If you fall under that category, and the weather is anything but a clear-skied 70 degrees, do not choose this small outpost location. I was alarmed and profoundly disappointed to witness the, I will say it, *dangerous* disregard this staff showed for the public when unnecessarily *locking their door* thereby forcing everyone, including those with appointments, to wait outside in temperatures that ranged between *98 and 100* degrees. While the foyer and entry hall remained empty, there was only a shallow brick alcove by the doors where you could try to avoid the blistering sun. Even there, my heart rate was pounding while my body tried to adjust to the heat. There was even an amputee outside with crutches. The reasoning the staff gave, when they bothered to, was they were 'short-staffed.' From a customer's view, there were plenty of staff, one of which was doing nothing but sitting in a corner complaining about her back and swapping recipes, and another who was just standing and 'overseeing' and periodically opening the door to ask if anyone had an appointment. I feel certain that person was senior enough that they could have been at a terminal or at least determining what each person was there for. For example, at the Cary, NC Avent Ferry location, even during COVID when everyone had to line up distanced outside, a DMV staff member remained outside and walked the line, triaging each customer. Some were able to go home because they didn't have the right documents with them. At this location, however, I watched as a lovely young woman who had waited in the scorching heat for over an hour, was finally allowed inside to be told something to that effect. She lamented that had she known, she might have avoided that. There were two open terminals where staff could have been at least attempting to assist people, even if they needed to ask other staff for guidance. Regardless, human beings needed to be inside air-conditioned space. They made no effort to e.g. take their number and let them wait in a car with the A/C running, nor to allow people inside. The number of people waiting could have been accommodated in the interior space, or family members accompanying them sent back to wait more comfortably in their vehicles. And it was not a pandemic distancing concern; those had been long ago lifted, and not a single member of their staff was masked. Once we were inside, the space was clean, and the staff who did assist us were for the most part cordial and professional. That is the only reason for the ** and not *.

The man who is working today July 20, 2020 at 1:15pm has a terrible attitude. I simply walked up and asked if you have to have an appointment and do they take walk ups because I didn't know, he shakes his head at me while telling me I suggest you make an appointment. And I told him, "I'm just asking a question." There was absolutely no need for all the attitude, if you hate your job that's not my problem but when I'm asked a question at my job I answer, without the attitude. I just don't understand it, work on the customer service especially when you're asked a question nicely, no need for all that.

However, it is not the fault of the two ladies who work there; I find fault with the state and not doing anything to fix a broken system. The two women who worked on April 7 did everything, from answering random questions for the people who walked through the door; performing on-road driving tests; as well as processing REAL ID requests. Both did it ALL with knowledge, patience, and kindness, three attributes lacking in today's society. Thank you for all your hard work and most of all for your kindness. I'm sure it's not easy dealing with multiple complaints on a daily basis when you're not at fault. Hopefully the state gets it together sooner than later. (It will take a Biblical event to have everyone processed with REAL ID's by May 7, 2025 when the resources are nonexistent.

I chose Wendell hoping it wouldn't be as packed as the DMV's in Raleigh & I'm soooo glad that I was right. We arrived around 4 pm as walk-ins. It's located in a small shopping strip. It's super small but very quick. We got there and there were 3 customers ahead of us. We were quickly checked in & given a number. Within 2 minutes, Mrs. Johnson called us to her window. She was very nice and efficient in handling our request. I brought a million documents to verify his identity, etc. but she didn't need them. We were in and out of there within 10 minutes. I was very glad that I finally got this done & I will go there again if I ever need my license renewed, etc. Check their website before going to make sure they can handle whatever you need. Not all offices handle all things DMV. I highly recommend this location.

With everything you have to go through to get a passport this should hold a little more weight than it does. You literally have to verify social , take a photo , mail your birth certificate to the federal government and then they send you a passport. Why is this federal identification that allows me to enter other countries and come back to my own country not sufficient to get a state drivers license or permit on its on It makes absolutely Zero sense. While the staff were nice especially the woman who helped my son the experience is always horrible. The State needs to step up and help as opposed to leaving this sector private. 2-3 months for a simple appointment at the dmv is ridiculous. Hire more people , build more locations !!!
