The staff is pleasant to deal with. The landscapers gave me ideas I had a problem area behind my garage. Nothing was ever planted there but invasive weeds grew profusely. All other landscapers came out and suggested mulch except Down to Earth. Carlos who I worked with said he could put down mulch, but stone would be better. There were branches and something that used to hold wood and an old wheel barrel that had a flat tire and large rack that I would trip over in a stump that I would also trip over. I opted for the stone. They took away everything behind the garage and cleared the area completely. Then I asked them if they could do the side of the garage with stone. They said if they had enough, they would do it. They had enough. It looks absolutely beautiful and then they put mulch around the restroom the yard. They were neat everything was cleaned off. They even Luis leaves off the patio. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Buyer Beware: Rude and pathetic customer service! Product itself is ok. This was my experience: They promised to deliver Friday afternoon but I did not see anyone till late evening. There was NO communication that there's a delivery issue. Around 7pm on Friday, I wrote an email asking "Where is my mulch??". To their credit, I did get a response from a person named "Lupe" around 11 pm saying "It will be delivered early tomorrow morning." Saturday morning till around 10 AM there is NO mulch delivery, so I give them a call and ask the status. Instead of any apologies, I got put on a LONG hold and then a barrage of questions, including "Who are you? Who promised you delivery today?" The person, (Liz??) who claimed to be a manager and dispatcher, admitted that they DID NOT KNOW THAT THE DELIVERY DID NOT HAPPEN YESTERDAY. So, what exactly is that role?? When I tell Liz that I have an email from "Lupe", Liz tried calling Lupe and apparently Lupe promptly left for her long weekend holiday. When I ask to be given a discount due to this inconvenience, Liz ( "manager") flat out refused, saying there is no discount due to human error. Really?? Also, it's as if Liz was daring me to cancel my order...! Finally, the delivery did arrive a couple of hours later on Saturday afternoon and the mulch looks ok, BUT BOY I'd think twice before dealing with this shop again!! read more

I'll sooner drive all the way to DesPlaines to go to Lurvey garden center (a place that actually helps customers) for bulk materials even then go back here. They are not interested in serving residential customers. They will not sell less than 1cy bulk material and even if I buy a full yard, they will not let me make 2 trips and take 1/2 at a time. They weren't even busy, I didn't see anyone else needing anything. On top of this, the one time I did buy and pickup "compost" they loaded me with garden mix and told me it was the compost. read more

Having worked with these folks for the past 8 +/- years. I must say these past coule of years we have seen the quality of both there products/mulch, and on site services fall off to the point we had to call it a day. After seeding with their product this year our lawn is now full of cattail's and weeds we ahve never seen in the past. Only to be told by Lupe that had we watered the lawn this would not have happened ! As for customer service, and/or standing by their services, they have fallen flat on all fronts! I just had an amazing experience with Down To Earth Landscaping. From start to finish I called to order materials and talked to a super friendly helpful person. Prices were great compared to others in the area. Cheerfully offered same day delivery on a holiday weekend. The delivery arrived at exactly the time I expected and Greg worked with me to get the materials placed in the most convenient place for the job I'd be doing. I'm a very beginner diy'er and he offered suggestions, support and lots of kindness for the job I was going to do. The quality of the products delivered far exceeded my expectations - again, compared to other resources in the area. We have used Down To Earth Landscaping for our mulch the last 4 years and I have had no problems. I particularly like the black dyed mulch. It is as dark as topsoil. The mulch color holds up and my yard looks awesome. I will definitely continue to use these guys. read more

Very happy with this service for the past 2 years. They not only mow the lawn but do everyhing else that's needs to be done without having to tell them. Last fall I was quite shocked that even my vegetable garden got cleaned - that was the first time in many years / and many other services/ that somebody actually did it for me . I had a great experience with DTE recently. They provided and spread 62 cubic yards of oak mulch in one day, with a working supervisor (Carlos Maldonado) and four workers. The project was handled very professionally and courteously, and I especially appreciated that DTR's scheduler (Lupe Maldonado) accommodated my request for quick service, despite their overloaded work schedule, by performing the work on a Sunday at no extra charge. One of the advantages of using this company is that they manufacture their own mulch at a South Barrington facility. I highly recommend DTE. read more

Horrible. They came out for an estimate, we discussed what we wanted done. When I called the office to say certain parts of the yard weren't done, they initially said it was too wet to do anymore. I asked to talk to the guy who came out for the estimate as to why part of the yard wasn't done and he said that's not what we talked about. Normally I would chalk this up to a misunderstanding somewhere, maybe a language barrier as I don't think English was his first language, however, instead of discussing this like a normal person he starts screaming, truly screaming at me that he's not going to do anymore service and to find someone else. Really?? I said this is how you speak to a customer because I'm questioning why the work wasn't done? He wouldn't stop screaming so I hung up. This man has a horrible temper that erupted because I disagreed with what we had talked about....scary behavior really.... read more

I received a flyer in the mail from DTE landscape advertising mulch at $15 per yard. When I called to request an order I was told that they could not sell for that price (even though there is no expiration date provided) and was quoted a higher price. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told that the person who made the flyer is no longer there and it was a mistake. I have to seriously question the business practices in this company based on this experience. I went somewhere else. read more

Worst experience ever. I would never use this company again for any service. Quote and payment did not reflect the service. They used cheap mulch that lost the color in less than a month. Only 1 inch or less in some areas was put down. They also told me for entire yard and only did 3/4 of it. When they came back to address the other areas they said simple mistake they didn't realize I would want that area done and they can charge me more. I have had previous lawns done over the past 20 years for much less and better quality that easily lasted a season for color and sometimes even more than a season. Never before less than a month.
