HORRIBLE. They screwed up my hair SO badly. I came in with high lighted, hair down my back, beautiful. I wanted lavender hair (it's quite popular and doable from my visual and investigative experience ) First off, they told me they could do what I wanted. My hair came out DARK BROWN AND DARK PURPLE!!! They did NOT give me any compensation... Told me they could fix it and I went In for a second appointment, and they made it worse. This company gave me NO compensation or anything for this!!! I have hair that is dark as shit and not even SLIGHTLY the color I asked for and showed them!!! This place SUCKS. Horrible customer care. Friendly staff, clean salon with pleasant atmosphere all positive and lovely on those things.,, All the stylists have been very personable and pleasant... seemed like they wanted to do a good job. Unfortunately, the hair services I've received have ranged from very good to pretty disappointing. Perhaps if you tried different stylists there until you found one that works for you... it could be worth it. The first stylist I tried did an ok job but color was too dark and my hair felt damaged. The second stylist I tried did a great job the first time, but, the second time I saw her, the color was great, but the cut was really not good at all. I tried a third stylist the next time, had no cut, and the color results were off even tho they had notes from the color used previously. ( I typically have a 2 color partial weave and just a simple trim with a little layering on the ends in back.) Also, it seems odd they appear to be an Aveda salon but cannot give points on Aveda cards for services and products purchased there... also it appears they cannot honor discounts, coupons or credits earned from Aveda. There are times when change is good. This was not one of them. Dosha NW was closed so I decided to give this salon a try. My hair is too dark and feels damaged. The cut is sad. I knew right away that the stylist was uncomfortable and unskilled. I should have read the reviews. Let me start by saying this is the only time in my life I have had to hold back tears at a salon before immediately going home and wetting my hair in an attempt to hide the damage inflicted on my poor hair. I went in for a cut and color with Tracy. I hate naming names, but I paid a lot of money to hate everything that was done for me. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and it doesn't even come close. The highlights are basically nonexistent, my bangs were jagged, my 'face framing' layers were basically just one awkward strand next to my bangs, and the cut is also incredibly uneven. I am beyond upset with what happened and I would highly recommend against going here. How they even have 3 stars I will never understand. read more

I am SO happy with how my hair turned out! I went in with only a vague idea of what I wanted and my stylist was able to take my ideas and turn it into exactly what I wanted. She cut and colored my hair, blonde with a couple of bright pink streaks. I don't often get a chance to pamper myself by getting my hair done and I'm so glad I was able to. I walked in last night to get an eye brow wax and was immediately helped. The place was clean, relaxing and inviting. The girl that did the wax took her time and did a great job. You get what you pay for. They don't just wax you up and tear off the strip like some Salons. They are awesome. I'm going back today for a cut. read more

I have been a customer of Dosha Beaverton for 5 years at least. I have always had a "Dosha/Aveda" experience when I get a haircut. The front desk personal are always friendly and the stylists I have had have always been friendly and conversational, done a scalp massage prior to shampooing or a nice one during the shampoo and conditioning and at times have been offered a hand massage while the conditioner rests. While asking appropriate questions about what I was needing that day and I always left feeling good about my cut and experience. Until my recent experience. My prior stylist had left which brings me to irritation #1. I called to check on the future appt I had made at my last haircut and had noticed there was only a cell number listed on the card where the appt usually is. I called Dosha and was told my stylist was no longer there. This was about a week and a half before my appt and I had not received a call from the salon to notify me of this so it was hard to get a time scheduled that was convenient for me. That explains the cell # on the card but I was still dismayed that 4 weeks prior it was known that she was leaving and it took me calling to notify me of such. Irritating. I go in for my appt with Paradise. I was greeted in a friendly way by one of the front desk staff that I had an appt with Paradise. The other gal standing at the desk looked taciturn and wasn't smiling. I went and sat in the waiting area and waited about 5-8 mins (I was early so no worries). Imagine my surprise when the unsmiling one turned out to be my stylist. Now if I was that person, I would have said something friendly at the desk and said at the very least hello and I'll be right with you and smiled. She greeted with no smile, did introduce herself as Paradise and that was about it. Never smiled once the entire time of my unfortunate appt. I sat in the chair, she ruffled my hair a bit and asked what I wanted. I explained that my prior stylist had left and that I usually come in about every 4-5 weeks for a trim. I stated I didn't like it too short, that I thought my hair was probably tricky to cut as it likes to curl on the ends, that I'm a nurse and need an easy no fuss style. She gestured to the shampoo chair, she washed my hair, barely. She barely applied conditioner if any at all-you can feel the weight of it and feel of it as they apply it and it felt like there was nothing being applied, nor could I smell the usual Aveda yummy product smell. Still no conversation. I'm usually a talkative person, but I thought I'm new to you and paying you, you should make the effort. She began with the back and trimmed it up, then the top, which she gave it a sharp part to the side which anyone else that has cut my hair just cuts and parts it at the end. This is where it turned into the most scary haircut I have ever experienced. I literally sat there wringing my hands beneath the cape as I watched her cut. She asked me if I wanted product (well usually after the cut they apply product and I told her what Aveda products I use at home and didn't use any of them). She asked me a few questions about how much I wanted off. She kept trimming up the sides more and more, asking me technical questions that I am not a professional stylist and can't answer. I am a nurse and start many IV's in a day-it would be like me asking a pt-"should I use that vein? do you think I should use a 22 gauge or a 20 gauge IV?" We sat there with no conversation at all other than her weird questions. After she was done cutting, she asked me if I wanted it styled. I was dumbfounded. Um yes isn't that what usually happens after you get a cut at a nice salon? At this point I was thinking I'd get a better experience at Great Clips. Then she started "styling" it with the blow dryer. I had mentioned that in the past, some stylists would do some dry cutting after to catch the fly aways that don't show up until its dry. She dried it the weirdest way I've ever had my hair blown dry. Then after as I'm looking at myself in the mirror nearly crying but holding it together she asks if I wanted it thinned. I have thick hair, and have that done from time to time so I was like hesitantly ok. That too was the weirdest way to thin hair I've ever seen and the length it took off was insane. I looked at my hair falling all around me. I looked like I had a bowl placed on my head and she cut around it. No style at all. She stopped for a moment asked if I wanted any more trimmed from my bangs and I said I'm done here (I'll trim my own bangs at home and do better), walked up to the desk to pay, they asked if I wanted to make another appt and I was like NO. I left nearly in tears-had to keep it together as I had a meeting in a few hours and I wanted to keep my makeup intact. If that meeting had not been in my future, I would have cried all the way home. I immediately washed my hair and attempted to re-style it when I got home. It looks really bad, not terrible. Worst experience ever. read more

Had a facial with Angie and it was fantastic! SO RELAXING- when I left I felt like I'd had a massage! Actually she did incorporate some massage into the facial which was lovely. I've had enough facials to know there are basically two types- the painful kind where they do extractions and smear burning acid on your face and the relaxing kind with lots of yummy lotions and hot towels and steam. This was definitely the latter, which is my favorite kind. My skin was hydrated and glowing when I left. :) read more

An overall rating of three stars is far to much! I have never been welcomed in this salon even if I was just asking about a service. The front girl is mad rude. I had a gift certificate and I didn't want to have to go down town, tho I love the Hawthorne and NW locations. I went in for a cut and color and it was a huge mistake! First she didn't cut anything. I have a lot of hair, long and very curly and she didn't even bother to get the dead ends off or do anything to my layers. She was "done" in less then five minutes. When I called her out on it she told me it wasn't as bad as I had thought. BULLSHIT! I wanted a dark but noticeably red Auburn..... This shit is purple!! I noticed it rite away and she kept telling me that it's very red it must just be the lights..... In the real world my hair is purple!!!!! And two weeks later it's still bleeding and the twit refused to fix it. Inragingly over priced for horrible service and a "master stylist" who can't do shit! If I had paid for this I would have canceled the charge with my bank the next day after she refused to fix HER massive mistakes. First visit today - haircut with Megan. Very pleased all around! I was able to get a same day appointment, and they were with me only after a short wait. I have curly hair, and few stylists have been able to style it curly after a cut without it looking too frizzy, yet Megan did a great job, both with the cut and the style afterward. I also have a sensitive head, and she did a great job with the scalp massage without pulling, and during the haircut was quick yet gentle and attentive. The cut looks great. Reasonable pricing for an Aveda salon. They do not participate in the Aveda PurePriveledge program for products - just FYI (and they were gracious about this as well - gave me a one-time discount on the product I bought as a first-time customer). But not a big deal. Friendly staff, clean facility, and a nice experience overall! I'll definitely be coming back for a cut with Megan. read more

I went to Dosha Beaverton for a gel manicure. The technician was polite and friendly. She told me I could just drop in anytime to have it removed...as a complimentary service. Since I had checked out the services page I expected it to be removal for a fee...so I asked her several time about the cost. I stopped in and the receptionist made an appointment for me to come back when they had time for removal and reiterated that if the nail tech told me it would be free they would honor that. Two hours before my appointment I got a voicemail from someone who very non-apologetically stated it would be $15. I guess the bad reviews were true about this place. read more

I totally enjoyed my visit to Dosha on Scholls Ferry. Lily, my stylist was so friendly and totally understood what sort of hair style I was wanting. And what was so nice is she didn't shudder when she saw my two inches of gray roots and long shaggy hair...overall a really nice, friendly salon. I am not at all happy with how my manicure turned out. There are spots with no polish, spots with streaks, and spots with bumps. I like my nails to look smooth not all jacked up. I have had places cost way less and did a way better job. I really want to think that Dosha is a higher end salon, but they're just not. I wanted to treat myself to some pampering but all I feel is regret now for spending that much money for something I want taken off. read more

I wrote a previous negative review and just noticed it had been removed. I emailed Yelp about the situation. I have been to this salon a few times and have never been satisfied. I will never go back. I last time I went a girl named Ashley gave me highlights. Never did she ask what color blond I wanted or showed me different shades. My hair turned brassy. I was clearly unhappy. The receptionist and Ashley tried to tell me it looked good and blonde. I have been highlighting my hair for 20 years and am quite versed in what a good highlight looks like. I literally went into Fantastic Sams last week and a lady there fixed it and gave me the color I wanted for a third of the cost. The first thing she said to me was " your hair looks orange". Please don't make the mistake of shelling out a lot of money going to Dosha because you think you will get spectacular hair because you are paying a lot. Will never return! read more

First let me say I have had my hair colored for about the last 25 years of my life, since I was a teenager. First doing it on my own, scary to think now, and professionally for about the last 20 years. Remember those bad at home dye jobs, where your hair ends up obviously uneven and even, gasp, shades of orange?! Yea, me too. And sadly this past weekend I paid a lot of money to have that type of bad hair ruining dye jobs done, only not by choice. And please note, this is not about the money, though yes, I do think my experience should have resulted in a bill of zero. I dont go to SuperCuts or lower end salons, I regularly pay $240 for a keratin treatment at another salon, and regularly pay around $200 for a cut and color. I have been going to this Dosha location for about a year, since my smaller hometown salon hairdresser shortened her work days, making Dosha, by my job, easier. And knowing they had decent feedback, and were Aveda salon, I made the tough change. I have been happy with my Dosha hairdresser until this past time. Sure, my hair is sometimes not the exact color I askedfor, but I know we all color and process differently, and it has always been good, though not always great. This past time however was my first time asking her to lighten me up all over. I brought photos and she seemed to think it was doable, and when I told her that in the past I have been too dark to go super light in one visit, and understood I may be able to be lightened halfway to my goal now, and the rest of the way next time, she said maybe, but seemed to think going all the way in one time would work. She suggested a color cleanse, some shampoo mixed with bleach process, and since I had never had this, and my hair wasnt full of dye, nor darker than medium brown, she said it was easy and would make going fully lighter best. Ok, I suggested my usual foils, which my old hairdresser used to lighten me, or lighter color on top and foils on ends, to get the ends lighter. She said maybe, but the cleanse first. Ok. I figured she knew what she was doing. She had no doubts, did not share any concerns or risks, and acted confident. Until she rinsed the cleanse and I was left with uneven tones, a growout line, bright orange ends, medium orange mid areas. Everyone in the salon was staring. It was hideous. She looked shocked, saying she didnt expect me to lift like that. But said the next step was color and foils and it would fix it. It helped, a little. She then asked me what I thought. In tears, staring at my brassy orange hair, I said no, cannot live this way. She said they had their hair color formula changed, and it was trial and error. Umm, really?! You tell me this after?! And charge me to be your guinea pig?! She said she could try toning it and more foils, this time lowlights. I said whatever will fix this. At this point the always rude and oddly snobby guy who claims to be the manager, Mishelle, comes over and doesnt empathize, doesnt offer sympathy or reassurance, but comes over from his Facebooking and messing around online (my salon chair was right behind the front desk where he sits), and he says "Oh,well, you are not happy but you signed a color release so you might have to live with it and come back another time to get it fixed"....umm, no!! I had tears in my eyes, this has never happened to me. And to be treated so rudely?! I have had plenty of not quite what I wanted or expected colors and cuts, and have had hairdressers be real and honest and say no, sorry, wont work....or ask other hairdressers for help....or even make mistakes and fix them, free of charge. But I have never cried in or after a salon visit, never spent 5 hours at a salon only to be charged and leave in tears with nothing close to what I asked for AND was told would work. I have never seen the look of crap I dont know what to do now in my hairdressers face....til this visit. And never have I been told things like "Sorry, I did not expect this"......"Our color formula was changed so this is trial and error" after she does my hair wrong...."I am not sure what to do"....."I dont know how to fix it, maybe have someone try a toner again"....I tried to call corporate to share this, and left a message. It is day 3 and no call back. Great customer service all around apparently...not!!! I have an appointment this Saturday with my old hairdresser to fix this mess hopefully, and after having 2 clients at work, who are hairdressers, tell me their thoughts on this and what went wrong, I wanted to share this experience. I will continue to do so, online, at work, whetever! This was just a horrible experience made worse by being treated like crap, ignored thru corporate, and charged for it all. Sad. read more

I received $180 worth of gift cards from my husband for Christmas. I called and requested a cut and color at the Beaverton location. I advised the person booking the appointment that I had a gift card. I also told the person cutting my hair I had received gift cards for Christmas to pay for my hair cut and color. NOTHING was said about restrictions. When I went to pay the overpriced fee of $140 for the service, the cashier would not accept the three cards, wouldn't even take two. She only would take one, stating only one card at a time could be used per service, per day. I was furious! Apparently there is fine print on the back side of the card that states this. Why would my husband spend that much money if I can't spend them to get a service??? He was never told about restrictions when he went to the downtown location to buy the gift certificates. This is what he was handed. I called guest services to ask for a refund on the two remaining cards and was told no. No where on the card does it say it's not refundable. This is the worst customer service I have ever received, especially from a business in Portland who prides themselves in being the best. I think not. read more
