Built circa 1499 and I'm sure it's been bringing joy ever since. Doppelwendeltreppe means "Double Spiral Staircase" in English and it is known as "The Stairs of Reconciliation", because even if you go your separate ways, you will ultimately reunite. The stairs are located on the grounds of the Graz Burg in what is now a public building. There are plenty of signs directing you to the stairs. It only takes a few minutes to climb and view. No ticket is needed and there is no entrance fee. Please be respectful of others when visiting since the area can be "tight" at times.
For something so minor, it sure does bring a lot of joy and admiration. Definitely worth a visit!
Graz overall is a very walkable town. The stairs is easy to find and there is plenty of parking nearby if needed, but no parking on the grounds. read more
