HORROR SHOW OR COMEDY ACT ? Both Booked me for 5:00 but called me to push back to 9:00. At 8:00 they moved me to 11:00. Kinda late but I felt bad for Mark. I waited in 99 restaurant and got a call just before midnight. Here is the killer! You have to park in a dark alley between 2 mills and many homeless panhandlers are nearby. I saw a rat running along the building which grossed out my girlfriend. I had to talk her out of the car. This is crazy!!! He has a disgusting office layered with years of dust on top of copy paper boxes piled high crushing them. He leaves to the bathroom every 15 minutes. As if that wasn't bad enough he kept falling asleep while working. Several times I stomped my foot to wake him. No not kidding. Read other reviews. At one point he fell asleep with his hand on the keyboard. Not zzzzzzzz although it should have been. We contemplated tiptoeing quietly out the door and shutting the lights off. Couldn't agree more with the mad scientist adage. Working with him is like what I'd imagine it would be like working on a project team with Steely Dan and maybe Albert Einstein. (Except seemingly less well organized.) You spend your time wondering what the heck (feel free to insert alternative language) is happening and come out the other end with elegant math and a pile of unexpected ducats. He's extremely creative and personable. His office is a black hole of time and compressed clutter. (Bring some Dostoyevsky as you will have plenty of time to finish it.) Customer service is, shall we say, unique, running the gamut from nonexistent to quite helpful at times. Great folks though! Not for the faint of heart but well worth the kraaazee ride. read more

This is what you get if you work with Mark Dorman and his office from someone who has worked with him for many many years (facts only); 1. No callbacks. - The office is so poorly managed that you will rarely get a callback or a response to an email. More often than not, the calls disappear into a void and you never really know if anyone is handling your business. 2. Prepare to be late. - With everything. Every filing. Every extension. Every appointment. Every response to a letter from the IRS. Every inquiry. Every. Single. Thing. This office doesn't care who you are, or how long you have been a client of Mark's. Punctuality, client service, and organization do not exist here. 3. Prepare to go through the yearly cycle of "Mark is great" to "Never again"- Mark knows taxes and is great when you actually meet with him. But that feeling is quickly replaced by feelings of frustration, regret and anger, due to how they operate as an office and business. You can have a great tax filing with Mark, only to see it all fade away along with the return $$ due to the late file fees and penalties. 4. Mark is a nice guy and does know taxes. Mark Dorman is the "Tom Brady" of Taxes. He is a brilliant, hard working advocate for his clients. No one knows the tax laws better than Mark. You must be prepared for your meeting as he will basically do your taxes with you in his office. When you leave, you are done for another year. Fair warning....he habitually runs 2 plus hours late. That is the way it is. He now has a flat screen TV and Keurig in his office to make your stay more enjoyable. Think about it, you spend a half day at Mark's office, you have had your taxes done by the best. Seems like a good time investment to me. read more

Yes, he is never on time... BUT.. a small price to pay to work with the wizard of taxes... been going to Mark for almost twenty years now... and I have NEVER once left an appointment with him disappointed.. he knows his stuff... he's especially good for those that have complicated and/or messy tax situations.. which would be me... im actually worried about the day he retires.. at first you might be a little concerned, but trust me.. this man knows his stuff and will give you the best return possible.. I call Mark the mad scientist of taxes. He's genuine and super knowledgeable. If you want extraordinary service, Mark is your man. He's been doing my personal and business taxes for over 10 years now and has always done a great job for me. He does have a ton of clients and it will be tough by phone or email. Your best bet is to call up, make an appointment and show up with your documents. Once you are in his office, you'll realize why he simply can't devote time on phone or email. But you'll get everything done on your appointment and walk away wondering why you've waited so long to use him. His fees are very reasonable and fair too. read more

First, the bad things: Mark is always behind in his appointment schedule. Always. If you book for a certain time, expect that he will be running late. Maybe very late. Plan for it. Work around it. Bring a book to read. Call the office an hour ahead of your appointment to see where he is at. Secondly, you have to be prepared. Generally, the way Mark works is: you get one appointment, you bring everything, and you do the taxes together with Mark. When you walk out the door, your taxes are (pretty much) done. So, you need to prepare on your own. You need to figure out what documents and materials you need before the appointment, collect everything together and bring it with you. Mark won't really hold your hand through that. If you can live with that, I think you will be very happy using Mark. His understanding of taxes is very deep. He knows everybody in the local IRS offices. He knows all the ins and outs. He can help you make the tax code work for you. After your taxes are done, Mark will stand behind you if/when you get audited. A *ahem* friend of mine got audited, Mark went with him to the audit. When they walked out, the IRS owed my friend money. I'm not sure I would recommend Mark if you have a simple tax return, or if you need a lot of hand-holding. But if your taxes are complicated, and you need a smart and creative person to guide you, Mark is the guy to see. read more

Mark is pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. The office is rude, inconsiderate, and flippant. I don't mind when he runs late. But year after year they cancel on us at the last minute, after we've gotten everything ready, taken the day off of work, made arrangements for children, etc. It's as if you don't count at all. They just blow you off and can be very rude about it. Then they can't reschedule you until close to the end of the year, and act like they're doing you a big favor "letting" you come at all. I honestly don't know where they get the nerve! One year we were audited and we were told the "he doesn't return calls during tax season". We had to send a certified letter in order to get a call back. We've been with Mark for close to twenty years and they treat us very badly. We only kept going because we trusted him. After being called up at the last minute and cancelled yet again, we've decided to go somewhere else from now on. read more

He is notorious for being several hours behind his schedule, so call before you come for your sppointment, but it's worth the wait. I've been coming to Mark now for about 10 years. What everyone else has said it dead on. - he runs late. About 2 hrs on average. He has a tv now so that's good I suppose - his office is in a dungeon of a warehouse and has been ever since I first came here... I kind of like that though. It tells me Mark is about saving cash - he knows his $h1t! Be prepared, have your stuff, be organized and be thoughtful about the previous year... Mark will do the rest Tip: try to be an earlier appointment. He gets tired as the day goes on and although you still get A+ service he's only human. Like I said... Try to get an earlier appt. Absolutely UNPROFESSIONAL, was "stepped to" by his wife. She was swearing and everything. They DO NOT respond to emails or calls, ever. Came by physically for the 3rd time to have a single question answered. She got upset and told me "we don't need clients like you". I've been a client for many years, will no longer. She was disgusting and Mark should heavily consider better representation with his front desk staff. Almost escolated to needing to call the police because she was so out of control. They admitted that there are A LOT of people unhappy with them and their service. Folks being audited with no response from Mark or his office. Folks needing answers and just being ignored. Horrible and awful customer service, especially with suck important matters at hand. read more

I agree with the 1st review. He is the Mad Scientist of accounting!!! His hair is disheveled because he works something like 14+ hours a day around April 15th. His office may as well be in a dungeon of a castle but it isn't. It's on the 2nd floor of old dungy warehouse. Let's get one thing straight. I'm reviewing what he has done for me personally and for my business. He is bar none the best accountant I ever had to save me money period. His secretary on the other hand (his wife sometimes fill in and I'm not talking about her) is not top tier. During tax season she will fill in 2 clients at the same appointment. Will show up when ever she feels like it. Why Mark keeps her is a mystery. During tax season, your appointment is never on time. The reason why is evident when he thoroughly goes through your life to save you money. Isnt' that the bottom line? Don't get angry when you have a 2 o'clock appt and the 12 is there still waiting. If that type of service is important to you, goto H&R Block. If you are making a tax appointment, just make sure you do it quickly because spaces get filled up fast. I just called them today and it got me worried. I have my first appointment in April 2012. I called to ask one question whether Mark Dorman would represent me if I there was a query, and the lady who picked up the phone did not have the patience to answer my questions. She felt that I was taking too much time of her time, and was very impatient. She felt that I was accusing them and she put down the phone abruptly right in the middle of the conversation. If she does this now, what happens if I have questions later after the filing. Do I have to fight for answers. This got me worried and I have second thought about them. -N read more

Yes, appointments run late, and yes, sometimes a couple of hours, However, as we all know, most appointments at any office, be they at the Doctor, Lawyer, Hair Salon, Car Dealership, Repair Shop, etc. all run late... most times... The UP-SIDE is that Mark goes above and beyond to actually know who you are upon returning the following year, acquainting himself with your unique situation as well as all the new savings opportunities allowed . He asks the right questions in an attempt to get you the best return. He is always prepared, you can be too by calling ahead to check the time status. read more

Mark is the best CPA. After telling my friends about him, they came up from New York to go to him. He is very knowledgable. My friends even ammended their past taxes and got a lot of money back. His fees are reasonable and he works really hard. He will see you on weekends and evenings. I will never go anywhere else! Even my mother from NC is using him now! You won't go wrong with him. I have gone to 3 cpas in the past few years. They all over charged me and did not have my best interest in mind. Mark is the best!!!! read more
