The job was done in a couple of minutes and cost about four quid. Can't say fairer than that. Apart from this service, the shop is the perfect place to pick up random bits of diy at cut prices and is a generally useful place to know about. Very local, very basic, but very good. Not a lot when you consider that you are getting premium quality for your money. Think about it how many times can you paint your house in a lifetime, a couple, so you want the best stuff too last a long time. They pride themselves in having their products hand made, on the most part, in the UK and Europe. It is part of their 'green' commitment. They also source their wood and glass (for their mosaic collection) from sustainable forests, 86% of their glass is recycled. The most educational part of my visit to the store was their fully fitted 'library' it had paint samples, tiles, rugs and wood sample that you can also experiment with and mix and match, very hands on. Products are displayed concisely and intelligently in what can only be described as a quality environment. I am contemplating showing them my hand made tile collection, it would be amazing to have my creations alongside theirs.

I have used this store for 95% of the items I needed to refurbish my house. They have provided recommended plumbers and plasterers, all of whom have been first rate. On one occasion, the owner even gave me a lift home with my shelves. Now that's service! I just wanted to add that, in my view, we and our council reps need to create laws/rules to ensure that a resonable % of shops are independents (i.e. interesting - remember interesting venues? I do). Do we want just StarBucks and Costa Coffee shops? - No (unless you are a drone). SB and CC are probably good businesses in their own right but we just want (nay, need) variety. End of sermon.

Spanning two floors in a large shop on the high street, Robert Dyas covers most areas of house ware and maintenance. When I moved into my new apartment they sorted me out with all the tools I needed to construct a book case and the hooks to put up my curtains. Whilst I was in there, I also picked up a reasonably priced wok, a sandwich toaster ( I love toasted sandwiches) and a good spice rack. These were all reasonably priced. I was even tempted to buy a hot dog machine which looked fun! Perhaps for the 4th July Coney Island competition! If you are doing any DIY then they stock most items or tools that you may need. They also have a good selection of garden items and BBQ gear. The staff are very helpful and given the wide range of produce in stock are always knowledgeable about what you may need, particularly the guys working on the hardware counter upstairs. You can also pick up a selection of electronic equipment from speakers to PC accessories at reasonable prices. My flat mate broke my sandwich toaster on it's second use (idiot!!), but when I got him to return it they were happy to offer an exchange, even though it must of been clear that it was not a malfunction that caused the break. A great shop to pick up handyman supplies and also worth browsing for random items like hot dog machines!!
