Stopped through the drive thru on our way to hike at the state park nearby. The gentleman at the window was pleasant and prompt. Classic donuts. Fresh, flavorful, lots of glaze and filling! This place is popular! Before 12pm most of the things were sold out. We managed to get a chocolate glazed donut and an old fashioned cake donut. They were both amazing. Chocolate glazed was soft inside, just the right fluffiness. No guilt at all eating the whole thing by myself. Old fashioned cake donut was delicious! It was a pretty good experience (donuts are donuts in my book). The staff were properly masked but the other customers weren't. I recommend the eclairs filled with Bavarian cream! I got a chocolate one and my father a vanilla. The custard was smooth and the dough satisfying. The raspberry filled donut and apple fritter were pretty standard. All I've wanted since coming back home to the lake, are the French longjohns pastries filled with silky custard. I have looked for 15 years. Get to Donut Palace first thing in the morning for the freshest, most amazing doughnuts you'll ever eat!! Usually when I get there later in the morning (after 8pm), they aren't nearly as soft. The donuts are to die for.....simply amazing. I live in Iowa and have a couple who come this way and bring them to me. The ONLY problem I have is their closing hours are so irregular. They sell out and just close. To often I go to return to Iowa, stop and get some to take home and they are already closed.. It's so sad for me!!!
