I was really torn about reviewing this place. I received a birthday gift from my colleagues for this place so we booked to go and check it out.
It's been around in the same family since the 60's and it's a small but beautiful hotel. There are some 14-16 rooms and a restaurant. We had booked for a long weekend package which includes breakfast, two normal dinners and a gourmet dinner.
The rooms are fabulous and spacious and well appointed. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Mr and Mrs Maier run the place and Johanna is the head chef at the restaurant. She used to have two Michelin starts and 19 Gault Millau points and was at one time the highest rated female chef in Austria. I believe they have given all that up now and run and nice luxurious place with decent food.
Breakfasts were very well done and you basically chose from a menu and things arrived one by one. Dinner was a daily affair and whatever was available in the market or at the hotel. Food was generally good and I enjoyed most of it. Some of it was very bland and the vegetarian choices lacked some creativity.
I would come here again. It's cosy, beautiful and has great friendly service. A highlight in Filzmoos. You can just book to come and stay one night or book packages which include dinner and so on. You can also just come here for dinner if you so choose.
Tip: try their huge selection of schnapps, excellent :-) read more
