Cult clothing has moved around several times since I first moved to Birmingham, first swapping its…read moremodestly-sized original store for a much larger unit nearby, and then migrating to the Bull Ring when that opened. While they've always stocked the trendier end of alternative and skater fashion, as the years have worn on their gear has grown more generic while the prices have continued to climb. There are racks and racks of shirts, trousers and shoes in this latest incarnation of the store, but you'll be lucky to find anything that doesn't have the Super Dry brand name plastered all over it. I don't know about you, but I prefer my alternative clothing to have a little less of a uniform feel to it. The clothing is pretty high quality and there are some really funky designs if you're willing to have a bit of a dig through, but at the prices Cult charge you're better off shopping elsewhere for your skater/surf wear.

The new store is average really. Split over two levels, I've always found the clothes quite close together and it quite difficult to manoeuvre around the store. The staff at this new store (whether it's the change of premises affecting their mood, or new staff) seem to be much ruder than before, and in my experience have been quite reluctant to assist! The range of clothes, however, is quite good, and the store is a decent size. A bigger shoe department might be beneficial. At the moment it quite lets the shop down.

Since it was refurbished last year, River Island has really gone up in my estimations! I never…read morereally shopped in there until last summer as I found it to be a bit naff but it had improved so much I keep on going back. The layout of the shop is far better than before and there is plenty of space and choice of clothing. The whole environment feels a lot more stylish than before! The service is also exemplary! Every member of staff I have came across in there is wonderful, they're clearly choosing the right people for the job. They always go out of their way to help you and are also really friendly. The quality of the stock is better than before and it's all reasonably priced. It also seems to last a lot longer than any other high street brand which is perfect for me as I don't just mince about in clothes, I really put them through their paces and often end up having to replace many items which I haven't had to do yet from River Island! All in all, every time I leave this shop it is with a smile on my face!

I never used to shop in River Island when it moved into the Bull Ring, no idea why but the clothes…read morejust weren't for me and perhaps the layout wasn't conducive to a good shopping experience...anyway last June I think it was there was a refurb and the floor space seems to have doubled & every time I go in now I need everything I see! The layout is fantastic with a modern, light, cool interior. It's not too hot unlike its neighbour Topshop. The service is great, the assistants are helpful & chatty and the whole package makes for an enjoyable shopping experience. It's my go to for well priced & made leather (& pleather) jackets & bodycon dresses to make your eyes pop! Well priced & often there are discounts!

Great place to go if your looking for a cheap new outfit. The changing rooms are very small though and there is only a few available but the store never gets too busy or overcrowded so you dont have to wait long. The store is well stocked, tidy and clean. I find the staff very helpful also.

It had a bit of a garden centre feel to it - it felt more like a garden/outside store than actually inside the "Home" The staff seemed a little rude, they appeared to be talking and taking photos at the front of the store - I'm not too sure why but they were doing it for quite a long time, during my time around the store and even when I passed it within the mall. They seemed to be paying no regards to customers coming in/out and just got in the way - they couldn't have picked a worse position to stand in... you'd think they were being managed by Jose Mourinho. Regardless, they still had some pretty interesting items and the store did look good. They had fresh flowers too but you had to buy them as a set and for a "no thrills" advertised florists, it still was a little premium. 3*

Primark offers a wide range of clothing and accessories for every age; male and female! This location is really good with numerous floors of hidden gems. There are also cash tills all over the store, so if one queue is super long, just head to another level and find one that isn't. The customer service here is either really great or good. But I've never experienced anyone who didn't care about me or was rude. There are no toilets, but the Starbucks across the way might let you use theirs. Some hidden seating for The Spouse... but best to go alone or have them meet you towards the end of your shop. I tend to get carried away with all the cheap and discount deals and could be there for hours!

First level you walk into is womens, a large selection of clothes here. Bigger than some of the other clothes shops around. Up stairs is mens, which is spacious, very spacious. But seems to lack substance as there feels like they could have a bit more stock on show. River island drew me in the other week but i find myself feeling dissappointed with not much choice. The shoe bit is actually ok, but again could have more. But overall it is a good shop. If not a bit samey in the realms of topman, h&m. The real differences is that river island is quite expensive again like topman.

That being said, I can normally tolerate a quick look around New Look once in a while. Firstly, head to the sales if you can. I've had fantastic dresses, tops and accessories for a few pounds before (if you time it right) and the quality is considerately better than some of the other "cheaper" clothing stores in town. I have New Look clothing for years before and it has worn and aged really well compared to comparable wares. This particular branch of New Look has a reasonable range of ladies fashion wear on the ground floor as well as undergarments, accessories, a large shoe range and a small range menswear on the top floor. If you're looking for that pair of New Look shoes that has appeared in a magazine or on a fashion conscious friend, you're likely to be able to find them at this branch. As a top tip - they also allow you to order in and collect here. If you find something you like in the sale (or otherwise) and it's not in your size, you can order and pay online and they'll ship it to New Street. That way you can return it straight away if you don't like it or it doesn't fit.

The quality of the clothes is good, not amazing, but a dress will last you the season, if not more. If you're a fan of ASOS, but don't want the poor quality clothing (unraveling strings, popping buttons, argh!), head to New Look. Unfortunately, the Tamworth New Look is located in Ankerside, a shopping centre of decrepit years and downtrodden shoppers. The ceilings are low, the lighting is poor, it's dirty and parking is a real pain in the booty. But, if you need New Look, you must brave these trials. The staff are just staff -- there to help you find a size, but mostly busy hanging up clothes and popping their bubblegum loudly. The shop is a bit small, so it's hard to work your way around on a busy day, with lots of squeezing past stuffed rails of frocks and stepping out of the way for buggies (pushed by mums with an average age of 12). The sale section in particular is quite large, but really messy and stuffed in. Also, there are only three changing rooms, so expect a wait if you're there at a busy time. It's worth checking stock by phone before you go if you're looking for something in particular, as it is a smaller shop, so you may need to head to Lichield or Sutton for what your wardrobe needs.

I think they do well in translating the looks so they are wearable for the masses of all age and size. I also like the fact they do this at a good price. Plus they cater for Maternity, plus size and teenage, with shoes, accessories and underwear all in one shop so you can really get a complete outfit in one hit. Their basics are great too - good quality leggings for a fiver and long sleeved tees for £6. great. This particular one is a nice size - not the biggest I have seen.. but easy enough to get around even with a buggy. Its always well stocked and looks well looked after. The staff are friendly but not overtly 'in your face'. Ooh and clean spacious fitting rooms. I also love their xmas gift range - and their selection of novelty pjs/nightwear is probably one of the best at this price range. My favourite item in this shop yesterday was the 'spongebob' boypants - had to have 'em.
