Had a lot of work accumulated after not seeing a dentist for 1.5 years and Dr. Schechter laid out a plan to fix up my teeth. I first had 2 quadrant scaling sessions and then got a great recommendation for oral surgeon. Afterwards, I had two painless (after extra shots) appointments of getting a new crown and getting a deep cavity filling. For the cavity filling, he took a before and after picture using the camera and it's pretty cool to see the inside of my mouth. All in all, my experiences with Dr. Schechter is as pleasant as it can be at a dentist. Lisa and the staff are all very nice and reaches out to confirm/remind before each appointment.

The staff particularly Nicole…read moreand Lauren was AMAZING and made me feel comfortable enough for me to make an appointment with severe dental phobia largely due to a dentist who worked on me in my teens. I made sure I discussed this specifically when I made the appointment and I also told the assistant as well. The assistant was so calming, so patient, taking extra care to make sure I wasn't in pain-her name was Lauren. She accidentally sprayed me in the eye with numbing formula due to the pain I was in with a particular upper molar but after my initial surprise we laughed and joked about it! This is where my good part of this review ends. Dr. Schechter came in after reviewing my new patient paperwork and seemed more interested in the name of my former dentist (who made my dental phobia 30 years ago severe) than he was in actually respecting my begging him to stop pushing and digging around a tooth that I was already in pain with because nothing was showing on the Xray taken. Clearly there was a large communication gap where neither of 2 members of his staff shared any information I took the time to give them (unless he chose to ignore it) and how important it was-I was very clear that I have severe dental phobia. They kept pushing a cleaning even after I told the front desk the one molar hurt too bad to touch that I could not chew on my left side since Christmas and that there would be no cleaning until after this tooth was taken care of! HOW ARE YOU CLEANING A PATIENT'S TEETH WHEN SHE IS IN OBVIOUS PAIN & DISCOMFORT????? How brilliant do you have to be to SEE a patient's anxiety is rising and when she suggests giving her gas bc that has worked in the past to calm her down, suddenly the doctor is more worried about malpractice, telling me "I didn't say I offered gas, I don't offer it because patients don't want to pay for it and because of malpractice insurance, and I know Nicole (front desk) didn't tell you I offered it". He couldn't tell anything from the full set of xrays so I will be going to someone else. He actually got annoyed with me and remarked "Wow, you don't want me to examine this at all" (which is when I actually asked to be given gas for my anxiety). Instead he tells me his "relaxing demeanor" is enough to calm his patients (!!!) WOW. This is NOT the place you want to go if you have dental phobia, oh and by the way, they don't offer the gas to calm you down if you do. I have no idea how there are glowing reviews about this guy. Worst experience with a new doctor, so disappointing because his staff is amazing, and the only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1, and that he referred me somewhere else. But disappointing and disheartening either way, and I am expecting to only have my insurance charged for X Rays since the assistant spent more time with me than the dentist did!

The practice is nicely designed with several different private rooms for the hygienists to do routine cleaning and exams plus the Dr works on patients in private rooms as well. I have been a patient of Dr Cogguillo's for some time and have found the Dr and his staff to be very efficient and caring when an issue with my teeth happens. The Dr is usually very gentle when examining and tending to a filling or other dental procedure. Ginny ( oral assistant) and Jean (front desk) have been working together at this practice and two former practices for years. I am sure that there are others working at this current practice who are long term employees as well. I first met Ginny and Jean when I started going to Dr Saunders after moving to the area. The fact that they are still working at this practice means that there is stability which is an important factor when talking medical care. This is a good independent dental practice.

The turning point was the latter part of 2009. I lost one tooth, wanted an implant. He and his hygienist talked me into a bridge. In good faith I trusted their judgement. After the bridge, the two next teeth became pushed over. The first front tooth crossed the other front tooth. Initially the bridge seemed good. It knew it was tight so I knew I was right when the teeth got pushed over. He did nothing about it, defended himself and said he had to fill the space. In may 2024 the first tooth fell out, my front tooth became straight again. On May 21st I went to his office, he took xrays, he knew I would now lose the front tooth, wanted to do a second bridge, with not adjustments to the failed bridge he made. I said absolutely not. He purportedly referred me to an implant dentist also in Milford and told me he would call when he heard from the other dentist. Two weeks after my visit I called to simply inquire if he heard from the dentist he said he sent my xrays to on May 21st, he and his receptionist were agitated that I called, and I got a response of I told you I you I would call you when I heard from him. Fortunately I found a wonderful periodontist through my family members.

I arrived for my appointment and the technician asked me if I had any other concerns which I did, he spoke with the dentist & she advised him to just take images of the teeth that I had concerns of. After the dentist met with me I went to make a follow up appointment regarding my sensitive tooth, I approached the receptionist desk where she was whispering to the receptionist. I was told by the receptionist that the dentist wanted Imaging of all of my teeth & she informed me that my insurance would not cover the x-rays and I would have to pay out-of-pocket reason being that the dentist requested only three images that were just taken by the technician. The dentist was well aware that I had not been to that office in one complete year, why wouldn't she advise the technician to take imaging of all of my teeth? When I asked to speak with the dentist all of a sudden she was busy. This is unethical on her part & quite honestly bad business, she was quite unlikable & made the impression that it was more about making money than giving great care, I will not be returning and I advise anyone to use caution when dealing with Shoreline Dental in Milford Connecticut! (Please take the time to check Shoreline Dental's reviews on Google as well there are quite a few with One star and people complaining about the Care that they received)!! Every single staff member I talked to yesterday was wonderful and genuinely cared that you walked through the doors and felt comfortable and welcomed. When Dr Jason came in to check on me he found not one, but two cavities - the first ever in my life! He has an opening pretty soon after so I stayed and he took care of them 15 minutes tops. I walked out the door with a smile and a great swag bag of Shoreline Dental merch. This place is the real deal from top to bottom.
