerbed runs the entire length of the garage and house to the back. Yes, there were a few weeds from the weeks we were away, but that's where all my bearded irises, sea hollies, hostas, icelandic poppies, lamium, ajuga, globe flowers, Solomon's seal, Jacob's Ladder, cowslips, anemone silvestris, and other beloved perennials live! IDIOT employee has since been fired. The owner came by in late August to see the damage, promised to replace the plants, asked for a list of what grew there, which was duly submitted. AND THEN WE NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN! So this Spring (2018), they called to ask about the final payment, we refused to pay pending resolution of this matter. EVen after repeatedly contacting them, leaving messages on the owner's cell phone, calling the company, nothing. STAY AWAY from DR GREEN! It's Dr Brown Thumbs and Dr I-Couldn't-CARE-LESS-after-I-KILLED-ALL-Your-Perennials! There are many more reputable companies out there. We are going to lodge a complaint with the BBB, but fat lot of good that will do. Maybe we will take them to small claims court too. My fiance was pretty happy when Dr. Green first showed up at our door. We had a lawn with large burn spots as a result of our dogs from the previous summer. Well, it was a complete waste of money. 1. They tell you their products are "pet safe" yet give you no literature to back it up. 2. Only twice of the so called 5+ visits was there evidence of ANYTHING being done other than the door hanger. That was the aeration and fertilizer. 3. They said they raked & seeded, so we had to refrain from mowing the lawn for 3 weeks, and water every day. My fiance was out there every day watering. However, from day one we didnt see a single seed down on the ground, and of course nothing changed. 4. We were supposed to get notice of their work but we never did so we could pick up the dog stuff. 5. Write a complaint letter and NOBODY will respond. 6. I still had dandelions all summer and did not see any change This is an example of a fraudulent and low standards company is. They don't care one bit as long as they have your credit card number. Dr. Green is one company everyone should stay as far away from as possible. Here are a few reasons why They showed up to power rake but told me my grass was too long. I told them as soon as I mow the lawn I will call them. Well they showed up a week later, even I hadn't mowed the lawn yet, and power raked anyway. They left clumps of raked grass all over the yard. I sent them an email requesting the power raking be removed from my bill and to cease any further treatments. They completed two more treatments after they were told to cease and the power raking still has not been credited. I am refusing to pay for the power raking or any treatments after they were told to cease. They continued to phone asking for money but refuse to send an itemized invoice. By the way they have up to ten different phone numbers they call from. Buyer BEWARE. First the service as a whole is extremely questionable if they actually do anything. I signed up to the seasonal program for them to treat the lawn. My lawn never was worse and my neighbours who don't even care about there lawn had better grass than I did. I'm willing to accept that there are no guarantees for a flush lawn based on having someone come once a week to spray and treat it. What the problem is the fact when the service is done they keep billing you and taking money off your credit card. I had to fight with them just to get a refund for work that I did not agree to. That type of ethics is beyond me and I hope this helps those that are considering to maybe look into these guys more. Beware!! We were approached by a Dr. Green rep last fall and declined their offer for lawncare fertilizer service. In May we received an invoice for three applications of fertilizer which we had previously declined. My wife called the toll-free number and was assured the it was a mistake - problems communicating with franchisees - and would be taken care of. Today we received a call from someone claiming to be from a collection agency - no company name was given - and when we tried to return the call using the number on our call display, the number was out of service. In April of 2011, I was contacted by their sale team via the phone and they offered a good deal and my lawn need much attention. We signed up hoping for an improved lawn. The package we got was core aeration, weed control, soil test, soil conditioner, and lawn fertilization. We were told we would receive a minimum of 5 visits from spring to fall. June came around and they still did not show up but we received a bill. We contacted them and they informed us that they have shown up twice. Once for weed control, soil test, soil conditioner, and lawn fertilization. The second visit they performed core aeration. I informed them that this is not possible and ask where they perform the work. They performed it at our old house we moved from 3 years prior. The strange part is that at our old house we never used their service. They now expected us to pay for a second package to perform services at our current address. We promptly declined and proceed to get pass from "supervisor" to "supervisor" till they finally agreed it was their mistake. They showed up the next day at 6 pm and proceeded to perform two visits work, weed control, soil test, soil conditioner, lawn fertilization, and core aeration. The problem is this "work" was performed within 15 minuets. The core aeration only cored 1-2 mm of grass with a little soil because they perform this task so quickly. You could tell we were just shoved on the end of their day and quickly completed the job so they could get home. Once again late July come around and no Dr. Green. Once again we called and found out once again they went to the wrong address. They fit us in again at the end of the day and very quickly perform "work". Early August I called again and complained that their weed control have done very little and would like a follow up visit to get this under control. They informed me they would be back next week to follow up. Guess what they did not show and I called to find out they went to my old house again. September came around and time for the last visit and I had to called them again to inform them that you went to the wrong house again. They fit me in and did "work" quickly. The next year I perform the work they suggest on my own since I had more time. Boy did my lawn turn around and has looked great since. Since having their service we have been getting harassed from their phone sale team. We have received well over 60 phone calls during the last 2 years. Every call has ended with please remove us from your phone list. They can't perform this. Some time I ask what address do you have one file and they still recall my old house address. It has now gotten to the point that I'm posting review and have filled 5 complaints to the CRTC about their phone calls. I don't understand how this company is still in business. read more

These guys did a really great job on my lawn, not only are they the cheapest in the market but unlike those decks at green drop they didn't kill my lawn they made it better which is what you expect. They are pretty bad. Lawn treatment that was supposed to control weeds didn't do anything to the weeds which made me wonder if they did anything at all. Aeration was also poorly done. I can clearly see them only do one pass going to the end of lawn and back. It is unacceptable given the how wide our yard is. These guys do not take pride in what they are doing. Here's a copy of the letter I just sent to this pack of thieves: I signed a contract with your company after purchasing my home in Arbour Lake in May, 2012. Our lawn looked worse by the end of the season than at the beginning; nevertheless, I paid all invoices. In early 2013, you contacted me with an offer to lower costs by pre-paying the 2013 contract. At that point I contacted your office by email to indicate I would not be renewing the contract. The email bounced back as "No Reply" and I phoned the office to report the contract termination with your telephone agent. She took the message and indicated she would take care of my request. Some time later I received a message from Dr Green stating that you would be by to apply fertilizer. I phoned the office immediately to remind your staff that I had terminated services and had renewed the contract with Nutrilawn, my former provider. She had no record of my previous cancellation request, but said she would take care of my request immediately. Nutrilawn applied fertilizer - as agreed - and left a small sign in the yard indicating that the lawn had been treated. Within an hour, Dr Green arrived and began applying fertilizer! Fortunately, someone was at home and got the process stopped before the entire lawn was treated. We called Dr Green immediately - concerned that our lawn would be killed by the double dose. Your company was instructed to cease and desist. Apparently this time the message registered as there were no further services provided. Nevertheless, the invoices began to arrive for the unauthorized fertilizer application. In spite of my repeated phone calls reminding you that we cancelled service - email appears not to be accepted - the invoices, email, and phone calls continue to harass us with requests for payment and threats to impact our credit rating. At one point you offered to "settle" for half payment. It is not the amount that is an issue, it's the principle. We do NOT owe you money for services that we did not request, that we specifically cancelled, and which likely stressed our lawn. I expect you to acknowledge receipt of this message and to assure us that you have adjusted our account to show no amounts outstanding. Your prompt attention to this request is appreciated. read more

We initially signed up one year contract only which was switched to auto-renewal and this is two years back. Last year we specially asked them not to service our property... they came on their own and serviced and sent a bill. When my mom called and advised them to not come the following year instead of cancelling the contract they just put a note. In the spring of 2012 we had a knock on our door, a "salesman" selling the services of Dr. Green. It was my husband's decision to use their services. We should have known better after the salesman said someone would call with a certain time frame and the company never did, we had to track them down and FINALLY getting a response, arrangements were made to start. We understood that it was up to US to cancel after the first year of service and WE did phone and cancel the services. When we canceled we told them we were only using the services for one year. The frustrating part is the repeating, sales phone calls. Time and time again we told them we are NOT interested in their services, DO NOT CALL AGAIN. Do not trust this company!! My Dad signed up to help improve his lawn and rid the weeds. With the very few times they came there was no improvement on the lawn. They were soon asking if he wanted to sign up for the following year and he told them no. Even though he didn't give them his consent they still came and harassed him to pay. Therefore, they told him to pay one payment and they would write off the other payment he had. He ended up paying and even to this day they are still harassing him. They have even gone far enough to ask if he still wants their services next year. I am warning everyone to stay away from them. ( Our back yard facing to other neighbours back yards and we were the one using yard company but it was worst!) I called, but no point. And once, they came and asked me how to get in our yard ( we have 2 gates and when I signed up, I told which gate to use. one is locked one is NOT locked) so I told them. 2 min later, they were gone. We used them a few years ago and were not very impressed with the service. They routinely missed large spots in the lawn when fertilizing and didn't even bother to aerate the backyard. Since then they keep calling, despite repeated requests to not contact us. We've had at least five calls in the past few months, despite being well outside the 18-month CRTC limit on "existing business relations". We'll be submitting a CRTC complaint. read more

I feel like for the most part I'm more than a reasonable person. I've been patient and I've been polite. DR. Green deserves 0 stars on all levels from quality of work to ethics, to business management. 4 years ago I had one of there sales persons knock on my door with a special for there seasonal special of aration and weed control. Having never had any other company do this and since I don't spend every waking hour on my lawn I figured why not. The results were that my lawn looked worse than ever before. My one neighbour also signed up and it was clear the same results for them. It also became the running joke on the street that the 2 individuals who paid Dr. Green had not only been ripped off there lawns were in worse condition. Well lesson learned and I was taking the position that season was almost done and just would never use them again. October came and they sent me an email letting me know the pre winter lawn maintenance was going to happen tomorrow....... I called and explained that I was no longer interested in using them and explained why and again thought it was the end of it. They still showed up, and my credit card was billed for $125.00. I was than starting to become a little frustrated. I called again and inquired why they nor only came but charged me money. A new person on the phone explains that I needed to have my cancellation in writing for that to have happened. I still feel I'm being reasonable at this point even though I never signed up for the Winter package. I send the email of asking them to cancel any and all programs and ask them to remove me from the list. Couple of weeks later I get another email stating that they were coming to the house to fertilize. At this point I'm losing my mind. Call asked to speak to the person who makes all the decisions. I speak to a Women explain my frustration and than decide I'm actually done with the whole run around demand my money back on the whole winter package as they have no evidence of me ever asking for it and had no right to just opped me in on there program. She reimbursed me half the money as in her words I already had used part of the program. Rather than argue over $75 I agree that if they remove me from all contact list we had a deal. Well every year since, so this being the 4th I get the phone call of asking me if I would be interested in there seasonal promotion. Every year I curse and swear and lay into the poor individual on the phone on how I hate them and want them dead, and ask to be removed from there contact list. So far it sounds like this is a high sales pressure company with horrible customer service, horrible quality of work, and unethical. This is also the first time I have given any company a scathing review. Suck it Dr Green, at this point I'm seriously considering taking legal action as I feel it's a slam dunk win because they would ignore any court order and keep calling me. I terminated the contract because we were moving and they continued to come back the following year with new owners. They tried to bill me and I refused to pay. They are supposed to call before they come and we had a new phone number which would have prevented them from doing this - I would say its trespassing. The service from Dr Green is poor, I watched them spend approx 2 minutes 'fertilizing' my lawn and succeeded only in burning one large patch and barely touching the rest, but the real issue with this outfit is the endless push to extract more cash. Every service notice contained recommendations for extra services and the cold calls started as soon as I had made the mistake of signing the contract. I cancelled during the first year, but they still came the next season and sent bills for the unrequested work (a common experience from the other reviews). Now, another year later, I still get calls every week or two trying to sell more services to me. Each time I ask them to remove me from the call list, but I have little hope they ever will. Dr Green has been treating our lawn for 4 seasons. Our lawn is extremely healthy and the envy of our neighbors. I receive an email a few days before they arrive so it can be cut. If an application doesn't work they come back and reapply for no charge. The staff is very helpful and nice. We are extremely satisfied and refer our friends and family to Dr Green. read more

I have been using Dr. Green for 4 yrs. My lawn last summer had zero weeds and was thick and green. I receive an e-mail one to two days before a visit and so I check to make sure everything was done according to the contract. Several yrs prior I had one applicator who just sat in his truck and did nothing. I called them and everything was rectified with no arguments. If I'm not 100% happy with an application, they reschedule, but I've only had to do this once. read more

We were not intending to use Dr. Green services this year because we were not impressed with the quality of their work last year. Low and behold, we come home one day in April to find a Dr. Green sign on our lawn. I'm not even sure what they did to our lawn, and no one had called ahead to inform that they were coming. I'm pretty sure they purposely came for that first treatment when no one was home so that we could not send them away. Quite frankly, given the quality of service we experienced last year, someone probably showed up, stuck the sign in our lawn, left, then invoiced us $50 for the service. Luckily our credit card number had changed so they were not able to automatically bill us. However, Dr. Green has proceeded to harass us with invoices, late fees, phone calls and now a threat to sick a collection agency on us (to make us pay for a service we never wanted in the first place). I called them to say I was not planning to pay the bill and they threatened to play a recorded conversation from the prior year and to continue pursuing us for payment. Wow such great customer service - Dr. Green operates their business in a completely underhanded fashion (and if you ask me, it borders on fraudulent) and then threatens their former customers to pay up. read more

Dr. Green first approached me to do fertilization and spring maintenance on our lawn in Chestermere last year. I agreed to have the spring work done and said i may be interested in more of their services. They did the spring work and came back in the summer, without my consent, fertilized and seeded browned areas (we have three standard poodles). They then sent me a bill. I called them and asked what was going on and they played a voice recording stating that me saying I might want more services was an order for more. I gave up arguing with them and paid he bill. This year, in the spring, I had a few days off and guess who showed up without my asking or permission! I had to chase their technicians off my property. Then I called the office and they tried to tell me that by accepting last year that meant they could do the work this year. I freaked. They have not called back read more

Okay, after reading the reviews, I'm not sure what's going on... We live in NE Calgary and haven't had bad service from Dr. Green in the past two years, since signing up with them in spring 2012. Given the date-grouping of all of the reviews (only September and October 2013), I wonder if maybe a competitor might not be intentionally posting bad things. Our lawns were in lousy shape (new neighbourhood, depleted soil, turf laid in the peak of summer while we were away and it didn't get watered, lots of weeds). By mid-summer, most of the weeds were gone and the brown areas were growing again. This spring, our lawn was lush and green with only a few weeds around the sidewalk and a couple of thistles in the backyard. Dr. Green's maintenance people were only noticeably late on one appointment and that was during the heavy rains in June. Aside from a few attempts to up-sell additional services, we haven't had any problems with Dr. Green. I've had just as many calls from carpet and furnace cleaners trying to sell me stuff, and twice as many from the supposed natural gas companies coming to my door. Unfortunately, we do have to cancel due to the cost. Provided they are doing the work, the price seems fair, and my lawn looks great. If they give us a hassle about cancelling or continue to bill after the fact, I'll be back to post another review. :-) Until then, I give them 4 stars. On June 3, 2014 I ordered their top tier package which included multiple fertilizer treatments, seeding, etc. The package was worth about $260. On June 4, 2014 I had to call and cancel, I was assured I would get the full refund. It's is now August 6, 2014 and still no refund. I have called multiple times, spoke to 3 different people and it's always one excuse on another. I was given promises of call backs and emails which I haven't received. It's been over 2 months and still no refund and furthermore the people they have enlisted to help....don't seem to do that. For such a big company, they have been pathetic in dealing with my matter. Dr. Green has been helping us take care of our lawn for the last three years now. Our original intent was for them to help us out with the"pet spots" from our dog, but with the large variety of services offered by them, we soon found that they were helping us out in many different respects. They are quick, friendly, and I appreciate the steady communication in visit notifications and with promotions. If a weed pops up, they are there in a flash to take care of it. Only real down fall is that they always have some type of deal on that my wife wants to take advantage of! We probably get more than we need, but I'm happy with the basic service. read more

Haven't had dandelions or other weeds for years. My lawn has greatly improved compared to the green space next to me. We have been having HORRIBLE experience with Dr. Green since over a period time. They have been harassing us more than 2 yrs. now by emails, phone calls and mailing bills to us. Before going into the details of my personal experience, we have not had any contracts signed with them for doing my lawn work. They just showed up one day in our absence and left their sign up on my Lawn. We don't have any clue what they did or not. I called them right away to inform that we don't want any service from them. I have been replied to the emails few times when they have started sending statements - did not receive any respond of my emails instead received another email to pay. It's been going on still. . Receiving calls from 1-800 almost every 2 weeks. Told them we did not order your services - still receiving calls from different phone numbers. We are receiving mails from them every month. This is a awful experiences we never had with any vendors. Don't they get tired of exploiting customers this way? This company is doing business with squeezing every cent out of their customers by unethical business. They have tons of complains in Better Business Bureau - I don't know how they are still being permitted to do business with their horrible business practice!! I am sharing my own experience to caution people that there are plenty of other lawn care service that you can choose from, other than Dr. Green Services. Before going into the details of my personal experience, I am going to share with you some of the statistics on Dr. Green Services that I found via Better Business Bureau. - In last 12 months, 77 complaints were filed against Dr. Green Services. - In last 3 years, Dr. Green Services received 132 complaints via BBB, majority of which had to do with "Billing/Collection Issues" and "Problems with Product/Serivce". - The weighted average number of complaints filed against other lawn care service companies of all sizes is 0.386. Dr. Green Services is the ONLY lawn care service provider that has received more than 25 complaints in the last three years. To put it shortly, it is a serious matter of concern to general consumers that Dr. Green Services is still being permitted to do its obviously questionable business. Those numbers reported above likely do not even come close to reflect the true number of consumers who have been deceived and exploited by people running this business. It is a known fact that average consumers rarely voice their dissatisfaction with a service or product they receive; people usually just try to avoid the business that they were unhappy with rather than taking the time and effort to complain. Well, what was my experience like with Dr. Green? As bad as it could have gotten. It is one thing to have had to pay for services that produced nothing of value to me in the end. However, being deceived into another contract with a vendor that I was clearly unhappy with and being threatened to pay... it was a display of blatant exploitation of the relationship of trust between vendors and consumers, the likes of which I have never experienced before. Our lawn desperately needed seeding and fertilizing, but the services we received from Dr. Green Services were inconsistent and never on time. All the services we were supposed to get from the company were coordinated in a timely way that they should have worked as a whole - not independently - to improve the quality of my yard. However, the plan fell apart, with Dr. Green Services not sending their technicians until days or even weeks after the originally scheduled date. As such, we were not surprised to find our yard in the same poor condition that it was in before hiring Dr. Green Services. When one of its customer reps visited us in February to see if we were interested in continuing to receive service for the coming summer, my father told her that he wished to discontinue the contract with the company. The customer rep. asked why, and he gave her a brief rundown of the things he was not happy with the services we received; she reassured him by saying that she'd remove our account from its system right away. Three months later, I came home from work to find one of its invoices hanging on my front door. I called Dr. Green Services right away, reminding the customer rep of my conversation with another customer rep in February. The customer rep said she has no record of the conversation on her computer, but that she'd investigate it. A month later, Dr. Green Services sent another technician to my house, but, fortunately, my family member was there and forced him to leave. I called Dr. Green Services again, and its customer rep told me that she'd look into it - just like last time I called. In July, I came home and found another invoice from them by my front door; Dr. Green had yet again sent another technician, despite the numerous times I've told its customer reps to cancel our contract. It is obvious how Dr. Green Services earns its business. For the people who work there, it is not about providing value to customers and in turn making profits via mutually benefiting relationship - as it should be. Its business makes its earnings by exploiting customers who trust the vendors to do their work in exchange for the hard-earned money that they are spending for those services. People at Dr. Green Services are not concerned with establishing a permanent relationship with customers they have; they are concerned with squeezing every cent out of their customers before they leave. That works fine for them at a city like Calgary, where it is not abnormal for people to come and go all the time. They will always have new customers to deceive, while they use threats to force their existing customers to pay for the services that they explicitly refused to receive. A few weeks ago, for example, I received a letter from them, saying that they will transfer my outstanding balance to a credit collection agency, which has the power to affect my credit ratings. As implied in one of the statistics from Better Business Bureau, there are plenty of other lawn care services that you can choose from, other than Dr. Green Services. same worst services happened to me. I discontinued Dr. Green services in 2013 spring. This year they suddenly put a invoice at my door, charging me $50+ for one time service which I did not commit or sign anything for it. And normally after they spray the chemical on my lawn, I can smell it, but this time, nothing smell..i doubt they spray anything at all. And they didn't even ring my door bell to ask us to open the fence to the backyard for spraying. My wife called and finally get hold of them after a long wait on the phone, they insisted to charge us the $50+ and refused to take it off. And even gave a reason to say that once you are with Dr. Green, you cannot cancel without a reference number.......This is absolutely a scam and a total bully to Calgary consumer !! read more
