The receptionist desk needs to really organized themselves when its super busy because waiting 2-3 hours even though you have an appointment is so unfair to the patient. Never come here on a Saturday because you will be there for hours since they don't have appointments and takes walk-ins. I end up as no. 19 . It took about 1hr for the reception to sign u in and confirm the visit And another 1hr for another RN to measure ur body weight and blood pressure. After that it took another 1hr to do the ecg and Phlebotomy(taking blood sample for lab) It is 11am before I was in line for the doctor. And I was told I still have 3people in front of me... She's a good doctor, but the receptionists are a pain to deal with. They also charge for annual checkups, which should be free. Edit: adding more detail: Dr. Shong seems to have the patient's interests in mind. She generally doesn't tack on tons of extra items and costs. She sometimes gives me free "samples" that have enough doses to cure minor issues. You can bet many other doctors will send you an invoice with 4-5 expensive line items for the same scenario. It's the rest of the office I don't care for. They charge for free annual check-ups, even though I specifically asked for just a free annual check-up, and even though I didn't ask any questions whatsoever. This has happened more than once. Wait times of 30 minutes, with an appointment, are not uncommon. Example of interaction with receptionists: I asked a radiology office to fax some records to Dr. Shong's office. Later, I called Dr. Shong's office to confirm whether they had received the records. The receptionist, without asking for my name or other info, and obviously without checking, asked me to ask them to send the records again. This is despite the fact that it takes them less than 60 seconds to find records, which I know for a fact because she found them in less than 60 seconds after I convinced her to check. Another example: Phone rep who answered sounded high. I tried to give her my email address, but she couldn't understand me. So, of course, I tried using the NATO phonetic alphabet. A as in Alpha, B as in Bravo, C as in Charlie. She obviously didn't know the NATO phonetic alphabet, and worse, she couldn't understand the concept. Wasted 15 minutes on something that should have taken 30 seconds. Whiskey tango foxtrot. Of the other doctors in this office, some are good and some are not as good. Extremely long wait times. It can be between 3 to 5 hours to see MD on Saturdays. Unless there is a language barrier and you must see a MD who speaks Chinese, I would highly recommend to see another Doctor. My current wait time to see my PCP at NYU is 10-15 minutes. I have changed my PCP. The front desk staff is not helpful at all. I had requested medical records to be faxed over but it was never done. They can also be dismissive. If you are making co-payments and premiums for health insurance, you deserve to see medical professionals who treat you with respect, take time to listen to you and are respectful. I found much better service elsewhere and I would highly recommend others to seek another PCP. read more

I would typically give this place 2 stars but I bumped it up to 3 bc of Dr Zhu. He is patient, thorough, and answers all of my questions. Last time I saw Dr Shong for a checkup she was rushed and not thorough at all. She didn't even listen to my lungs. This place is like a typical Chinese doctor's office. Expect a wait, and ride receptionists. They have to deal with rude old Chinese ladies all day, so what do you expect? Make the earliest appointment possible for a weekday morning, or weekday night. Dr Shong is quite nice and will take the time to explain your illness, but if you don't come prepared ahead of time to ask her specifically what your other concerns are aside from whatever analysis report she gives you back from tests, she will rush out the room and never see her again! I often felt rushed and it got worse as she got more bookings. It felt like an assembly line than a health provider. just in and out. Not what I expect after long 1-3 hour waits. And then the feeling of disconnect between her and the specialist she would send me to. As if she never received their report or findings just to be on the same page. I found her and her staff to lack thoroughness. Some doctors at least call to let you know how your test went as a followup! Pros: * Easy to get referrals * Easy to get prescription drugs and Loads of samples and coupons * No Appointments necessary. Walk-ins anytime but expect to wait a long time without a scheduled appointment, 1-4hrs. * Good Bedside Manner. Nice and friendly. Straight to the point. * Will give you her cell# to call for quick emergencies, and she will answer off duty which is nice cause I did need her a couple of times and she came through quite nicely and patiently. Cons: * If you have additional questions, need to get them in quickly else she's gone before you know it. Expect to be rushed especially if overbooked which she is all the time it seems. * Staff a little rude and lack Spoken English. Quite a language barrier. They speak Chinese mainly. So expect to repeat yourself quite a lot and explaining what you mean or just get a blank stare and a nod and be totally dismissed or asked to sit and wait to see your doctor. In other words, the brush off! * Long waits even with an appointment. 1-2hrs Conclusion: Dr. Shong is quite nice doctor and accommodating to patients personal requests but I need a little more than just hey doc, can you fill me out a prescript for viagra since my high blood pressure pills or affecting my labido. Which I appreciate by the way but I do need more! LOL! :) So I'm currently looking for a new real doctor who will take their time with you and is more thorough meaning is up to date with all testings from all other specialists they've sent you to, and is able to make you feel like their on point on your entire medical history as your family health doctor should be. The office is always overcrowded. I was really dizzy the other day and had to sit there for almost 3 hours before a doctor could see me. Once I went in, I realize that Dr. Shong was there and instead a new elder male doctor was on call. Sometimes, even if you have an appointment, you still have to wait over an hour. Agree with Jonathan C., Dr. Shong is a good doctor, but the receptionist are horrendous. They wanted to charge me a $20.00 copay for seeing the lab result with Dr. Shong, when my insurance doesn't require me to pay a copay at all to see my primary physician. Other times when I call to ask for referral or refill, the receptionist would remind me that since you "don't have a copay" why don't you come in and see the doctor first. Yeah, I don't need to pay but I don't want to waste my day waiting for Dr. Shong to attend me if it is not necessary. Then they would counter offer that Dr. Zhu doesn't require a long wait. There is a reason for that. The staffs and Dr. Zhu give me an impression that this practice is a Medicare/Medicaid mill milking the non English Speaking immigrant. But don't get me wrong, Dr. Shong is not like her staffs. She wouldn't ask you to see the result if everything is normal. But Dr. Zhu would ask you to go see him no matter what. To me, Dr. Zhu is just passing time in the practice until it is time to retire. If he were in his prime, he would have set up his own practice instead of picking up Dr. Shong's random loose patients. Even with the long wait, people still pick Dr. Shong. That tells a lot. In addition, Dr. Zhu's name is not even on the front door name plate. I would not recommend this practice if you don't have the time and patience to deal with the staffs. WORST PCP EVER. Front desk is extremely rude and will yell at you. I was told I could come today and when I got in they told me they're not going to take me. After explaining to them that I called this morning and was told to come, they finally let me see the doctor. They also yelled at me for apparently not paying a bill from years ago. The clinic is located in the center of Flushing, most of patients are Chinese, and non English speaking, it's hard for them to see the English speaking doctors, which is the main reason to make this place packed. You will spend an hour for seeing her 2 mins, and she will do blood testing and temperature taking again even it was done by her nurse 5 mins ago. don't expect her give you any accurate answers for the questions you ask her. Then after 2 mins she spent on you, before you make sure there is no more question, she jumped over to the other room for another patients, so you have to wait for her to show up later again. If the older patient doesn't fully understand her, be ready for her insults, she can be very nasty. So far, I haven't seen how good for her medical skills, probably she s just good at study, finally graduated from the medical schools and became so called "DOCTOR", but I have to say she s lack of basic manners of being a doctor, no patience, no sympathy, and no care... Would not recommend this place to anyone. I've never came in without having to wait more than 2 hours for an appointment or a walk-in. Starting with the people at the desk, they are disrespectful over the phone (screams at you), they are not professional, act all high and mighty when they're in a bad mood. People who visit Doctor Shong are majority old patients who visit the doctors just for prescription and referrals. Now to the doctor, I've been in a lot of chronic pain cause of two disc problems and I was clinically diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It took more years than it should've to diagnose me because the doctor would always assume I'm over-exaggerating my pain. Now that years have been wasted not treating my pain, I've tried everything and nothing is helping. In addition, if I'm waiting 2 hours for an appointment, you should not be rushing me. She is great and nice doctor. She was my family's primary doctor. She explains very well. She will call you back if you have more question. However, the receptionists are worst; unorganized, lost my physical tests, and screw the appointments. All my profile has not inputted in the computer, so the replacement doctor was confused with my condition. You need to speak Chinese, otherwise they don't really understand you. You must have an appointment, time to wait and patient to wait in very long time. I waited 3 hours even I have an appointment. Appointment time does not mean anything, however, it means you will be served at the day. One day, they lost my appointment and I waited 8 hours, I thought I would be sleep over. I have been a patient for many years with Dr. Shoong when she was still n Chinatown office. She is a a nice doctor. I have just read the review about her. To be fair to her, she is very good and has patience. She took extra time to speak to you if she believed you needed it. Do come prepared when you come to see her. Ask the right questions and have all the reports in hand before you see her. Familiar with your own conditions and have your questions ready. On other hand, the office should be more organized and efficient. Staff is overworked and computer system needs be updated. Appointments are overbooked and way too many walk-in as well. read more

i took away 2 stars. one for the unfriendly and unknowing front desk staff. the one in the glasses mid 40s, she is really rude. she was not providing information at all and did not know even the basic procedures. everyone knows to get proper blood work would mean no food in the morning. she said i could eat, thank goodness i didn't or else i would to have came back again. julie another staff member was very helpful on the other hand. and the wait is RIDICULOUS. if u walk in with no appointment expect to be there for 3 hours especially on a saturday. i went in at 845 am and was there until a little after noon. good job hiring the new dr! the new dr is funny and relaxed. dong hong shong is also very great and thorough. she will sit with u until u understand what is wrong with u and explain every detail which is probably why the wait is so long. great doctors poor staff. read more

This doctor is just a general doctor. A typical doctor making money off of Chinese people who speak little or no English in Flushing. The place is always overcrowded. The receptionists are rude and they hate their jobs. Not to mention the nurse who gave me a hepatitis shot she was beyond rude. I have been Dr. Shong's paitent for 10 years. I only do annual check ups and maybe once a year to see her when I am sick. But recently I also switched my parents to see her. Her office is a typical Chinese doctor's office - crowded and appointments fully booked usually. However, I prefer her over other Chinese internal doctors because first of all, she answers most of my questions (I always have at least 5 questions after her diagnosis). She also pretty careful and cautious. And, another good things her office have: most of the staffs work there (6 staffs at least) are friendly and helpful. They are also willing to take my message over the phone and have someone or doctor to reply me later. The nurses who do the blood draw are experienced. I never had problem with them. This is THE WORST doctors office!!! They do not keep their appointments. Even though you make an appointment early in the morning, somehow someone always slides in before you. They tell you to write your name and come back later, still expect to wait an hour or two minimum The girls in the front desk will never let you talk to the doctor. Guess it's good for the doctor but not good for patient care. You will be taking care by 2 assistants (not sure if they are even license in anything, I'm know for sure one of them is not a physician assistant) then get 2 minutes with the doctor. I've been a long time patient since I was a child. The service gets worst and worst every year. Now I'm in my 20s and working and have my own insurance, I REFUSE to go there. They are nasty to my parents, but my parents still take the abuse because they're chinese speaking only. If you expect good patient care, go someplace else!!!
