I'm glad I listened. It just happen to be a sunny day in the Warrington area outside of Manchester so I sat in the traditional outside french patio. I ordered my usual le moutard ou baguette. For 10 pounds I ordered a two course meal starting with beef carpaccio with salad and then the main plate was braised Scottish beef with a nice red wine mushroom sauce. My friend had a nice pomegranate couscous dish with asparagus that was absolutely the best cous cous dish I've ever had, so much flavor and the texture was just right. The food was surprisingly amazing. It would be insulting to my french chefs to say Le Bistrot Pierre on this day was in Paris quality but it was great Parisian food type quality and presentation.

Stepping in was picturesque. A family with young kids who knew their table etiquette laughed with the sharp looking waiter while sipping wine. The decor was beautiful, with natural stone walls, laden with vintage French iconography. Approaching the podium the smart looking waiter courteously invited us in while offering to take our jackets. Very polite..a great start ,:) The wine menu was fantastic, including other spirits and imported strong beer at an average price. Flipping through the giant The Times sized menus did not leave much room..they however contained french classics..beef bourguignon, Coc a van , steaks burgers, seafood salads etc. Settling on the drinks we were asked if we wanted olives or anything..we instead requested the flat bread for £7 which came with either ham , chicken, mushroom and parmesan or goats cheese with courgette. The food seemed to take a while to come but we were provided French stick to nibble on while we waited. When it arrived, it looked good..but when I picked a piece up..it was flacid. The bottom was soggy like the dough had not been cooked...the goats cheese covered the unpleasantries and I was too hungry to argue. The main, again took awhile to arrive. My parcel of sea bass landed eventually with a side of veggies..Ripping the parcel open exposed a nice bit of fish but in a greasy sauce and over cooked tomatoes. My colleagues beef bourguignon looked good, with a rich red wine sauce but no knife was provided. Luckily the beef was tender enough to eat with a fork. Too full for dessert we finished with coffee. Which was good..overall a great ambiance, good service when they served you..but felt forgotten about sometimes and the food..well ..Cafe Rougeish? It didn't match up to the decor..and pricey for what it was...New chef,?

We decided to try the Village Bakery as we had never been in before, despite visiting Lymm quite regularly. From today, this will be a "must visit" every time we come! The young ones were entranced by the amazing display of cheeses immediately on entering and then saw the even more compelling cabinet of cakes and pies. We insisted on a "proper" lunch so they chose meat pasties; we had steak pies. The two girls finished off their pasties with smiles. The steak pies were the sort one only usually dreams of; first bite releases steam and a fantastic smell, then the rich gravy runs down one's fingers. The pastry was perfect and the meat succulent. We then understood why, on a rather cold Friday, the Bakery Cafe was so busy!

Open for over 40 years and still owned and run by the Sexton family, this bakery is the type every…read morevillage should have. With an onsite restaurant, deli counter and Internet access Sexton's has many valuable features, which is probably why they still hold a monopoly on the Lymm's fresh bread supply. The reason they're still going strong after so many years is because of a consistent attention to detail. Whatever your order you can rest assured the staff will do whatever they can to accommodate your needs and make you feel as comfortable as possible. Serving a range of cheeses, meats and various organic and free-range products Sexton's offers the dedicated foodie a delicious range of products at affordable prices. The only downside is that on weekends the kitchen can be a little slow but this is only due to the large number of walk-in customers and pre-orders the staff have to contend with. Ultimately, the relentless hard work of the Sexton family ensures that whatever happens you'll leave satisfied.
