Whenever I am craving for dessert, I always make it a point to drop by Dorissimo along Maginhawa, known for its selection of cakes and pies that remind me of my mom's baking. I think there is nothing unique or new about Dorissimo's desserts, but what I love about them is the fact that they taste fresh and homemade, unlike other store-bought cakes that taste obviously assembly line-made, and overwhelmingly echo the preservatives or extenders added into the batter.
Maginhawa is always filled with students and youngsters, and whenever I feel like a little peace and quiet when enjoying my post-dinner tea or dessert, I like to duck into Dorissimo because it always has a hushed and subdued crowd. Coming into the store, you will be directed to the cakes du jour, and the staff are always ready to give their suggestions . You will also be offered several bags of tea from their selections, which they will then brew in a pot of your choice.
The cakes pair well with their teas. I especially enjoy the mango cheesecake, which is delicate and light. If there is anything I don't like about cheesecake, it's that annoying sticky mouthfeel. Dorissimo's cheesecaky is silky and smooth. The pistachio sans rival is also restrained and not too cloyingly sweet, making it a perfect accompaniment to a mellow cup of Earl Grey. read more
