Amazingly, this year was the 52nd Annual Echo Park Community Parade which was a testament in itself for anything to last over the half-century mark! With all the gross gentrification, societal shifts, and obvious change in the landscape, it was heartwarming to see the community come out and show support during this holiday time. I attended this event several times over the years (plenty of my youthful years was spent in the area with family and friends), and it always stuck with me albeit not something that was a permanent fixture on my calendar in my adult life. Would this recent occasion continue my adoration for this annual procession of good spirits and togetherness!?
EVENT
As hokey as you would imagine for this Echo Park neighborhood parade to be (its theme was "Holiday Wishes"), it had a nice assortment of representation from the surrounding local communities such as Atwater Village, Los Feliz, and Silver Lake. Here was an abreviated pictoral look at the festivities which had over 50 participants:

SERVICE
Other than the volunteers dressed in baby-blue t-shirts who handed out 2020 calendars https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=wxcxb1ANGL42cZO_DO95wg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and answered any questions you may've had, there wasn't anything else needed. You had your random street vendors who sold holiday paraphernalia and snacks (there was a vendor who did mad business with freshly-squeezed orange juice and cranberries!) or handed out leaflets. As for the local businesses, hopefully all events were communicated with them leading up to the parade. Sadly, as far as I saw none offered any parade specials.
PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance)
Thankfully, I lived in the area and was real familiar about the parking situation in general, so I parked past the parade route and took a leisure stroll to the main stage area at the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Echo Park Ave. Otherwise, because at most a mile of Sunset Blvd. between Vin Scully Dr. and Alvarado Blvd. was closed off for the parade as well as all smaller side streets that led into this section, you either parked at nearby paid lots, at parking meters off the route, or if you were lucky enough and lived close by just walk it.
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
Outdoors standing on the sidewalk as you walked the parade pass you by. Dress in layers in the morning and peel off each layer as it gets warmer, wear comfortable shoes, and patronage local businesses for your breakfast. Enjoy the sights and sounds of bands, dance troupes, and more - 'nuff said.
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
The Echo Park Community Parade was a joy to watch... as well as people-watch. Don't expect this to be the Rose Parade filled with corporate sponsors; rather, expect to see local businesses, dignitaries, community activists, and more. It was a pet-friendly event and gave you the opportunity to support the community. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00). And, no cash or credit cards (AMEX, baby!) needed for the actual parade! 4.0 STARS
