He was attentive and compassionate for our situation. Down East management should realize what a great human being he is. I recommend Down East New Bern to anyone who wants a new home Blessings to all Ronda Rodriguez

Get it in writing by contract or get screwed. Mother purchased a 980 SF manufactured home five…read moreyears ago from Down East Homes and loved it. She upgraded things before and after her purchase. In April, she went into Assisted Living in her hometown in Indiana. To keep her funds under the Medicaid threshold and sell quickly, the house was sold to a third party for $30,500 for payoff and a little left over to help with moving her. Initial purchase price was $75,000. After a week, the buyer realized the house did not meet the wind zone requirements for his county. The situation was explained to Down East Realty and they purchased the house from the buyer for $28,500, then turned around and posted it on Marketplace for $65,000 without the cost of moving the house being included. Once house removed we expected the property to be cleared and cleaned of all debris. After the house was moved, they had left behind the generator, which would have been stolen by an unauthorized party from the site if a neighbor had not intervened and questioned the men present. The mover's people showed up to collect the generator. The house movers said they don't clean up the site, the company (Down East) usually sends a cleaning crew. Down East was texted about the site and the condition it was left in. Down East rep came out and looked at the site and texted "Went to the site last week, only the concrete footer in the ground, that's not something we do!" I asked him about cleaning the site. He stated that "if we had put it in the contract, we would have cleaned up the site." For DOWN EAST Homes, our courtesy to leave the home in place and allowing the additional 6 weeks to move the house meant nothing. Attached are before and after shots.

The mattress in 2 of the bedrooms were worn and most likely decades old. The sliding doors had no locks, only pieces of plastic or wood in the track to secure them. One of the kitchen cabinets was so broken it had just been screwed shut to keep it from falling apart. Most of the cabinets were worn and needed updating. The "panty" was a dumping ground of the nastiest items, and not usable as a pantry. One window was labeled "broken" and "do not open", most windows were hard or impossible to open and missing screens. There were NO blinds or curtains on any of the upstairs windows. The chair pads on the dining room chairs were so worn and thin they did no good as a cushion. The couches were faded and worn to the effect that you just sank in them with no support. Coffee tables and dressers were worn and chipped and even had been covered in contact paper, which was peeling off. The dryer took 3 cycles to dry. But the absolute worst in the entire place was the carpet on the 32 steps running throughout the house! It was clearly old, stained and smelled awful! It was a very chemical, ammonia smell that just permeated the entire house! Most likely cat pee. There is no excuse for a rental home to have carpet in it that clearly needs to be ripped out and thrown away immediately. We had to go and buy boxes of scented carpet powder to put down on all the steps just to make it tolerable for the week. When relaying these issues to the management company, we got a text back saying, "We are sorry to hear of your disappointment. We hope, despite these concerns, you'll have a great stay." That's all! I would not rent from them again. The pictures on the website and condition of the home are certainly not up to date. And you can't even experience the smell through pictures! In the future, I will never again rent a property from a management company that will not put actual renter reviews for properties on their web site. I just hope future considering renters will be smarter than me and look up Yelp reviews first.
