Great hotel and restaurant right on the Lake with the best location in Hallstatt…read more While our room didn't face the lake, it was large, had all the amenities that you would want like large towels and toiletries, and a super comfortable bed that had me wishing for a nap the second we walked in. Several others in our group got rooms facing the lake and some had balconies! We had lunch out on the dock in the back with was a great place to enjoy a glass of wine, a salad and to just wile away the afternoon. Make a reservation or you will be disappointed, although they do give preference to people that are staying in the hotel which is how we got to have lunch out there. There are umbrellas that they will adjust for you if the sun is too intense. I also ate at their indoor restaurant and had fresh trout that was just delicious! We also had a local dessert which was like pieces of dough and applesauce, but whatever they call it- I hope you aren't cutting back on carbs cuz it was delicious! Seehotel Gruner Baum definitely has the best location and views in this little town!

It's been around in the same family since the 60's and it's a small but beautiful hotel. There are some 14-16 rooms and a restaurant. We had booked for a long weekend package which includes breakfast, two normal dinners and a gourmet dinner. The rooms are fabulous and spacious and well appointed. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Mr and Mrs Maier run the place and Johanna is the head chef at the restaurant. She used to have two Michelin starts and 19 Gault Millau points and was at one time the highest rated female chef in Austria. I believe they have given all that up now and run and nice luxurious place with decent food. Breakfasts were very well done and you basically chose from a menu and things arrived one by one. Dinner was a daily affair and whatever was available in the market or at the hotel. Food was generally good and I enjoyed most of it. Some of it was very bland and the vegetarian choices lacked some creativity. I would come here again. It's cosy, beautiful and has great friendly service. A highlight in Filzmoos. You can just book to come and stay one night or book packages which include dinner and so on. You can also just come here for dinner if you so choose. Tip: try their huge selection of schnapps, excellent :-)

The included breakfast lunch and dinner were always delicious, and overall the stay was very affordable considering food, lodging, and access to the pool were all included. We also got full body massages during our stay which were excellent. The location is accessible only really by car, but as long as you have a car it is not far from Berchtesgaden or the Königssee. Would recommend and I hope to return someday!

A beautiful hotel that is privately owned and does an excellent job with customer service. I wouldn't say that the hotel is "luxurious" in the fancy sense of the word --- but it is spotlessly clean, charming and beautifully located in the mountains just above the town of Berchtesgaden (an amazing place in itself - check out the stunning Nazi history of the area). The prices here are not cheap, but you are paying for the view and food - most of the room packages come with food. The breakfast is wonderful -- seriously, in Germany do any of the hotels serve bad breakfasts? -- being a wonderful assortment of cheeses, smoked salmon, cold cuts, croissants, breads, pastries, eggs, bacon, different sausages etc.. Make sure to check out this place for dinner as well. Even though it's a little cliched, this was the place that I FELL IN LOVE with Käsespätzle. Luscious bitter-ish Emmantaler cheese, crunchy onions and chewy egg noodles. It was really good. The meal plan includes a table reserved Just for You (!) for every meal, wonderful service, and a lovely multi-course selection. Highly recommend.
