What started as a quick stop after a soccer game turned into a great find. I originally just needed a place to charge my laptop since it was already late, but once we looked at the menu, we ended up ordering much more than planned. They have a salsa bar and I highly recommend trying them all--each one has its own flavor and they're all equally good. Another big plus: they serve lengua (cow's tongue). For us, that's always a sign of an authentic Mexican spot. The restaurant itself is spacious, and I really liked the booths with tall dividers between tables. It adds a bit of privacy and makes the space feel more comfortable. There's also music playing in the background which gives it a relaxed vibe. A big thank you to the staff who went above and beyond. Since all the tables near outlets were taken, they kindly let me charge my laptop by the register. Small gesture, but truly appreciated. We have eaten here several times. Most recently, we went with a large group of 16 people at peak dinner time. They were able to quickly slide together tables to accommodate us. We notified them that we would have 3 checks... no problem al all. I would give SIX stars to the staff because they always exceed expectations. We ordered a variety of items (including vegetarian dishes, kid's dishes, etc.) and everyone was very pleased with the quality and quantity of food. This is typical "Americanized" Mexican food and a good bang for your buck. By the way, they do give you chips and salsa. But here's a tip: order a side order of queso dip. It is warm & creamy and a relatively large portion that you can share with others. It's nice to dip a chip in salsa, then the next chip in queso, then back to salsa, and so on. I'm being a little rough here; could live with 3.5 stars but, for a place this nice in a "high-end" location, the food could be better. Minor issue: salsa is watery. Tasty, good spice level, but just puree form. Main issue: I ordered the molcajete. It was decent but lacked the ingredients to make it really worthwhile... It had very little queso fresco on top and neither nopales or green onions that I could see. (Maybe small pieces cut up but I think good malcajete has the full onion and larger pieces of veggies, plus more cheese). The side plate was fine, although their rice was pretty plain. The tortillas were very average at best....a bit hard (and no choice of flour or corn). It is a nice place, with full bar and good selection of draft beers, and the menu is very big with lots of dishes beyond the standard stuff. In that location (Turkey Creek), you should get superior dishes and I found it very average. Three stars means a place is OK, and that's the best I can say for it. read more

A basket of warm chips and a small bowl of salsa arrived shortly after we sat down at our table. The salsa lacked any heat so we ordered pico de gallo and added that for more flavor. The server was attentive, and our plates came soon after the margaritas arrived with slices of limes and oranges on the rim--a festive touch. My chicken chimichangas with beans and rice and a small salad topped with sour cream, guacamole and tomatoes tasted delicious; the chicken moist and tender. I asked for queso on the side yet ate little because of its watery texture. The server brought me a second side of queso, yet it was as watery as the first. My spouse ordered a chicken quesadilla and seemed pleased with his meal; so chalked full of seasoned meat and veggies that he ate only half and took the rest home. The restaurant is close to home, and overall the food is good and the prices are average in comparison to similar establishments. read more

As a transplant from California we came today after seeing a review saying this place was like So Cal Mexican food. I would not agree. Customer service was good. The pollo asada street taco was tasty and the best thing we purchased. Steak burrito and steak fajitas were flavor lacking. Salsa brought with the chips is better than most spots around because it wasn't just tomato paste but could have had more spice or cilantro. In the end, food wasn't bad but wasn't a reminder of So Cal Mexican food. read more

My oh my. Times have changed. Dos Agaves which used to be one of our favorite go to's is off our list. The presentations are not sharp as they formerly were. The batter on the Chile relleno is now thick and doughy, not to mention 1/2 the size as before. The chicken and beef fajitas are extremely dry and overcooked. The past two times the chips have been stale. The taquito shells are greasy, soft in the middle with over crispy ends. The last few margaritas we've had were so weak we've had to order a tequila shot on the side. Adios Dos Agaves. We wish you well. It's been nice knowing you. read more

Brand new to the nearby area and was looking for a Mexican restaurant to try. Having moved here from the desert southwest, we are a bit biased with our tastes. While the food here is very good, it is very difficult to compare it to Mexican food from out west. We did enjoy the dip sampler, and my chicken enhiclada was good. I will say the best thing here was the Patron Perfect Margarita. Now THIS is how you make a proper margarita. No sweet and sour mix or odd add-ins. I will happily come back and spend the extra not this drink with chips and salsa or chips and queso. One other thing that topped everything off for us, was as we were getting ready to leave after paying our bill, our kids spotted the mini claw game and bubble gum machine. Not having any cash or change on me, I told them they could not play. Our waitress then Mary snuck up behind us and provided my kids a couple tokens to play the claw machine. This place is our go-to for local Mexican grub. We have gotten crunchy tacos, salads, tamales, and burritos. During COVID times we have only been doing carryout, so I won't knock them for soggy taco shells...those are always much more awesome in person. We really like their queso, salsa, burritos, and the ground beef. I like the taco salad and the taste is amazing, but there is hardly any lettuce....so don't order this if you actually want something green or want that extra crunch action that the lettuce provides. My husband got the fajita taco salad with shrimp this last time and was bummed there were only five shrimp included and tons of runny liquid from the fajita veggies. He said he wouldn't get his salad again. Great flavors, though. Most importantly, we were able to order margaritas to go. Thought that deserved a stand-alone statement. Enjoy! read more

A friend recently took me to Dos Agaves for a birthday dinner. Neither of us had eaten here & were in the adventurous mood to try some place new. The best part of the meal -- the margaritas! Very good and a generous pour of tequila. We started with the requisite chips & salsa, and my friend also ordered an avocado dip. The chips and salsa were nothing special, but I enjoyed the chunky avocado dip. For our entrees, I had an enchilada combo, and my friend had a steak burrito meal. Both were good. The breading on the Chile relleno was soggy and the salsa was watery and bland. Weak and bland margaritas, but impressive volume. Love this place. Carne Asada tacos are the bomb. Tons of meat. I go here once a week.

My husband and I had eaten at this restaurant once before and the food was amazing. Tonight it was terrible. I ordered carnitas fajitas. Over half of my carnitas was pure fat. The rest of my fajita skillet sat in a pool of grease. After removing the fatty pieces of meat, there was barely enough meat to put on a tortilla. I didn't even bother. I also asked for no tomatoes. The fajitas came out with tomatoes. I ended up eating rice for my meal. I left the restaurant in a bad mood. This meal ruined my entire evening. I will not go back again. read more

I've got to say this restaurant has the best chef. I order the pollo de la Mexicano with refried beans and rice. It was the best meal I've had in a Mexican restaurant ever. My hubby also said he was impressed with his dish also. Grilled chicken and shrimp with broccoli and mozzarella cheese. Also the chips and salsa was great. Dos Agaves is much like most Mexican places in Knoxville. Here is what sets them apart. Probably the best salsa I have had in years. Its not thin. The chips were warm. The portions will definitely leave you full almost on the verge of stuffed. If you're a light eater than be prepared to take some home. The pricing on margaritas are very reasonable. More so than most places that serve alcohol. The food is hot and full of flavor. We really enjoyed our visit to DOS Agaves and would return without hesitation. My only thing that I thought was a little weird was the California burrito. Traditionally these burritos are made and folded so you can eat it by hand. This particular one was made swimming in salsa verde. While it tasted fine if I ordered this again I would ask them to skip the sauce. read more

Food is always excellent! Staff is friendly and fast to serve! Overall restaurant could use serious cleaning, especially booths between customers. I don't like having to wipe the last persons food from seat prior to sitting down. I wish all places would truly sanitize between customers. I know I would enjoy the experience much more!
