They were addictive, it was hard to not eat all of them. They would also be a good dessert - reminiscent of beignets, but with less oil and sugar. For main I had the churrasco skirt steak with rice of the day. It was a generous portion of steak topped with a delicious churrasco fragrant with garlic. The rice was well seasoned and perfectly cooked texture. Server was enthusiastic about the food and providing suggestions. Though I suspect everything on the menu is delicious. Guests at all the tables around me raved about their meals. Indoor seating is cozy and comfortable. There's a small bar with counter seating.

It wasn't too busy, so we were able to chat with our server about local places to check out. We ordered the Can-Can pork with the rice and beans. Soooo good! Also, my drink was beautiful and tasty! Definitely stop in and see them if you're ever on the island!

Just as we were ready to give up and go, we were seated in the main restaurant at a table up front. It was an inauspicious beginning to what ended up being on of the best meals we've had in a long time. The host, who became our waiter recommended the sausage in wine and fried cheese appetizers to start. Fresh sausage and local cheese, both were beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. The guava sauce served with the cheese offered an amazing counterpoint to the saltiness of the cheese, which was not breaded-making it a much healthier option. We shared the pork medallions stuffed with manchego cheese and more of that amazing guava sauce. Pork was fork-tender and just melted in my mouth. The guava sauce made it perfect. The Arroz con Gandules (traditional Puerto Rican rice) was seasoned perfectly and a great compliment to the pork. We were also given a taste of the mashed plantains which had a bit too much garlic for my taste, not letting the taste of the plantain shine, but at this point, I just wanted to move in and never leave. Dessert was a house-made pistachio cheesecake that finished the meal perfectly. And all of this was served in an awesome and eclectic space, with over 70 pieces of original art, mostly by local artists, which chronicled the history of Guayama. I smiled all the way back to Caguas.

I ordered the chuletas can can with tostones and my girlfriend ordered the rellenos de pana and the chorizo. She loved her appetizers. They were delicious. My chuleta was good but not great. It was a little bit over done for my taste. This cut of meat is difficult to cook because you have to get the chicharrón crisp without over cooking the chop portion. I enjoyed my meal it was seasoned well, but like I said just a tad over done. We had a good experience and would probably dine here if in the area. The seating for the restaurant was essentially outside dining but it was really nice and well decorated with lights.

We ordered a $4.00 passionfruit juice that was so sour that even after diluting it with water, it was undrinkable. I got the $22.00 mofongo with garlic shrimp and extra garlic butter, expecting flavor and comfort. Instead, I got a mouthful of dry disappointment. The mofongo had a gritty, sand-like texture that I still feel in my throat an hour later. The shrimp tasted like absolutely nothing, no garlic, no seasoning. The onions were so dry they literally cracked apart. The only saving grace was our server. She was kind, attentive, and even apologized for the food. But despite everything, I paid $22 for an inedible mofongo and $4.00 for a sour juice (yes I know passionfruit is not sweet, I make my own fresh passion fruit juice, so I know what I'm telling you) meal, no manager came to check in, and nothing was offered to make it right. Yes, I still left a tip--because it wasn't the server's fault. But I will not be back. Cool ambiance doesn't make up for bad food and zero accountability.

This place is right on the main highway, it's huge and packed so plan accordingly: we arrived before noon on a Friday, so we probably got one of the last parking spots (there's a guy managing or charging in the parking lot? not sure) and the line was manageable. A large group and some buses showed up after us, so it got really crowded! Anyway, we had a short line, had no idea what we were doing to order (I should have researched better) but pointed and nodded, and with some help from the nice people in line, ended up with two huge platters of pork, rice and some other sides - way more food that we probably needed. The food: delicious! I would say our #2 favorite meal in Puerto Rico, after Marmalade (but that was more than 10x the price!) The pork was delicious, juicy, flavorful, and the crackling was to die for! I wish they would package those and sell them - probably only good fresh, though. Rice and sides were adequate: my son tried to be healthy and said the salad and potatoes were ok, but you're really there for the pork. Cost etc.: we paid less than $50 for 2 enormous plates of food and some sodas. It was enough for 3 lunch servings, plus enough leftovers for 2 people to have the rest for dinner - so I guess 5 servings? The wait was not bad early on a weekday, but they must get incredibly overrun on weekends. It is entertaining to see the pork cooking on a spit (please don't come if you are vegetarian and sensitive to such things) and watch them hacking away with machetes. My husband wondered if the machetes are the same once used for sugar cane!

This restaurant is just one of many open-air roadside spots that serve lechón along "La Ruta del Lechón", aka the "pork highway" in Guavate. We got a half pound of lechon along with Mamposteao, which was delicious and filling. The pork skin hit a level of shatteringly crispy texture that I have never had from non-fried pork skin. We came later in the day, which unfortunately meant that the pork was slightly dried out. However, the texture and flavor of the lechón was absoutely delicious. It's a "build your own box" style restaurant where you choose which sides you want on the dipslay. Besides the mamposteao there were also other delicious-looking sides such as plantains/mofongo, beans, fruit, etc. There's a small parking lot outside the restaurant- one where the rule is you can only back your car into your parking space. Interesting. Would definetely come to try lechón here again!
