I loved this particular Uptown Cheapskate ever since I was a student at TXST. After graduating,…read moreevery time I'm in San Marcos, I always stop here and each time, I have always left with some items. After looking at some reviews, I do agree, majority of the clothes are leaning more towards the younger audience, but it makes sense because it is located in a college town. The clothes I see in Dallas are more diverse, but leaning more towards the mature side. So, the clothes they have do depend on the location of the Uptown. For this particular location, I think they're pretty good on having clothes that are trendy and up-to-date for college students. The most recent visit I had was very pleasant. They were doing an event for an anniversary and I was welcomed with a coupon at the door which was nice! I ended up a few things including a pair of Aerie Crossover Flowy Shorts for such an amazing price that I couldn't even find looking through Depop and Poshmark. After checking out, I was given a swag bag that had some cute pieces in there and I left with a cookie lol. I love and miss San Marcos so much! This place is also one of the reasons why I enjoy coming back. I remember thrifting in SanMo wasn't always the best specifically for me, but I think this place is guaranteed to have the items you're looking for. Of course, Uptown will cost more than a thrift store, but I don't mind that because it makes it more efficient for me to find items in excellent condition.

They told me it was not in style, yet had the SAME THINGS ON THE RACK. Comical. Then the manger was useless. Typical. Save yourself some time and stay away from this shit show.

I don't shop here very regularly; I pop in when I need to replace work clothes--plain khakis/jeans that can withstand general abuse, weather and animals--and sometimes I find amazing bargains. I should say I've never been one with the patience/time to comb through the racks (there are a lot) so if you are, it might be worth a try for budgeting and back-to-school. Today I got a 6pk of low cotton socks ($7), a 5pk of microfiber bikinis ($10), and two pairs of cotton/poly trousers ($15 tan, $22 black)--all of these were made in Bangladesh. Also got one Maidenform brand UW t-shirt bra for $20. That's pretty good for $80 after tax. That's nearly outfitting an adult when the luggage got shipped to Fiji or when donating to a shelter wish list. The layout changes almost every time I go, but the greeters and cashiers have been friendly (I haven't needed assistance on the sales floor yet) and they have lots of last minute doodaddery along the winding checkout chute reminiscent of Bed Bath and Beyond. I will say this--they've outlasted a hell of a lot of shops surviving in the same spot for more than two decades.

How can I do business with a company that is going to charge me anything, especially $8, just to try something on to see if it fits? Outrageous! Due to health reasons I've lost a bunch of weight and no longer know what fits me. I want to buy 10 pairs of jeans but don't know what size. And you are going to charge me $8 every time I try something on? NOPE! Not going to happen!!
