A few hours later, I went back in, and it was exactly the same. Nothing had been done. The room was OK, I guess. The drapes wouldn't close because they were broken. Carpet loaded with cigarette burns. The bathroom did not have any soap. My husband had to go ask for it. The building is in desperate need of renovation, but that will never happen here. Clearly, the owner is too cheap to fix it up. Reminds me of a hotel that the drunks end up at after last call. I wouldn't bring a pet to that motel. It's a dump. Fix it up. Oh, and the funniest part was the parking designated for Choice Diamond members. The entire parking lot is broken pavement, with weeds growing through it. LOL Almost too much to believe.

The reviews were way better and overall very good so I booked. I'm so glad I did. Don't base your judgement from the parking lot, which needs some work. Our room and the bathroom was super clean as well as the breakfast area and the lobby. The bathroom had a few spots in the shower that needed some help but the bathroom was very clean and the soap, shampoo, conditioner was full! I love that Hilton provides that in all their spaces. They have snack bar in the lobby with any snack and drinks that can be charged to your room, but there is a few fast food options right within the area and there is a new Aldi at the end of the parking lot. I would definitely take a walk and stock up on some snacks and drinks for your room. We were a little nervous because the area is not really diverse so we didn't want to stand out but the staff was friendly and welcomed us and addressed anything we needed. I needed a late checkout and they accommodated me easily. The pool looked clean and they have a small gym with a Peleton and a few others machines. I didn't go in but it looked clean based on what I saw. My favorite part was the breakfast! It was fully stocked and they had some other extras that I haven't seen in other Hiltons specifically omlettes, sausage/bacon and hash browns/potatoes. The first day they had an egg white frittata with green bell peppers and it was SO good. The next day they had cheese omelettes. I enjoyed the selection for breakfast and again the area was very organized and clean. If you have a choice of where to stay in this area I would choose this one.

We also enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub, and of course the gorgeous patio and firepits overlooking the lake which was 80% of the reason we booked here. All of the staff we encountered, from the front desk to the housekeepers, were very friendly. I did think it was a little strange that the fitness center was in a whole different building and you have to walk across the parking lot to get to it, but hey--you get your steps in. The hotel is also very centrally located. On the water, of course, but next door to Seneca Harbor Station from which you can book lake cruises. It's also less than a mile from the entrance to Watkins Glen State Park and hiking trails and only a 5-10 minute walk from most restaurants. We did most things on foot. When you do get back in the car, there are multiple wineries within a 15-minute drive. The only problem the whole visit was the hotel internet, which was terrible every day. You could make do in the daytime, but at night, when everyone was back in their rooms after the day out exploring, it was slow to the point of unusable, and I ended up turning on my data hotspot to even be able to check my email. I would not suggest bringing time-sensitive work with you, and you should not expect to be able to stream videos on your devices. Just disconnect, you'll be less frustrated. There is an onsite restaurant and bar, and while it's nothing mind-blowing, it is a nice option to have (and is one of the few "higher end" type places in Watkins Glen). Menu includes a few of the standard local wines, which was nice!

Breakfast was standard hotel breakfast, only pork sausage and powdered eggs, waffles or pancakes. No oatmeal, just cereal, and an instant Folgers coffee machine, first time i have seen one. Ultimately we had to notify the police for the clerk & manager to take the incident seriously. The result was checking out of the room within another hour & no refund being offered. If you want a clean, safe accommodation I recommend looking elsewhere. I recommend the Quality Inn where at least you will have a safe nights stay.
