I recently visited Don Leoncio cigar bar in New Orleans with the intention of purchasing a couple of cigars. Unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. While I understood that certain rare cigars would come at a premium, I was taken aback by how overpriced the majority of their selection was compared to other cigar shops I've visited around the world, including in Dubai, Paris, Costa Rica, and various U.S. cities like New York, Atlanta, and Chicago. What made the experience even more frustrating was the customer service. After expressing my concerns about the pricing, the owner not only dismissed my feedback but also removed a rare cigar from my purchase without my knowledge, essentially telling me I wasn't welcome to buy it because of my complaints. It felt quite demeaning and, frankly, unprofessional. Overall, this was a disappointing experience, especially considering the high standards I've encountered elsewhere. I hope the shop can improve both its pricing and customer service in the future. So while strolling along Canal we noticed a "Cigar Bar" and thought, yes let's! As we are frequent visitors of Cigar Bars when traveling. The door was WIDE OPEN AND PEOPLE OUTSIDE SMOKING CIGARS WITH 4 gentlemen inside. I noticed everything was covered in dust and asked my husband if he felt this was ok? I've always gone by my gut! When we started entering the humidor one of the gentleman yelled "Lady we ain't open!" Well clearly not for two caucasians. Steer clear unless you are a "member". Great location. The well-stocked humidor has ample selection, and is long and narrow. It can be frustrating to navigate when the manager follows you in to hover over you. Whether he is trying to be helpful or just trying to prevent theft, it quickly becomes stifling. Horribly inflated prices, but one should be expect that, given the great location. The entire place is a nice linear open lounge with full bar at the rear. Ample large-screen televisions are on every wall, for watching the game. The place is Open-air in the front, weather permitting, which broadcasts that delicious cigar aroma out on the sidewalk. On the several occasions I have visited, I find that the music is usually cranked up to near nightclub volume, which pretty well derails any attempts conversation. read more

Enjoyed a nice Rocky Patel cigar at this bar. The bar has comfortable leather couches and the entrance is open to enjoy the natural breeze off the river. The service was good as we were helped finding our favorite cigars. read more

During my trip to New Orleans I had big plans to hit a bunch of cigar bars and enjoy some good smokes. Honestly there aren't as many cigar bars as you might think but I did find Don Leoncio. I made two visits and Easy & Brandon were very helpful with the cigars and quick pourers and gave a decent size pour as well. I didn't travel with many other whiskey/cigar people but that didn't matter because the staff are friendly and knowledgeable conversationalist. Make sure you check your bill before paying!! The bartender added his own tip of 20% to our bill. When we asked for the check after buying one cigar and ordering two drinks, he tells us the bills is $35, so we give him our credit card. Then brings the bill for $7 more after adding his own 20% tip. I changed it to a $3 tip prior to signing and contacted American Express after reaching out to Don Leoncio the next day. I have been visiting this cigar shop for YEARS and have enjoyed my experience until my trip over Mardi Gras weekend. My friends and I were enjoying cigars and made four different cigar purchases on the same day during the same visit. The first transaction was $16.50 for a $15.00 cigar. My usual but thought nothing of it. The second transaction was $24 for two $10 cigars. I questioned the guy who was checking me out on the pricing. He claimed it was taxes. The third transaction was 3 Crown and Cokes, usually $7 each this time $12 each. The forth transaction was $28 for the same cigars purchased for the second transaction. I understand slightly rising the prices for Mardi Gras but I believe they were adjusting the prices at the discretion of whoever was checking you out at the time of purchase. I've been to better cigar bars in the past. This one is pretty open and they are a bit rude and the drinks were okay but nothing to rave about. They had the game on Saturday for allstar so that was a plus and they were closed to the mardi gras parade which made it a spot for a lot of people coming in and out. They were letting ppl use the bathroom and then they stopped and stated for customers only after it got a little crazy. Their cigars are a bit on the pricey side for the ones that they wanted to charge more for, the ones that are normally $25 they wanted $50. They blame you for crap you do not do, their "Friends" leave without paying and YOU get in trouble for it. I told them I'm BUSY I don't have eyes in the back of my head nor am I watching the door 24/7, I'm BARTENDING. But they still blame you anyway , then they tell you to be sure you get the payment from them, but if you tell their friend in ANY manner that you got in trouble because they walked out on their tab, then you get chewed out again. And this is gross but I'm saying it.. I had one of their friends basically corner me and ask me why I wouldn't have sex with him ever and another say very nasty things and refer to a Thanksgiving pie as ...... well... you get the idea. And I still have THAT in writing or message because they were stupid enough to text that. When I complained they started giving me a hard time, retaliating against me, taking photos of me secretly when they thought I wasn't looking, eventually let some female customers push me and when I tried to defend myself have one of their "friends" push me all the way from the bar area out of the front door and tell me to NEVeR come back.. This is a cool little joint. My husband is a cigar smoker so we popped. There were cigars for sale, there was what appeared to be a fully stocked bar for adult beverages. Like they're all saying, good, conveniently located place to relax and finish the day. It is what you make of it. Friendly, knowledgeable owners, nice humidor (some are saying "limited", I'd call it "selective" ... if you can't find something you like here, you're probably not into the best Dominican brands). Very decent, if slightly pricy, bar. Flavored (or not) Dominican coffee brewed and to go (try the nutmeg). Felt at home though just visiting. In the words of an aficionado from my home state: I'll be back. Update: got the nutmeg coffee home and found it completely flavorless. So bad I had to throw it out. I've recently been to a number of cigar lounges and though I am not an afficianado, I can say the atmosphere of this lounge left a lot to be desired. We walked in on a whim and while they have a good but fairly small selection of cigars to buy, a bar, a lot of seating, and good gifts for your family or friends, the look and feel of the place to as like a run down veterans club/strip club. The sofas were extremely old and worn and the further back you walked into the lounge the more it seemed like a strip club. The "VIP" section had a 200 minimum though I can't imagine it's been used in a long time. It was also frustrating because we walked in with an outdoor cigar that we had and though we wanted to have a drink and smoke they said no outdoor cigars. Most places don't mind as long as you purchase something like a drink. Frankly I've never had a problem going and not drinking with an outdoor cigar. This is definitely a place for the older afficianado crowd or a tourist at a nearby hotel just trying to get a quick puff in. This is why we have Yelp though! read more

This place needs to make sure that they treat everyone the same. Certain people should not get preferential treatment. Our group came in with drinks from another establishment, bought cigars and no one in management said anything. Our party enjoyed ourselves for 2 hours and bought drinks from their bar as well. After about 2+ hours we decided to get one more drink from the place next door and when someone came back with another drink all p a sudden management had something to say. That's funny, why didn't they have something to say when we walked into the establishment 2 hours earlier if that was a policy?! In addition in talking with a local, who had a water bottle filled with liquor, no one said anything to him about bringing outside food or drink into the establishment. Sounds like preferential treatment if you ask me. Sad that in 2015 establishments still have these practices in place.
