We have a older house, and so will be slowly renovating. DHW will be our first priority of places to come to for that vintage look, as well as the current stuff. I'd know because I spend most of my time thrifting…read more On my most recent visit to HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE McKINNEY (September 13, 2025) they had a table set up with all kinds of tools and hardware, with a sign attached to the front stating "all items $3.67 each." Great. So I picked out a couple of tools (a small wrench and something else), went up to the counter to pay, and they rung up as $12-something total--or 2x THE PRICE MARKED AT THE TABLE! So I asked the very unfriendly cashier what's up? She said "the sign on the table doesn't refer to ALL the items on the table." ?? So they're mispricing items. They KNOW they're mispricing items. They refuse to honor their own marked prices! The whole building (it's quite large) is a dingy, dirty, smelly industrial zone. It looks and feels like a former factory or automotive manufacturing facility. The building literally doesn't have a floor (the "floor" is actually a parking lot!). No air conditioning, which is excusable, but you'd think they'd be more friendly and organized (and honest) to make up for some of the negatives. No such luck. They do have a nice variety of items--occasional free books by the front door, for example--but the furniture and office chairs have some kind of sticky "film" on them... such that when you touch an item, your hands immediately feel clammy and dirty, as if you just finished cleaning a toilet. A lot of the construction materials (the rear and largest section of the store) are in very poor, secondhand condition; they appear to be leftovers from construction jobs. Many items are very badly broken and damaged. I can't think of anyone who'd want these items for any kind of home improvement project. It's almost like they were sent here from previous Habitat for Humanity projects instead of going to the landfill, where they belong. In the past I enjoyed the occasional visit (and more so since they closed the Plano store), but rarely, if ever, purchased anything. And now, with them not honoring marked prices, it's totally deceitful and dishonest. Not going back.

I was looking for a gift that I needed by 9/19, with her own self-imposed timeline of two weeks to get a proof of a custom family portrait, this put expected delivery on 9/18.. I realized I was cutting it close, but that was ok.. if it came a couple days late I'd live. So I went ahead and ordered on Tuesday 8/28, and This meant I was expecting to see a proof by 9/12. Thursday 9/13 rolled around, and I was thinking about cancelling, but I was worried she had already done work on it, so I messaged her and asked about the status, she assured me that it would be ready on 9/14. Well, it was pretty late in the day on 9/14 and it looked like no proof would be offered, so I again wished to cancel, and again, felt bad if she had already done some work on it, so I decided instead to offer to still buy it for a 20% discount for each additional day it was late, or to otherwise cancel. She then canceled (yay!) the order and called my offer to still buy it at a discount "rude." Ok, well, sure, maybe one could see it as "rude" but I think that was a misunderstanding, since, as I explained, my intention was actually to cancel but I felt bad if she had done work on it so (graciously, I thought) offered an alternative. Even if a misunderstanding leads you to think a customer is being rude, who freakin says it to a customer, and then also says, "please don't contact me anymore I have many wonderful customers who don't behave this way." Like what's the point of that other than to make the customer feel crappy? What's rude is to not follow through on your commitments, so perhaps she was just projecting her own rudeness onto me? Who knows. Either way, get some therapy, lady! Uh, jeez lady, sorry I was holding you to your own timeline because this becomes more and more worthless to me the further away from 9/19 I get. I could have gotten this custom portrait from any number of other Etsy folks reselling the same clip art library, but I trusted you, and now it's too late for me to seek out an alternative. Actually, maybe I'll save myself a few bucks and do it myself. When I asked to cancel the order and refund, I was told they could not do that. Instead while I was at work they kept emailing me stating they were checking back and I was like check back on what. Instead of telling me what, they changed by order from a canvas print to a digital order and refunded $35 without my permission. Then I am told to stop emailing them. We had previous experience with faux material on RV furinture and would not have purchased the couches if it was known. Had no reason not to belive himIn May 2024 the faux material started to peel, calld Ricks home store and they arranged to have the couch backs re-covered at a addtional cost of $400.00. Didn`t have much of a choice but to have it done. The re-covering was done properley. Now were stuck with having some type of cover on the couches to keep from having the pealing issue again. Aparently we should have had him provide the mfg. information before purchasing. Now were paying for dealing with Rick`s Home Store.
