I was at the Drydene 400 yesterday at Dover International Speedway with family! I went because although my normal experience with NASCAR is watching on tv the start of a race, falling asleep on my favorite chair and waking up in time to watch the finale, I wanted to see what it's like in person at least once in my life. Although exciting, and the overall experience I had was outstanding, a good part of actually watching the race, to me, was somewhat boring. I didn't end up sleeping in the stands but almost did, and I did catch my brother with his eyes closed. There were about three or four cautions during the race not including the stages or competition caution, and they were for cars that went loose into the wall, or a piece of equipment on the track. Nothing special or spectacular but the one car did catch on fire. Thankfully no one was injured or seriously hurt. It was amazing to see the top cars in this particular race who were on point really take command of the track. The first car that got a lap down was on lap 13 according to my brother. Although COVID rules were being advised, and you needed to wear your mask to get into the track, no one was wearing them once in the stands. It was a mix of on or off when walking around, and wearing when in line to get food or use the bathroom. The facility did not sell all seats so there was space and I was glad they did not sell all the seats to do so. They were offering vaccination shots, so that's pretty cool. They were also giving out free masks. All staff were wearing their masks the whole time. The fan zone included food, clothing, a car show, the military, other car and tire company demos and games to play. I won some stress ball tires and low end tire gauges, and also got a free t-shirt. I loved that you were allowed to bring in your own food and drink as long as you followed their requirements. A hell of a lot of people were tailgating, and my brother hooked up into a cornhole game. Everyone was extremely friendly and well behaved in the stands and also outside in the lots and fan zone. I highly recommend bringing ear protection. Again BRING EAR PROTECTION. I took out my earphones for the last five laps, and I was dumbfounded at how loud the race really is with the sound reverberating off the massive aluminum stands. We were in the last (top) row (46) of the Allison stands and had a perfect view of the whole track. I'd also bring sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen. If you have can headphones, bring them. You could also rent scanners which I did not do, but they would have been helpful. $96 each for the tickets, $10 parking, brought our own food, and an awesome day with family. Was almost a little more expensive when my brother lost his Apple AirPod at the top of the stands, but luckily a fan a row down found it before it dropped to the ground. Congrats to Alex Bowman who won, and did it all after taking the lead during an outstanding pit stop jumping two places to get it. He then held it to the end. read more

This is a great place to have fun. You don't have to be a NASCAR expert to enjoy a race. There are multiple events at/near the racetrack. My favorite event is Firefly Music Festival. The activities around the speedway and "monster' are also fun. There are vendors selling merchandise and food. Bring minimal items and try to avoid putting your purse on any floor area in the restrooms. I've been lucky enough to have had a few golf cart tours around the racetrack. It is a unique experience. The casino is within walking distance of the racetrack. There are lots of restaurants in the area. read more

Overall the speedway is awesome! Plenty to do, see, eat before the race. The track itself is small so you can see the whole race. I was very excited yesterday as it was my first time. Unfortunately the race was cancelled due to rain. My complaint is that staff was very rude to us when people were trying to eat/stay dry while it was raining. They yelled for everyone to leave. Another man threatened to have a cop remove us. So we walked the mile back to our car in pouring rain. There's only one exit as well so we sat for a few hours in the lot trying to leave. read more

We won tickets and had great weather! $10 parking fee at the racetrack and other lots are $30 or more with a long walk! $4 for water, $9 for a beer. Multiple food stands so we chose Grotto pizza deal--$10 for 2 slices of pizza and a drink. You can bring your own cooler with drinks and food!! And actually take it right to your seat and therefore not spend any money for drinks or food. A lot of walking and they have many vendors that are handing out freebies and samples. Free concert before the race begins. Highly recommend a visit to a NASCAR race at least ONCE in your life! read more

If you asked the version of me from three years ago about this past Sunday, I would've called myself crazy for being at a NASCAR race (let alone my third time, and second one at this track!). But sometimes life makes you do new things (or your girlfriend). And hey, what a better place to be than the awesome Dover International Speedway. I've watched on tv my fair share of races on tracks all over the country, so I can't compare DIS to anything else (except Pocono) in person. Despite this, the experience of being at a race here was enough to solidify a new fandom for NASCAR. What's a real interesting set up begins with the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino greeting you upon driving into the grounds. Make your way around and pick a spot to set up some tailgating near the track. You don't have to tailgate of course, but you'd be missing out on a quintessential part of the experience. Now tailgating doesn't come with the track. What does? Plenty of historic signs and plaques of races from the past, sponsors offering free samples and giveaways, drivers signing autographs and doing Q&A's, one big NASCAR store with plenty to buy, and oh yeah, Miles! Miles is the extremely large statue/structure that greets fans and drivers alike. He looks a bit intimidating holding an actual stock car in his hand, but luckily, he probably won't climb out of his hole and actually devour the drivers ready to race (the track itself will do that). And there in gives this track it's great nickname "The Monster Mile." Another awesome aspect about this speedway? Being able to bring in food and drinks (cans that is if you're thinking beer) which helps in saving you a little money. There's still vendors selling both, but by being able to do this, it gives off an almost intimate feel. And once inside, get ready for engines blaring, speed as cars zoom by, and plenty of excitement on every restart. Our seats were in a great location, right by turn four and near some of pit road. Though, a dream would be able to somehow score tickets across the Monster Bridge: a structure that hangs above the track right by turn three. Overall, this was a great race (Martin Truex Jr. dominated the day) and an even greater experience, taking in all the wonders and excitement NASCAR and Dover International Speedway has to offer. read more

Been coming hear for over 10 years to nascar races. And over past few years I've notice many changes. With some good and some bad. Many grandstand seats have been removed. The outside area for the fans have got smaller. There are no more souvenir haulers for the drivers merchandise. It's now a huge tent with each drivers license merchandise to buy. The only thing that's the same is the ticket prices. If there is not alot for you to do. There is the Dover Mall next door with a chuck e cheese for the kids to a movie theater. And many restaurants around the area to eat. Me personally I just go for the racing and that's about it. I will still keep coming to nascar races it's one of the best tracks on the circut... I do wish they would add lights have a night race. I think it would fill up all of the remaining seats that are empty every year when nascar comes to Dover read more

Came here for the fall race of NASCAR. We decided to stay a few hours away from the track, which was not too bad of a decision on my part. The track is on the opposite of the hotel/casino. As you can see from the pictures I have posted the horse track is next to the car race track which make this a very special place for the people in this area. The car race track is a 1 mile fender bending track, which does make for some excitement and as NASCAR develops the car it will make this track back to the special hit and run race it used to be. The packing can be tight, but since we arrived early on all three days, we were able to find parking close to the track, we do not mind as the walking is good for us. We did not have any issues with finding our seats, and the staff at the track is very good and friendly. The security at the track is good and fast, which makes for small lines. The vendor area is huge and with a lot of fun activities to do before the race begin, which is good keep things interesting and you are not just waiting for the race to begin. We had a great time here and the history of the track is really special here. If you like to see a NASCAR race, this one would be on your list of tracks to attend. read more

Born and raised in Dover and I have never been to the track for a Cup race. I have been there for the other series (apparently, someone tells me), but never for NASCAR's top series. We had pit passes also, and that was a fantastic time. Even though the race was rained out on Sunday, Monday was still a great time. I recommend that everyone go to a race at the track. You might "eye roll" NASCAR on TV, but until you go you will never know how great seeing a race in-person is. Cheap booze and friendly staff! Even better, bring in your own booze and food! Went to Dover for the first time and my first Nascar experience on May 15th and I had a blast! All of the staff were professional and friendly and the venue looked clean and well-organized. There is a re-entry policy, so you can exit the race and visit the vendors and festivities outside and go back into the speedway as many times as you want (just keep your ticket), which is a plus. Also a huge plus is the fact that you can bring food and alcohol in (no glass)! This is unheard of to me and despite this, I really didn't see any problems that you might associate with a BYOB policy; the vibe remained pretty family friendly everywhere I saw. I used the restrooms a couple of times and didn't see any issues or messes, despite it being busy (can't speak for the ladies room :D). The announcers were fun and lively, as you might expect, and the professionals on the ground seemed to run a tight ship! Overall a great experience, I would definitely return even though it's about a 4 hour drive, and I'm not overly into large crowds or events! read more

I've been coming here since 1999. The racing has gotten better but honestly the crowd has gotten worse. For the first time I sat on the front stretch and was having a great time while my friends sat in turns 3 and 4. For a smoke free track people openly smoke without any kind of interference from security (I smoked for 15 years and openly smoked at the track when it was allowed so I don't want to hear any grief). The track doesn't get anywhere near the crowd they did years ago so if you want to spread out the turns is the way to go, we got lucky that in our row half the people didn't come or buy tickets. This is not a child friendly place like Richmond, Pocono, Charlotte, Bristol or any other track you can mention. The profanities fly, the drunks are plentiful and I've never seen a track so cluttered with trash in all my years of going there. The food inside the track is well below average and your beer selections are Busch or Bud. No thanks I don't want a violent hangover off one beer. Your best bet is to get food from the food trucks outside. read more

We bought 8 tickets to the spring 2019 race which ended up rained out for the Sunday race, just a few warm up laps ran. With the lame NASCAR policy of no refunds, we got screwed out of over $600. While we wished we could return on Monday, that wasn't possible since we are 8 Soldiers on duty in Washington DC. I go to a 100s of sporting events and I can't think of any other event where they screw their fans like NASCAR does. It's a shame they get away with this at the expense of fans. Used to come here twice a year religiously. Then they screwed up the camping. Ok, tried lot ten for a few years, but just wasn't worth the hassle. This year is different. Wife has stage 4 liver cancer, would like one more trip to the races. No problem, Dover gladly sold me a handicap space months ago. My lovely daughter follows me down in the suburban today to drop the motorhome. Sorry! Dover need the placard holder present, regardless of health status. So okay we sat close by to wait only to watch the hostess seat the next couple right after us and yes it wasn't even close to 15 minutes after she told us that.... very freaking rude people. Vroom. Vroom. Ready. Set. Go. Can i say i had an awesome time. Ive been literally waiting ny turn to go to the track to watch a NASCAR race. We pulled up at 930am and the parking lot was already filled with tailgaters. Oh the smell of bbq in the air and what a bright sunny day we had to watch the race. Excuse me as i go through the credentials lane to pick up my hot pass. Excuse me ma'am. Whats the difference between the hot and cold pass. Darling, you can go wherever you want with a Hot pass. To bad i couldnt sit in the winning drivers seat with Jimmy Johnson. Maybe next time. As we all know he basically owns this track whenever hes on it. The track has an awesome view. The cars are basically always in view. Unfortunately there were a couple of crashes and crew mistakes. The sound of car engines as they go around are loud and tge sound builds up adrenaline within you as they go around. Great experience, friendly staff. The suite provided food, non alcoholic beverages and beer. If your able to snag a couple of tickets you wont regret the race at Dover. read more

As far as the race goes, this is one of the best places. A race track were P1 and P5 are not separated by 30 seconds . Is a lot of good battles throughout the whole race, high banked short track, super fast. Food.. Average, drinks not too many options, love the RV show outside the track, parking was good, traffic leaving not so bad. This time they had more things going on outside the track, more options as far as the food goes, overall a good place to go. The race part it's great. I tell you what, the week before this race I was in Charlotte for the 600, huge disappointment, extremely expensive and boring. Dover it's a must see. read more

The Camping World Trucks and Xfinity Races were great, weather was perfect. The Sprint Cup Race was also good, but it was cold. The race was great! read more

Been here several times, always great racing and good times. Food is good and the staff is helpful and pleasant. The inside grand stands are great too, air conditioned, limited view in some areas but still has an outdoor standing area by the track. Definitely recommend going to a race for anyone that hasn't been here. read more
