You walk down the steps and through the gift shop to store your bags and coats in free lockers. There are several rooms where you see artifacts and documents. They're set up as if real scenes. And some of the artifacts are interesting, like the Danish palace as, the silver champagne boat, and the golden egg with hen. Several floors to walk through. It got very busy as the day went on. It consists of four identical classical palace facades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard (Danish: Amalienborg Slotsplads); in the center of the square is a monumental equestrian statue of Amalienborg's founder, King Frederick V. You can see the changing of the guards ceremony daily around 12pm. The guards march from Rosenborg Castle at 11:30am through the streets of Copenhagen to Amalienborg. Guard post replacements are a conducted every 2 hours. The ceremony is pretty cool and they change the guards at every post in the courtyard. The museum is not that great, but it has some nice exhibits and history. I cannot remember how much it costs for entry to the Amalienborg Museum, but if you plan on visiting a few attractions and plan on riding the public transportation (buses, train, light rail), then you can save a lot of money by purchasing the Copenhagen Card!!!

This museum is a perfect combination of art- but not just the art inside, but the building itself…read more Inside and out, it is an exhibition with equal level to the statues and exhibits inside. The ceilings especially, with no room the same, are bursting with colorful designs and patterns. Combine this with the floors, which are beautiful mosaics, you get an incredible atmosphere. Moving on from the building itself, the statues are all incredible. With an enormous array of art, it is hard to find something you don't like. Given, some are better than others (obviously), but I can assure you that you'll be able to learn a lot and see a lot walking around the building. Another thing to note is the personal collection of artifacts and books of the artist. It is filled with Greek and Roman pottery, coins, century-old books, and much more. This covers three or four rooms, and this is just as fascinating as the rest.

This is an immense museum for sculpture, the colors of the building outside and inside are noteworthy and cool. In brief, neo-classicism which Bertel is famous for, is about bigger than life almost hyberbolic (and romantic) representation of a subject. Don't laugh, that's the simplest I could describe Thorvaldsen's sculptures from what I've learned at the museum. I always wondered why a Scandinavian would be in Italy learning from the masters because you see his work in Roma. It turns out Bertel was very gifted, he won a 'scholarship' of sorts from the monarchy to go to Italy and perfect his art. He came back to Danmark to a heroes welcome after many years of studying in Italy. He was so revered by the monarchy, his museum sits next to the Christianborg palace...... must be nice. I'm not well versed with appreciating sculpture but from a gut level, his works rock and garner many many appreciation points from me. One less star: The free audio tour was on old pseudo iPod lookin' mp3 player on Windows OS, yuch, failed miserably and had to swap it twice. Visits: 2 Tip: If you're in CPH for a couple days, get a Copenhagen card as this is one of the museum freebies. The basement (coat check and lockers) is haunted. I went upstairs and asked and the front desk had very cool and interesting stories to tell about 'sightings''. Bertel is buried in the courtyard and you can look out from the first floor.

Seeing the ships inside was great, and even the food at the cafe was tasty. Super easy to get to from Copenhagen (although the walk from the train was a little long and hilly if you have mobility issues). Really enjoyed this spot and really opened my eyes to Danish history- theyre also doing something so unique in making these boats. If you want to sail on the boats get tickets online in advance or get their early-they were sold out by the time we got there at about 11.

Along the way, there are different signs you can read, and a little area inside the wall near the top where you can see all the way down to the bottom. The top is windy, but it's nice to see all the landmarks and colorful houses from the top. Definitely worth the visit.

With its distinctive spiral ramp, the Round Tower has become a Danish landmark. Here are some notable facts and points of interest: 1.The Hollow Core: the shape of the tower was Denmark's geographical zero point. 2. There is an Observatory which houses a telescope built in 1929. 3. The Library Hall is used for changing exhibits, cultural events and concerts 4. The Spiral Ramp will get you to 10,000 steps easily; it is the only way to the top of the tower and spins 7 1/2 times around the Tower's hollow core. Believe me, you feel those twists as you climb. 5. The Bell Loft is situated above the Library Hall and two floors above the Trinity Church where the bells have rung for hundreds of years. 6. The Platform: once you climb the narrow stairs you are atop and can see all of Copenhagen's charms and Sweden. During the summer there is a kiosk that sells sweet treats 7. The Planetarium: shows the solar system I highly recommend visiting Rundetaarn. It is located in Norreport; beautiful shops and restaurants. It's not a big museum but it is well done. They also have a large outdoor courtyard that on a nice day you can spend some time relaxing in some funky design chairs. You don't need a ticket to enjoy this area. They have free lockers to store your backpacks when touring the museum.

We explored the museum for 1-1.5 hours. Admission is 140 DKK (~19 EUR or $21 USD) per person. There's free storage lockers to put away your coat and backpack. Overall, highly recommend to visit.

Be sure to grab a free audio guide, as that's how those narratives play out. If you watch/listen to every segment, this experience can easily take over two hours. Lots of interesting information about the occupation, resistance, insider political debates, and Danish Jews. There's a modest-size cafe on the upper floor that's quite nice and overlooks a park. They have smørrebrød and other things. The museum shop is also lovely, with some interesting items that I found unique. The bathrooms are clean and nice and spacious.

Once you get here, you walk in a maze covered floor to ceiling with information and artifacts. Through it all, you take approximately an hour, give or take 15 minutes. There was a person who was discussing a topic at a point in the exhibit, but it was in Danish. Most of the information is in both English and Danish, but many of the artifacts do not have translations.

As a result, Denmark has a very very small Jewish population today estimated at less than 6000. In this light, it was nice to see a Jewish museum and that the country spends a lot of money protecting it. (Heavily armed police sit outside in a car during the hours that it is opened watching everyone approaching the entrance.) It cost about $15 US to enter. You cannot take any bags with you on the tour. After you pay, they will take everything and place it into a locker and give you the key. Once you get inside, the museum is very quiet, serene, and lends itself towards meditation. The museum is small, has limited artifacts, and some of the visual screens were not working when I was there. It seems like the place needs an investment of capital or volunteer labor to keep it up. It did have some interesting pieces and a couple of introductory videos. It tells the story of Jews in Denmark. I was able to work my way through in 45 minutes seeing everything. They have a bathroom and gift shop. The people working there seemed to be Jewish college students attending school in Copenhagen. Interestingly, while I was there for about an hour, there were only about 5 other visitors and 2 of them were from Beverly Hills and Westwood--go figure. We ended up talking about the LA area with the Copenhagen employees. Now, the area with greenery and benches right outside the museum entrance is beautiful and a great place to sit or have a picnic lunch on a nice day. I would check it out if you are in the area.

Because we should never forget the horrors of the holocaust, I was drawn to this museum from…read morereading about the history of the Jews in Denmark on the plane to Copenhagen. The Danish Jewish Museum, a part of the Royal Library, sits off an austere somewhat hidden street, a passage. As you turn into the site, the property opens into a serene pond, a calm, reassuring peace takes over you.....you see a small nest in this pond, a symbol that yes, here too, you can. There's a beautiful ivied building (the library, HOME) and to its left, a somewhat discreet entrance to the main museum and the first words you read is Mitzvah. Chabad.org defines mitzvah as, "In common usage, a mitzvah often means "a good deed"--as in "Do a mitzvah and help Mrs. Goldstein with her packages." This usage is quite old--the Jerusalem Talmud commonly refers to any charitable act as "the mitzvah." It is this definition of mitzvah that swelled in my consciousness when I walked through the museum, its two collections: the artifacts and the Home (the Jewish experience after returning home from WWII). The Danes and the Swedes protected the Jews during WWII. The artifacts are classic immigrant symbols of survival, tradition and religion. The angled floors and walls remind one of how a passenger felt on the boat from Denmark to Sweden; the rocking sensation also symbolized the anxiety one felt when they arrived to their new home, a new country. The stories at HOME, were compelling. For their mitvahs, I am in awe of the Danish and Swedish people. Through this museum, I've seen tolerance, protection of human beings......chillingly admirable. Today many of us seek reparation for the wrongs committed in history. Destruction of a culture of people is wrong in every sense perceivable. We hope to get there. This museum is a symbol to the world of tolerance, protection and........ because we should never forget.
