They are from Belize, but have lived in Texas for 19 years. Everything you see in the pictures was built by Bediko and his lovely wife. They started with a house and a metal building where he created his art. Next came 4 rooms for guests and lots of community space for the guests. A beautiful courtyard, an outdoor lounging area, and a small professional kitchen where the guests can cook if they so desire. They gave us a wonderful tour and told us about their lives. In fact, they had just sold the place, and are moving back to Belize soon. If you have ever been to a Chuy's restaurant, the metal artwork is done by Bediko! And the car trunk buffet servers are also built by Bediko! The man is SO incredibly talented. It was wonderful to meet them, and I wish them the best of luck back in Belize!

While there my husband and I took a trip down memory lane with all the toys. Theresa was such a help! She noticed I was looking through the books and asked if I was looking for one in particular. I told her the title and that it was my favorite as a child. They didn't have it in stock but she said they could try and order it but alas, it's out of print. We ended up leaving with a puzzle, stuffed animal, and an adorable book (per Theresa's expert recommendation) for my cousin's baby shower.

I was so lucky we found this place. Just when you think you know a lot, you come across a cotton…read moregin and your mind explodes. I never know what went into cotton ginning....heck, I didn't know what it was. the museum admission is free, but there is small fee for guided gin tours. Stormee is very knowledgeable and helpful. She showed us a short film depicting the history of the gin and the wonderful folks that ran it There is a little store where you can purchase items - we bought some homemade cinnamon honey. There is a small cotton patch and a path that leads to the gin. You can peak in the see the "Lady B" engine. If you can make it for the 3rd Saturday in April, that's when they have the annual Burton Cotton Gin festival. I bet that is awesome.
