I went in to get a key cut and was presented by an extraordinary man who looked like he'd jumped ship from a pirate vessel in Morocco and didn't talk to me. Or anyone else for that matter. The job was done in a couple of minutes and cost about four quid. Can't say fairer than that. Apart from this service, the shop is the perfect place to pick up random bits of diy at cut prices and is a generally useful place to know about. Very local, very basic, but very good. Also does engravings.

The shop has the feel of a cross between a hardware store and a soft furnishings shop. I actually stumbled across Brewers via Google, after a fruitless search for a shade of white paint that only seemed to be available to the trade. Homebase completely failed me, since the barely pubescent Saturday staff weren't exactly the most knowledgeable, but Brewers was listed as a place that dealt in trade colours. After about 30 seconds of looking at paint on the shelves in Brewers, someone spotted my cluelessness and rescued me. He quickly found out what exactly I wanted, despite my vagueness, and gave great advice on what I needed to buy. There was a clear focus on what the customer wants, rather than trying to sell me more than I needed. A nice touch is that while I was waiting for my paint to be mixed up, I was offered a free drink from the vending machine. Ok, it's hardly fresh filter coffee, but it's still much more than you could reasonably expect from a DIY shop. I'm definitely shopping here for my decorating needs from now on, and avoiding Homebase like the plague.

Not a lot when you consider that you are getting premium quality for your money. Think about it how many times can you paint your house in a lifetime, a couple, so you want the best stuff too last a long time. Oh and pumice is the color I bought for my house, and after months I'm still enjoying my color decision.

They pride themselves in having their products hand made, on the most part, in the UK and Europe. It is part of their 'green' commitment. They also source their wood and glass (for their mosaic collection) from sustainable forests, 86% of their glass is recycled. The most educational part of my visit to the store was their fully fitted 'library' it had paint samples, tiles, rugs and wood sample that you can also experiment with and mix and match, very hands on. Products are displayed concisely and intelligently in what can only be described as a quality environment. I am contemplating showing them my hand made tile collection, it would be amazing to have my creations alongside theirs.

The store carries paint, light fixtures and everything you can possibly need for a build or for renovations to your home. I was helped as soon as I walked into the store by friendly and super knowledgeable staff. I got some obscure light fixtures that I couldn't find at any major popular store here for £2 a pop. I really appreciated my shopping experience at this place and would come back to buy a hammer anytime.

Unfortunately I have now moved to Ipswich and am sad to say "There is no place like Home(craft)" here which is truly my loss!! There are 2 of these shops pretty much facing each other either side of the street. One sells…read moreeverything garden and DIY related. The other selling a fantastic range of cook and houseware. Both are definately worth a look as they are like little aladdins caves, full of treasures and certain to have what you are looking for! Staff are really knowledgable and are happy to answer any questions you may have or point you in the right direction if you are stuck. Prices are reasonable, no more expensive than anywhere else in the town and generally I've always found there is a really nice atmosphere to both shops.

I went through a short phase when I couldn't afford F&B paint but found it a huge mistake to try and find a substitute which lasted as well and looked so good. I have bought a listed building this year and am hoping that I can find enough 'breathable' paint in the Farrow and Ball range to continue using it. I'm just on my way to Richmond to collect some for my front door. Just love it :)

I was strong & ignored the Christmas decorations (I usually succumb) but bought some prezzies and was strongly attracted to some of vases, great for Christmas twigs & lights. In the summer they have really unusual outdoor furniture & accessories. I have a Cargo discount card which gives 10% off, I was given it free sometime ago but I think they may cost £5 now. Still worth it if you are going to buy furniture. Staff are always helful.

However whilst I was there I saw loads of original ideas for christmas presents. If I was not for the fact I have finished mine I would probably have got quite a few! They had some lovely rugs, but despite having them on display was told they were out of stock for a few weeks?? I would definately recommend a walk around this shop if you are stuck for ideas for presents.
