I have used Douglas Tree and Property Service numerous times over the past several years and have found them to be professional, responsive, and perform excellent, thorough work in a reasonable amount of time. I have even called this business in an emergency, and they have come out the same day and performed the work. The owner is very personable and has excellent customer service. He takes the time to listen to your concerns, offers sound suggestions, and has very reasonable prices. I have recommended this company to my family and friends, and they are pleased as well. They really do a great job and we were pleased with the large pine tree they took down. This last tree they were busy but knowing it was a semi emergency they asked someone else to do it. I was not happy with the other crew in the fact that they were not dependable about showing up when promised and they asked for their full payment before the job was done. They did do a great job and cleaned up well afterwards. I did not give Douglas a five star review as the lady that answers the phone promises to call you back and doesn't and she doesn't really seem interested in helping you solve your problem(s). Douglas was out the same day to give the estimate and their prices are great and I would definitely use them again however, when I contract with Douglas, I want them to do the work. I've read many reviews about this company never showing up for appointments but I've always given people the benefit of the doubt so I called and made an appointment for an estimate. I wish I had been able to read the previous reviews here, but unfortunately, since I did not I booked an appointment with Rob to come out to give me an estimate. He arrived on time. But that is about all I can say positive about this man! All of the wonderful claims about his business that he touts is questionable, at least. This is a man who goes through the whole process of driving to my premises, takes at least a half hour to walk the areas that need to be trimmed, bids on the job, prepares a written estimate, a contract per se, books the job. He claimed he could do the work on July 6th. I called a day before to confirm the job; his so-called secretary changed the date to July 13th. I called two days prior, and the secretary confirmed the job twice. The day of the job, Rob did not show to do the work. He never called. Amy, his so-called secretary did not call.....no one called to explain or have the decency to apologize for the "no show". I left a message for them to call me to tell me if they planned on performing the work.....of course, no returned call. My husband decided to call them to ask if someone could come out to do work on our property, he called from a different number, did not say his name, but gave his first name and telephone number. This was on the same day that I had asked for a returned call. Guess what, Amy called him back not knowing that he was related, expecting more work for the company when they cannot even perform the work that was booked for that day! Their honesty and integrity can be woefully challenged and by probably many others too! When I finally reached Amy, she told me that she and Rob had no computers. She said that Rob had no phone. She said she had no way of contacting him. When I asked her if they had discussed the "no show", she said they had not. When I confronted her about the fact that she represented a very questionable business since they never discussed how or why Rob never showed for the job, she said that Rob just shrugged his shoulders. Rob and Amy will undoubtedly stay afloat with their business by doing their onesy- twosie jobs as they flow in. They will continue to pick and choose which job will satisfy their needs for the week by doing the least bit of work required. But in the meantime, countless people will continue to be dissatisfied with their lies, the time that is wasted because days are taken off without pay by their victims (me), their rude behaviors, and last but not least, their cavalier and oblivious attitudes. Douglas tree service is good at one thing, quick responses and a good price, but the saying is very true as you get what you pay for. They were quick to come out and gave us a very good price for the work being done, however in the process they did not properly trim a tree against the property line as they wanted to "keep the neighbors happy". They also broke a solar light and destroyed a walkway by driving over it, and on top of that they left large chunks of shredded wood spewed across the driving unable to clean up after themselves. I have tried several times to contact them and the assistant that answers the phone has told me that he will call me when he gets into the office. I doubt that is going to happen. Moral of the story is, if you want a cheap job done and don't care about the surrounding area I would use Douglas, if you want to keep your property looking nice and if its on a property line I would spend a little extra and use somebody else. read more

Never called to cancel appointment.... Just didn't show! I guess it's better than damage!

Douglas Tree had a great sounding website and voicemail and seemed to be the perfect small business to help, instead of taking it to a larger corporation. I like helping my own city out so I decided to contact them to trim up our trees in our backyard. They were friendly, and I had an estimator come out within a few days. He came out and gave us a great price and we accepted the offer and made an appointment. It was made for a friday morning at 9 so I had taken the day off, as did my roomate, to make sure that the house was ready and they could easily get to our backyard. I checked out the reviews and some were good, but mostly were bad for either shoddy work or just not showing up. I figured that the estimator was very nice and I would give them a chance. What a bad decision. 9 came around and no one showed. I called them to see if they had been running late. The secretary told me that they should've been there and she would call me back. I waited a few hours and got no call. I called back again, and again she told me she would call me back. AGAIN, no calls. I called back one more time, a little frustrated, and she told me that the owner would call. Nothing I waited a few days and called them again and when she answered, she told me she would have the owner call. I received no calls. I continued to call them asking if they would reschedule, trying hard to support their small business, but now they won't pick up when I call. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. In their voicemail, they say that my call was important, but it certainly wasn't. They had a great price but customer service was atrocious. I have made my last call and will be finding a new place to trim the trees. I don't know how they stay in business with such little care for customers. read more

Had an estimate to remove 9 trees in my yard, the estimate was lower than the other companies so I confirmed that I'd like them to do the work. The estimator had a concern with some poison ivy in my yard and I told him I'll have it removed by the time the service is done. I was told they will call me to schedule a date for the service to be done. They never called, so I called them and was scheduled an appointment two weeks out. I removed all of the poison ivy a week before the scheduled time. The scheduled service was on a Monday, I called the previous Thursday to confirm the appointment. I was told they'll be there on Monday. Took off work that day and got a call at 5:52am with someone from the tree service telling me that his girlfriend had to go to the ER 3 days prior and that the service was being put on hold. He was probably expecting to get the voicemail, but this guy works third shift so I'm awake at that time. He said he'll call back and anywho... Two weeks later after receiving no call as expected, I called Sunny Slope Tree Service and they came by and did a fantastic job removing the trees. They were on time, prompt, got the job done and cleaned my property after. Fantastic workers. Sunny Slope was $200 more expensive WITH stump grinding. read more

I used Douglas Tree & Property Service two years ago, at which time they did the job, and didn't leave a mess. I wish I had checked Yelp! before I decided to use them again! I called on March 23rd, and promptly on March 25th, Rob came out, walked the property, and gave advice along with a written estimate. He told me he would be out to do the job the first full week in April (5th -9th). On April 12th, I called to ask when he was planning to come out, since he did not come when he said he would. I was told by a female receptionist that she would call me back as soon as he came into the office. She made it sound like the call would be eminent. I called again on April 16th, since I had not heard back. On Monday, April 19th, I called two times; on Tuesday, April 20th, I called three times. I think I left two voicemails, talked to a man once, and talked to the female receptionist the other times. At some point the receptionist told me she could not find my paperwork, so I took a photo of the quote and texted it to the number she said could recieve texts. That was at 9:48 AM on Tuesday, April 20th. I texted again at 4:09 PM, asking, "Any word on when you can schedule me?" My final call was on Wednesday, April 21 at 8:44 AM. The receptionist told me at that time that she never found my paperwork, and didn't get the texts or the attachment I had sent. The receptionist went on to tell me that Rob had said that "it was a job he could not do". Note that I was holding the written estimate that he gave to me with no indication at the time that there would be a problem. In fact, Rob was very nice when he came to do the estimate; and, as I said, he had done a job for me before, which was why I was so persistent in trying to follow through cheerfully and give him the benefit of the doubt. I called Douglas Tree & Property Service a total of EIGHT times, not including my initial call to schedule the estimate, and I texted them TWICE. There were absolutely NO return calls or texts from Douglas Tree & Property Service, EVER. The receptionist could not tell me WHY he could not do the job--which was not a big job--, so I thanked her and told her I would leave a review on Yelp! I think the facts speak for themselves. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. This is only the second negative review I've ever written, and it's well deserved. My husband contacted them in July to cut back some limbs around our power lines. We decided to go with them because their quote was the least expensive. But that was all we got. A quote. Then they jerked us around for THREE MONTHS altogether to put us on their schedule. Each time it was the secretary saying the person who does it likes to set the schedule, and saying she'd call back after talking to him. She never called back. I even emailed the quote because it didn't seem like she had it on hand. I called about once a week. I figured they were busy and just trying to fit us in and it would work out. Then after 3 months of trying to work it out and trying to figure out what the heck was going on with them, they just said "sorry, we can't do it." No explanation. If they were too busy, they could have said so, instead of wasting our time and not being straight with us. That's something that happens and we would have understood. Why would you come give someone a quote and then not follow through or at least say you'd made an error and can't take on new work at this time. A horrible and unbelievably inconsiderate way to treat someone who is trying to use your services. read more

We were originally pleased with how quickly they responded to our inquiry for a quote, and also felt the quote was reasonably priced; however they have since rescheduled with us 3 times. The second time they showed up and immediately left, calling us later in the morning to reschedule. The last time they understandably didn't come due to rain, but never called to let us know they weren't coming, follow up, or reschedule. I've called them twice to see when they are going to come out to do the job and am still waiting for a call back 2 weeks later.
