It can get busy, but not so much that you can't find a spot--it's all first-come, first-served with no reservations required. There's also a basketball court and, on the other side, a sand volleyball court. You'll often see people playing frisbee or flying drones here, which adds to the lively atmosphere. The park has pet-friendly walking and running trails, a small play area for kids, and a few picnic spots. Restrooms are available, and there's plenty of parking. It's always clean, and you'll see enough people around to feel safe even if you're visiting alone.

Where's the city tax money going to if you cannot give the community a pleasant recreation center. A state capital, it sucks. We actually visited another center which was also very old, Dove center. Friendly staff but we left to check out the next, which turns out same. Rundown building. Austin cld do better.

Apart from the two fields, there really isn't much in the way of other amenities. These fields have no lighting so all games must be played during daylight hours. I was playing softball with my company team on Sunday night and as I was leaving I mistakenly drove off with my shoes and wallet on the trunk of my car. I realized this by the time I got to my destination so I ended up retracing my route in a panic desperately attempting to find my black wallet along the side of the road in the middle of the night... ugh. Of course I never found the wallet, but when I got home I had an e-mail from one of the guys that is an umpire for Kreig saying that he found it. He was super nice and had tried several means of contacting from my business card and other info in inside as well as calling my bank to let them know that he had found the lost wallet. Well I got it back the next day and I bought him a beer to show my appreciation. Because this guy was so cool I will go ahead and bump them up to a full 5 stars. Here's to good karma!

In fact, I think it is strictly softball. My husband plays on the softball team for Whole Foods. (GO HUGH!) Once a week my darling husband dons his cleats, team shirt (the Ten Hit Misfits), shorts, and ball cap, sticks a six pack of Lone Star in a cooler and gathers up his glove and sunglasses for a few innings at the ball park. The closer we get to the field the more he fidgets until he's worked himself into such a state of softball fervor that when we arrive he leaps from the car to slap hands with teammates, swig from a can, and throw the softball around- he calls this part "warming up". Now, some Austinites probably prefer the shiny newness of Dell Diamond, all of the concessions they have to offer, the cute uniforms the players wear, how fast they can throw the ball, etc, etc. While Krieg Field offers none of the above, true fans will appreciate the PASSION that the players here bring to the game. You can see it in the jaunty way they turn the bases, albiet middle-aged bellies jigglin and thighs-a-burnin. You can see it in the focus of the umps, all seriousness, spitting on the field, rubbing themselves, and shouting incoherently at the players. You can see it in the fans, all 5 of them, cheering and clapping and laughing hysterically at the foibles and often truly remarkable plays made by their significant others. (No, really.) When a team wins, it is pure joy....beers passed around, all, "Did you see that slide? Man..." "Dude. I TOTALLY tagged him out! That was an OUT!" All hand slapping and "Good game!" and "Let's go to the bar!" When teams lose, it is silent car rides home and regretful re-plays of mistakes made. It's dirty bathrooms (minus one star), dirty players, BYOB, cool breezes and sunsets, FREE all-American hilarious and sometimes tragic FUN.

Now if you're a human (which I assume all reviewers are), there's more than your typical circular trail for walking/jogging. There's playgrounds, plenty of picnic benches, trees, a basketball court, and some restrooms. Location-wise, it's somewhat isolated from society so if you're looking to be in solitude while exploring the outdoors, this is probably your thing.

This is a well-maintained park with a paved pathway that winds around the park. There is a covered picnic area, swings, and a large fenced in playscape area for the kids. There are also some picnic tables with their own grills sitting on concrete pads. The park sits directly across the street from the Uphaus Early Childhood Center. One thing I noticed about this park, which was true of the Houston School Park, was the fact that there are quite a variety of trees planted here other than the usual oaks. It should be noted there is no pool, public bathrooms, or a soccer or basketball area. Nonetheless, there is a lot of green space and picnic areas to enjoy. I can see how most times people just drive off.. me being the curious person I am just started walking by myself in the woods on a trail. I fortunately just so happen to see one woman walking her dogs and followed her in that direction but i swear to you she was walking fast as to not give this place away hahah! She actually disappeared onto another trail and couldnt find her.. (like Alice and Wonderland and the white rabbit style).. finally I heard splashing! I looked to my right and saw a weird trail that went down a steep side hill. So I followed the noise.. its pretty steep so be careful! After the brush and trees cleared THERE IT WAS! CLEAR, COOL WATER!! It was shallow when I got there and only about 8 people were there at 1pm during a Saturday. As time goes on it gets deeper and the water rises! Also more people start coming too. It feels sooooo amazing! You can grab a chair and just sit in the middle drinking and cooling off. Dog friendly! I spent a few hours with my boy before heading back. I live for finding places like this!
