I've been servicing my Lexus at Downtown Toyota for some time. Although their prices are on the higher side, I continued going there because I wanted qualified technicians working on my vehicle and had generally been satisfied. Yesterday, I brought my car in for service and my total bill was $520. As soon as I got into the car after pickup, I noticed the tire pressure warning light was on. I didn't think much of it at first since this occasionally happens and I have a small inflator at home. However, when I got home -- which is literally one minute from the dealership -- and parked in my garage, I heard air rapidly leaking from a tire. I checked and found that one of the tires was completely flat. Given how close I live, this clearly happened immediately after leaving their service department. I tried calling right away but couldn't get through. The next day, after calling several times, I finally reached my service advisor, Lora, who asked me to bring the vehicle back. Instead of a constructive discussion, I was directed to an aggressive staff member who insisted there was "no way" this could have happened at their dealership, without showing any willingness to properly assess the situation. The cost to patch a tire is minimal -- something that could have been resolved easily and professionally. I've already spent over $2,000 at this dealership, and as someone who lives nearby, my lifetime value would easily exceed $10,000. Losing a loyal customer over such a small issue -- and handling it with defensiveness rather than customer care -- is disappointing. I brought my car to Downtown Toyota on November 5, 2024, at 4:00 PM for a wheel alignment and handed it over to Tony. The next day, around 8:00 AM, Tony called to inform me that the alignment was completed. I went back, paid $192.10, and picked up my vehicle. However, during my drive, I noticed that my steering wheel was still off-center by about 10 degrees to the right. Upon visually checking the wheels, I realized that the alignment had not been done at all. I reached out via email to Javid, the service manager, to inform him of the issue, but no one has responded. This isn't my first problem with Downtown Toyota, but it's definitely the most frustrating one. It makes me question whether they're actually performing maintenance services or just charging me without doing the work. I'd like to briefly describe two other issues I faced with this dealership. When purchasing my car, I bought a tire and rim warranty, which was supposed to cover any damage for repairs or replacement as necessary. My rims had scratches, so I requested repair, but Tony informed me that rim repair was not included in my warranty, and I was sent away. After several follow-ups and multiple emails, they finally ordered a new rim and called me back. Additionally, I bought my car new, but ever since day one, there has been a persistent mark on the rear right window whenever it's opened or closed. This is clearly a manufacturing defect, but Tony asked me to pay $160 to fix it. These issues are just a few among many I have encountered at Downtown Toyota, both during the car purchase process and with the service department. In my experience, Downtown Toyota only cares until the contract is signed and the payment is collected; afterward, it's nothing but stress. I strongly advise against doing business here. For the first time in my life, I'm choosing to have my car serviced outside an authorized dealership because I no longer trust them. read more

Service department is absolutely TERRIBLE!!! I booked an appointment over a month ago for a tire swap, just a simple tire swap. The winter tires are on separate rims, so literally a 30 minute job at most. I'm talking from the time they take my car in, hoist it, remove all seasons, put winters on, check tire pressure and get my vehicle back! I booked it for Saturday November 16 at 8:00am, first appointment of the day. Went in before 8am because I want to be on time for my appointment and the service attendant tells me I have to leave my van there all day...are you serious! We are a family of 5 and need our van especially on weekends for our kids and all our running around. I was in shock when I was told this and asked for my vehicle back right away.  I called the service manager Sam, left him a voicemail and sent him an email expressing my disgust and wanting an explanation as to why/how can they do this to their customers.  That's terrible customer service and even worse customer relations. This is the second time the service department has done this to me and the last. I will never, ever set foot in that lousy dealership again! If all other Toyota dealerships went out of business I would sell my Sienna and buy something else just so I don't have to go there. They obviously book 10x over what they can handle just to rake in money and don't care about what inconvenience they will cause their customers. I have been going to DT for over 5 years. For a dealership, I find they are pretty fair in the pricing and they do some extras, like wash your car for you. You can also have your scheduled maintenance (like oil changes/tire rotation) done on a Saturday - they are open until 4 pm. For those of us needing our cars during the week -- it works great. If you drop it off around noon - you can check out Dark Horse Coffee across the street, or Burger Shoppe, or Prohibition, also if you want Brunch there is Bonjour Brioche just up the street (great quiches and baguette!) Also, Toyota has a loyalty program now (no cost to enroll), and all your maintenance spend gets recorded, and you can use points towards service or other items. The time before this time my Oil change was free. read more

Yesterday, I went to pickup my used Toyota Highlander LE Hybrid I had purchased. The scheduled appointment time was 12pm and it was communicated by phone call and 2 separate emails to 2 different people ahead of time. I arrived at 10:30am on Friday, October 9, 2020 and waited 6.5 hours before I was able to pickup the vehicle and drive home. When I arrived the vehicle wasn't even ready for pickup. However, I found out there were some unforeseen circumstances that had happened. As a result, I waited patiently. About an hour after I arrived the vehicle was just going through the car wash machine. After it was washed the car was parked aside and it took several hours before the car was even cleaned. The time and effort spent cleaning my car was minimal compared to other new and used cars that other customers were picking up. At around 1:30pm, I also found out that licensing wasn't done yet and someone from the dealership was on their way to Service Ontario to complete this work. I was previously assured the dealership was going to take care of the licensing and plate transfer. After I was told the vehicle was finally ready, which was very late in the afternoon at approximately 3:45pm, I went to check the cleanliness of the car and found patches of debris when I opened the trunk. There was hair all over the place in the trunk and the plastic trim was clearly unconditioned. This is very embarrassing given the fact that I was assured by the Service Manager that the vehicle was already cleaned. Tola had instructed for the vehicle to be re-cleaned when he saw this. Because I had already been waiting for close to 5 hours, I didn't bring up other minor details like bug debris on the headlight and on the right and left side mirror. These items would've been noticed and addressed if someone had taken the time to properly clean the car. What disappointed me the most was the attitude from Ricky Lo and Javed Khan. When I answered Ricky's question about why I was walking towards the entrance of the service department I explained I was picking up an used car that I had bought, he rolled his eyes and completely ignored me. Then when I spoke with Javed after waiting for several hours, one of his reactions was nobody knew about my situation, which is not true because it had already been communicated with Ricky. I had also witnessed Tola instruct the people doing the cleaning and detailing hours before to clean my car but the car just ended up sitting there for hours. When I spoke with Javed he insisted that the car cleaning had been completed, which turned out to be a lie, as described in the paragraph above. Javed then went on to say that used cars go through somebody else and tried to brush away the responsibility as if the service department was a completely separate entity and not part of Downtown Toyota dealership. I have visited Toyota dealerships across Canada, US, Asia, Europe and this was by far the worst experience. The impression I got was if I wasn't there for service or buying a new car, I was treated as a second class citizen. Kudos to Tola for doing everything he can to rectify this situation. Tola ended up rolling up his sleeves and swapped my license plates onto the car I was buying. Tonya tried to help make the situation better. She said she was going to speak with their management about this but I honestly don't think anything was done from the management to help make the situation better. Telal witnessed what was going on and did the right thing and took the time to talk to me casually about cars which helped make the time go by quicker while I was waiting. There are good people at this dealership like Tola, Tonya, and Telal trying to build a great image for the dealership. However, I was thoroughly disappointed by the attitude, professionalism, and integrity of people in the service department. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DOWNTOWN TOYOTA. DO NOT HONOUR WARRANTY WORK. UNPROFESSIONAL! Every time I have been to this dealership it is an absolute disappointment. The service staff at this location are terrible. From waiting 1.5 hours for them to retrieve an oil filter from the basement to a total scam in warranty, this dealership is less than professional. I registered a complaint about a sound coming from my driver side tire at 48 000 KM only to have service staff member Jallone tell me that it was tire noise due to a faulty tire. He then charged me $145 + tax because there was "no problem found". I still continued to hear the sound. Later in the year I changed out my tires for winters and still experienced the same issue on the driver side wheel. I went back into the dealership at 62 000 KM and service staff member Max told me that their technicians would not be able to diagnose the issue because they could not drive the vehicle at 100 KM/h. He said that winter tires cause "road noise" and that was what I am experiencing. After expressing that I would like the issue looked into further he said it would be a few hours I would have to spend at the dealership and take a technician out on a drive to recreate the problem. Even though my complaint was registered before the 60 000 KM drivetrain warranty I was told that this issue would no longer be covered. As a result I took my car and left this dealership, went to my personal mechanic and he replaced the front left bearing as it was faulty. He was able to get this fully covered by Toyota. I have not heard the sound since. For that reason I will never be back to do business with this dealership. read more

We had a great experience purchasing our Rav4 from Tony. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to show us how every feature worked on our test drive. We appreciated his patience and did not feel upsold or any pressure to purchase, which made it easier for us to make the decision. The price on the car came in slightly lower than the other Toyota dealership we were looking at and we were able to trade in our car for a fair price. A few weeks ago received a letter from downtown toyota, saying that they're very interested in buying back my 2013 Prius c, I didn't think anything of it as I'm very happy with my car. So a few days ago, I received a call from a Product Advisor: Lisa Tu, asking me if I was interested in selling my 2013 Prius c back to them, and that they can compensate me, and give me some kind of offer on a new car. I've never been asked for a buy back, so I thought what's the harm, I thought I go and see what they were going to offer me. At first nothing was laid out clearly, but we slowly got to see what the numbers were, because all I wanted to see was the numbers, that's all I wanted. Lisa stepped out and I talked to the manager (indian) directly, we talked for a while, still couldn't get a confirmation on what the set monthly payment will be, he wanted me to say yes before giving me the final offer, then he started to get very impatient with me, I felt very uncomfortable/pressured, we ended the talk and that was that. Before going home, I went over to the service department to chat with an advisor, I had some thing I wanted to ask him, then Lisa came back and started giving me better offers, now that I have the numbers, I see what I was actually into, but I decided the better option of me was to keep the car that I have, and continue driving it. Throughout the whole process, Lisa stayed really patient and professional, but I kept saying no and they kept giving me better offers. At the end, I decided not to trade in for a new car, but Lisa still gave me a warm good bye, but another manager (caucasian) still trying to strike a deal, asking what would be a number I'm happy with, said he can tried to see if he can offer me a 90 days free of payment, I wasn't bluffing, I really was there to see what the offer was and decided I am better off with not trading my car, at the end he question me what I came the first place, which I did not appreciate. Overall, I highly recommend anyone looking for a toyota to talk to Product Advisor: Lisa Tu, but I would be very wary of the managers there, and do your research before going. The indian manager told me toyota will still continue to offer the the prius c and prius v (wagon) for another two years, which I am not sure if he is just saying that to make a sale, or if it's confirmed. From my understanding, the prius c/v will most likely not get replaced, and only the standard prius, and maybe later a plug in prius will be added to the line up. read more

Over the last few years my family have leased and purchased several vehicles at this dealer, the service has been fair up until last month when our 2 leases came to an end. In a telephone conversation I explained to manager John Flynn that I was going to return one car and purchase the other, that my wife and I are going into retirement and we didn't need 2 cars anymore. From then on they didn't seem to care about us, we managed to arrange an appointment with this manager, we got to the dealership in time, John walked by us a couple of times without even look at us and it wasn't until about one hour later that we complained, that someone else took care of the situation. If you ever go to this place stay away from John Flynn, specially if your are not white Canadian. He was always uncomfortable in dealing with my Spanish accent, more so now that I got old and don't spend money in new cars anymore. read more

Wouldnt recommend. Went across town to buy a car from these guys. When I got there and was ready to pay for it. The price showed up as 4k more than the price listed on the Toyota certified website. I was told it was updated a week ago. Then later the GM said it was brought tk his attention 3 days ago. They would only offer me $300 off the car. And then as i walked out the GM offered to drop it another $300. A total of $600 on a 4k difference. I continued to watch the certified site daily. Taking screenshots every few hours. The price did not update for another 3 days!!! I called 3 times. No return call. Until I posted a review. -- I went to look the car up on autotraders. There are numerous cars same make, model, year, km listed for 2k less than these guys want!!!! I even asked them to meet me in the middle. Which is was more than fair. Especially since it would have been closer to the actual value of the car. read more

I suggest being wary and getting a second opinion on expensive repair estimates at this dealership! Instead of spending $1600 as estimated by Downtown Toyota service experts, our car only needed a $150 repair to correct the situation. My son's 2003 Corolla failed emissions test Jan 2012 with high NOX. I chose the factory-trained experts at Downtown Toyota (in my son's home area - to start a dealership service relationship for him for future needs) to diagnose the problem. My money (diagnostic fee ~$118 tax in) and everyone's time ended up wasted; after having the car for 2 hours Toyota emissions specialist Technician said it needed a new Catalytic converter (~$1600 parts & labour). I investigated further before having the repair done, and the proper fix required ONLY a new oxygen sensor (~$150; installed by myself). The car subsequently passed emissions retest with great results! Downtown Toyota only remedy to my complaint about this faulty diagnosis & overly expensive estimate was to offer a 20% discount on future parts and service expenditures - not leaving me or my son as satisfied customers! read more

I've just had my third visit and third unpleasant experience with Downtown Toyota, after moving to the city. Quotes for service, are not transparent. When the bill arrives, there are surprises. You may approve service X, but in order to complete service X they may have to do, or provide, Y and Z also, but that won't be shared with you until the work is complete. Thus, quotes are only half truths. I have found the trend here to be one that is not forthcoming. Most recently, this dealership tried to tell me that my one year old brake rotors, installed by a different Toyota dealership, had rusted so badly they might need to be replaced. I drive the car regularly, and less than 700 km a month. Once I expressed my surprise at the ludicrous suggestion, the tone changed. They still charged me $500 to sand them down. Wow. I dropped my vehicle and keys off overnight, and they totally forgot to do my service. I went to pick up the vehicle and they couldn't even find the key. I then had to adjust my work schedule to return the following day. I'll be finding a different service provider. They blew it, three times. read more

I leased a 2013 Toyota Matrix from Downtown Toyota. At lease-end in September, I told them I wanted to buy it out. I received several calls from their salesmen wanting to sell me new cars. I asked for the paperwork before going to meet for the payment and transfer of ownership, but they said I could only see it at an in-person meeting. I sat down with their Senior Financial Services Manager, John Rehman who asked if I was aware of the "buyout fee" of $400. I said had checked my contract and didn't notice that fee. Then he said it might be $300. But he didn't have a copy of my contract. And he said the money went to Toyota Canada, not the dealership. According to my contract, such a fee did not exist. According to Toyota Canada, the dealer gets such fees. They are indeed very aggressive with marketing. They love robocalls and spam. Toyota makes great cars. Sadly, they don't seem to have the same quality control on the people who sell the vehicles. read more

I'd give these guys negative stars if I could. I took my car in to get two engine sensors replaced, and after diagnosis, they handed me an estimate of approx $4000. That's the price of a new engine! I proceeded to tell them no, took my car to a mechanic that I know and trust (Heffner's Toyota in Kitchener) , and found out that this is a tactic that dealers use to get you to buy a new car. I wouldn't trust these guys to fix a lawnmower engine in the future. Be forewarned, this dealership is not to be trusted. read more

Adequate service if your car is under warrantee. My engine light has been on for a year. 3 visits (charged each time) they are still incapable of fixing it. Different excuse every time. Pretty expensive even for an oil change. Long wait times even for the most straightforward repairs. Not great at returning calls. There are better places unless you really want to get repairs at dealership. Not great service off warrantee. I think I'll find somewhere else for service. Suggest you do too. read more

I've used this dealer intermittently since 1999. They do repairs well the first time but have had mistakes the last few visits. A couple years ago they left the window down and soaked the back seats when washing it. There was no apology or warning when I picked it up. I had to buy garbage bags to carry passengers the next couple days so they could sit on them. This past visit for regular maintenance I Was called because there were a few light bulbs out. I said I would do it myself and I found them changed anyway and the $38 added in at the end of my bill after pick up. I was going to do it myself because I already had spare ones in the storage and it takes 3 minutes or less. I'm becoming very skeptical about any dealership in this city!!!! read more

Tony was incredibly patient with us, very knowledgeable, listened to what we were looking for, and had great (and relevant) suggestions for us and our lifestyle. He was respectful and took his time with us- and didn't apply pressure tactics whatsoever. He knew budget was a concern for us, and he helped us with some great suggestions. This place was a complete rip off for me. I took the car in for a safety and there was "too big" a divot in the windshield according to them. They wanted $480 for a new one. I talked to a windshield expert, and the damage was within the size of a quarter and hence could be repaired. So, I wasted $140 for a safety that they would not award; they tried to get $620. read more

If there were a lower rating than one I'd use it. Appalling service. Simple warranty issue. Battery died. The vehicle has 19000 km and less than 2 years old. I get the third degree as if to suggest its failure was my fault. The vehicle has only had 2 service checks both at this dealership. The attitude I get is they'll check it out and if they determine manufacturers defect then perhaps it will be covered. I bite my tongue. Attempting to dodge warranty obligations is not customer service. I ask how long it'll take. I suggest if more than an hour I'll go to work and come back. She suggests I wait. 2 hours later I'm out of patience. I ask for progress. She says they are still determining cause. I ask her to find out how long. She comes back with tech and a diagnosis of a failed cell. Only reluctantly did she acknowledge it was under warranty. I ask how longer. She says she needs to check to see if they have it in stock. Are you kidding me. She's had two hours. She saunters off to the parts dept. I'm in luck. She tells me it'll be half an hour. 45 minutes I'm back asking for an update. Finally after 3 hours I get my vehicle. But I have to remove the plastic seat cover and paper floor mat. Man does this place suck. I'll be writing formal letter to the dealer principal and Toyota Canada. This is my second warranty issue with this outfit. This is my first and likely last Toyota. And the last time ever in that dealership. read more

Charged me $140 to tell me my gas cap wasn't tightened fully. To add insult to injury on the invoice they said they performed a complimentary car wash, not only did they not do this but they left my car outside all day beside a construction site so it was dirtier when I left then when I arrived. I had a terrible experience here at the service centre Took my car in for an Etest with an appointment book. The test actually takes approx. 20 minutes to complete but when I dropped my car off and told them I would wait for it they said it would be 2 hours. When I asked by I was rudely snapped at by the service desk attendant that "they were busy and I was lucky to even get my car in" even though I had made my appointment 2 weeks in advance. Service was performed as requested but it took 2.5 hrs to perform a 20 minute test. No apology received. Seemed like there were many other unhappy customers in waiting room with me. I usually receive OK service here. As a woman in my 30s, I find some of the service advisor men tend to talk to me like I am a child. Today, for instance, I came in to pick up my vehicle--gave my ticket to a male service advisor and, at the same time, asked to see the brake fluid. He spoke to me like I was a 5-year-old, telling me to "hang on, hang on"--as if an additional request was too taxing on him. Luckily, Heidi, another service advisor, was on hand and was able to listen and help me out with respect and patience. Thank you, Heidi, and the friendly gentleman who retrieved my car for me. This Toyota dealership is a horrible place to go. My car has 15k and is under warranty up to 60k. The first thing that should have set us off was our salesman adding on an extra $500 for nitro filled tires and tried to pass it off as mandatory. Well it wasn't mandatory and we did get the $500 back. The most recent issue was a glove box handle that broke at the hands of a Toyota employee and they were trying to charge $195 to replace it. First problem, one of Toyotas employees broke it...second issue, it is under warranty. We had to go through a huge run around to get them to fix it under warranty. The piece that broke was cheap plastic. As well, because we had gotten it done under warranty they decided to skip the car wash and brought our car out dirty as we seen all cars getting serviced were nicely washed. Oh well, that just meant they had to take it back and wash it... Pretty immature if you ask me..I would not and will not return to this location. I will go to any other location except this one.. There is no customer loyalty at all... read more

ALEX WANG is one of the most annoying and rude agents i have ever dealt with. Pressured my partner and I almost every hour to send in a form because we were interested in the 2018 Highlander; we were not able to fill out the form until the afternoon due to both of us being in work. Finally submitted it to him in the morning and he promised to have our result by the end of the day... The next morning ( today) I had to call ALEX to find out what was the status of the paper work. He said everything is good to go and approved just come in today and he will take care of us. Happily we both took the day off and was heading to Toyota when my partner received a call from Stephanie that she needed two additional government ID. We said yeah no problem my partner was going to get his passport and citizenship card since he lived in Markham and we were influenced to come here by a customer. We had not sent the IDs yet and got an email not even a call to say that it was declined (we had no idea why); so I emailed Alex and said was the application declined? The audacity of Alex to reply and this was the message "TOYOTA SAY NO". Such a terrible and upsetting service provided by him when a small problem had occurred. Clearly with "Toyota Say No" meant he doesn't have to deal with us since we were no value to him again. My partner and I will take our business elsewhere for the distasteful and disappointing customer service provided by ALEX WANG!! read more

$2400 for servicing a 2006 Toyota Matrix with 50,000 km on the odometer is a bit high, in my opinion. That's what my elderly neighbour paid to have her car serviced here a number of months ago. I know this for a fact as I had a chance to quickly review the bill. 2 new front tires and front rotors; a new water pump - they said the old one had a hole in it, according to my neighbour; $20 to change the air conditioning filter - should take about 5 minutes max; they also changed the automatic transmission fluid even when they told her it didn't need changing but she agreed to have it changed anyway - these are a few of the items on that repair bill. Based on this I would advise anyone dealing with the service department to be very careful about getting any work done here and demand to see any parts that were replaced. I certianly wouldn't let my mother go here unless I came with her! read more

Lisa was very knowledgeable, and knew exactly what I was looking for. She was respectful, understanding, and dedicated to her job. She kept in constant contact with me so that I knew exactly what was happening as the car was being prepared for pick-up. She even sent me pictures of the car so that I knew exactly what my brother would be receiving. I am more than happy with the service I have received from Lisa, and with all sincerity, I thank her for making this happen. read more

My Heart goes out to Greg W about his son's Corolla that was falsely diagnosed as needing a new Cat. I myself got caught up in this frustrating cycle back in 2011, (never went to Toyota) but tried to get e test (old style with exhaust probe and Dynanometer) at Canadian tire. Failed 3 times during which I changed both O2 sensors myself along with all Spark plugs, Air filter, clean Oil and poured in that stuff that is supposed to help you pass, sold in Canadian tire. Still had no idea why it would not pass they could not tell me. In the end got a conditional pass by going to a little garage that does a diagnostic then writes an invoice saying you need to spend more than $450 to get thru, of course you have to pay $120 just for the note. Then more recently when the new OBD test came in, was told by my little back street garage to dump the car because it would need a new charcol filter plus O2 sensors and god knows what else. So for some strange reason I wandered into Scarborough Toyota and they said they would do a scan for $56 ! only, which told me it only needed an evaporative return solenoid from the fuel tank, this would get rid of the code causing Check light, so like an idiot went back to the little garage where they fitted an after market part that got the car thru test but then the light came on a few days later and has been lit ever since. I have been told several times that these after market parts never work so I will have to buy a genuine one. The point of the story is that this ridiculous e test makes us all a victim to scammers in the motor trade, including DT Toyota but I had an excellent result from Scarborough Toyota, which helped me keep the car. As this is a forum for DT Toyota, I will mention that we are less than satisfied with them, as we have gone there to get Oil changes done which are included free in the extended warranty on our 2015 Rav4. When we picked the car up found the front number plate all mangled up so went and asked how this happened, was told by young girl that it must have been the car wash as it has happened before! to other cars, well I would never put my car into anything other than a touchless wash as I don't know what sort of damage you get from the brushes on such a new car, needless to say we did not request this wash and glad we turned down the request for a tire rotation because I find they almost always over tighten and cause damage to rims and locknuts.
