I was excited for the grand opening of the Dollar Tree in Westlake, FL and arrived at 7:30 a.m. for the 8:00 a.m. opening. Unfortunately, the store couldn't open on time due to permit issues, which I understand was beyond the staff's control.
What was disappointing was the lack of communication. During the two hours I waited, staff only came out twice with updates. Most information came from customers stopping employees as they were coming or going. We were told it could be "10 minutes or an hour," so everyone continued waiting. It was especially sad hearing that some kids had even set alarms so they wouldn't miss the grand opening.
The ribbon cutting was held inside the store while those of us waiting outside watched through the glass, which was disappointing. They did come outside and offer everyone cake, which was a nice gesture. Eventually, when we saw employees leaving and heading to their cars, many of us finally gave up and left.
I returned later that day once they opened, and the store itself was clean, spacious, organized, and fully stocked. Great location and a nice store overall. I look forward to visiting again, but the grand opening experience could have been handled much better. read more
