Duck
Rob B.

Delicious food, we loved the Donna Lobster Roll, small but exquisite! Also the Moreton Bay grilled bug was a masterpiece! The duck with pancakes was beautifully displayed and the duck was nicely prepared. The slicing of the duck and cucumber was not traditional from our time in Beijing. Also the chicken in the Kung Poa was not properly diced. But the biggest detractors were the unfriendly greetings, and terrible seating. Our table faced the street and was far from enjoyable. The reception and hospitality were cold at best, but the food was delicious. If they do takeout, I would return.

Tonight was their first night being open and I am so excited I got to experience it! I read online…read moreabout the opening and the infamous chef and crew so I knew to make a reservation right away. They are easily bookable on Opentable or you can call in for a reservation as well. The restaurant is located on Gold Coast Highway so parking can be a bit tough, but I was lucky enough to secure a spot. Once we got to the restaurant we noticed there was seating both inside and outdoors. Some of the seating was regular tables while other was high tables/bar chairs. We checked in with the host and were told to wait a moment while he cleared off a high table outside. On my Opentable reservation I mentioned that we had a special occasion however the host had not seen the note. We asked if it were possible to get a regular table and preferably indoors. After a few minutes he gladly escorted us to a nice table. TIP - If celebrating an occasion I now know to call the restaurant to confirm. The host gave us a quick run through of the menu and then took our drink orders, which was just water. Very shortly after our waiter came by and gave a more in-depth explanation of the menu. We decided to order the Prawn Hair Gow, Half Roasted Duck with Pancake and Hoisin, as well as the Dong Po Style Pork Belly. A few minutes after ordering a lady came by (I believe the manager but could have been a waitress) and asked us if we had ordered drinks. I expressed that we were fine with water and she asked if we would like some bubbly to celebrate our occasion. My partner decided to get some and I mentioned how I do not drink. The lovely lady said she could make me a mock-tail that I would enjoy so I decided to try it out. Such sweet gestures! The mock-tail and bubbly (champagne) came out after a few minutes. I have no idea what was in the mock-tail but I believe some sort of watermelon and cucumber juice? Either way it was incredible! So for those that do drink I can only imagine how wonderful their regular cocktails are. Our food came out after a bit of a wait. First was the dim sum which was so warm and had wonderful texture. Next was the pork belly which was within an incredibly delicious sauce. Finally we got the duck which just as amazing as the rest of our food. Throughout the entire dining experience there wasn't a moment where we needed to ask for more water or anything else. The hospitality was simply superb! Every few minutes someone stopped by to check up on us. When it came time for dessert the lovely lady came by to take our order. We were quite full but decided to order the Chocolate Custard Bao with Sesame Ice Cream as that sounded so unique! The dessert came fairly fast and was even more delicious than I could have imagined. After our meal the lovely lady (I really wish I got her name) came by to check up on us and ask about our dining experience. We couldn't rave enough about how wonderful it was. She said that she took care of the drinks and dessert and she hoped we had a great time celebrating. Honestly I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars as they truly deserve it. Everything was perfect from the food to the hospitality. We were in awe of how incredibly welcoming they made us feel and we are so excited to make this one of our regular spots!

I had such a pleasant experience dining here! This place is great for lunch and dinner!…read more I came here with my cousin and her friend. I ordered the roasted pork laksa and a mango frappe. The roasted pork laksa came in a huge bowl! It was very delicious! The noodles were just right; not soggy, and not too hard. The flavour of the laksa tasted authentic! It was just the right spice. I wasn't a big fan of the roasted pork. It was very chewy and hard to eat. The mango frappe is a mango smoothie and it was pretty good; however, I don't think it was worth the $6AUD.

They don't really feel all that spacious though, because this place was packed! I took this to be a good sign. The wait staff were snappy and efficient. No messing around. Our meals came out in good time, in huge servings- bowls bigger than your head style. My friends who are frequent travellers to all parts of Asia squealed with delight saying the roti canai (($9.20) "tasted just like Borneo." My kung po chilli chicken ($11.50) was the perfect heat. My friend who ate the prawn noodle soup ($13.50) gave audible sighs of pleasure interspersed with "this is sooooo good" while consuming it. For drinks, I'd recommend the taro milk tea ($3.30). It's light, sweet, milky and compliments most meals fantastically. It's true, they don't have credit card/eftpos facilities, however, there's an ATM in the general area, so there's no troubles. Also, for your information, the bottl-o is just across the road.

I had the roast duck with noodles, which I actually enjoyed, other than the fact that it was a bit salty. The duck, though there wasn't that much meat, the skin was surprisingly crispy. I really enjoyed the duck, despite the soup base being salty. The noodles were just ok, but I did like that the noodles came with a generous portion of bok choi. I also tried the fried tofu, which was freshly fried, though it is more of an appetizer than a main meal. When we were there, two birthdays were being celebrated, so they played this cheesy soundtrack of children singing "Happy Birthday," - which, if you want to embarrass your birthday friend, this is it! It became a little obnoxious, but the friendly service made up for it.

Superbowl is without a doubt one of the friendliest, least pretentious and most casual restaurants in Fortitude Valley, plus, the food is great! Some of my favourite options on the menu are the curry puffs, salt and pepper eggplant, shredded peking beef, and tom yum chicken hot pot. If you or a friend are celebrating a birthday, whisper in your attendant's ear as you arrive for the full Superbowl experience. In the many times I've eaten there, my experience at Superbowl has been overwhelmingly positive. If noisy restaurants or slightly intoxicated patrons offend you, best steer clear, but if you have a group of friends and a few bottles of wine in tow, it's the perfect place to visit.
