Sitting on the balcony, right on the lake, with a glass of wine. I told my husband that I never wanted to leave! We also had dinner at their lakefront outdoor dining area and it was fantastic! I had the trout fillet with a lemon sauce that was out of this world. It was probably swimming in the lake one hour before I ordered it. Seriously, one of the best pieces of fish I ever had. It came with baby potatoes that were cooked with butter and parsley. The people there are wonderful and very helpful, they don't provide refrigerators in the rooms, but when I brought a bottle of wine from the supermarket back to the kitchen, they were happy to chill it for us in the refrigerator downstairs. If you ever get to visit this wonderful place, do stay or have a meal there, it is really special.

I chose the steak, green beans and baked potato for my entree. For dessert they had creme brulee, fruit and a small scoop of ice cream. Very delicious and satisfying. Be aware though, this part of the hotel does not have air conditioning, but as it had rained a bit while we were there (late August), the room felt just perfect. Charming B&B in Picturesque Hallstatt…read more There are two small sections of Hallstatt - the old historic center and the newer (suburbs) right next door. This hotel is in the newer (suburbs) section right near the funicular that takes you up to the Skywalk and Salt mine. You can easily walk from one end of town to the other in about 15 minutes, so location and proximity to all the town has to offer is fantastic. And being just outside the tourist center is a plus, as far as I'm concerned. The hotel has parking if you're driving a car (which we did) and quaint, comfortable rooms with free breakfast included. But what set this hotel apart from the rest and exceeded my expectations was the home-cooked dinner prepared by the owners. Although you must reserve in advance and is available on a first-come-first-served basis, this was my family's favorite meal in Austria and it made our short stay in Hallstatt immensely enjoyable. We felt right at home thanks to the charming hospitality of the Salzbachers.

They simply told us to park in a paid lot that costed us unexpected $20-30 for 2 days - atleast a heads-up would've helped.

The hallway area looks very traditional but the rooms are sparse and full of pine and white. It was simple but somehow also cosy. There is just one restaurant that is within walking distance. However, the room has a covered balcony with a small table and two chairs. It was just adorable. I enjoyed having a cup of hot tea this morning with a variety of teas to choose from. Interestingly there were two restrooms-one with a small sink + shower and one with a really small sink + toilet. There are 3 separate radiators so it's a great place to do makeshift laundry. Cons: A lot of morning light The online website we booked through noted the restaurant has a free breakfast. This is not being offered right now due to construction.
