Believe it or not, the Family Dollar in Rocky Ford is a popular place frequented by everyone in the area to grab some essentials. For those of us that are in touch with our inner Yelp soul and have lived in a big time city long enough, you'd have to agree that the Family Dollar hype is all festered up by default. Being the only store in Rocky that serves as a "discount/department store," I call it a convenient place to get "other than" products. Defined: Other Than food products. Of course they have a healthy amount of food here but you'll come to find that they're also equipped with the basics you need for your home and family to keep them up to speed in the game of life. Like your local Wal-mart, Target, or Walgreens, they have several little departments. Different food sections, kitchen paper goods, clothing, baby gear, seasonal doo-dads, cleaning supplies, toiletries, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!! The first thing that popped into my head was that this place has "Big Lots" appeal. A watered down version of a Big Lots at that! I've passed by this store many times before even stepping a single foot into it and I, too, was a victim of my own misconception. I thought we were in the money because it was a DOLLAR store. You know, nothing over a dollah dollah bill! Boy was I wrong. The price point is all over the place from you dollar items all the way up to your inflatable pools that can cost anywhere from 10 to 60 bucks. All the material products are moderately priced and the food can be a toss up compared to the market. Overall the feel of the offerings can be a little on the bargain and cheap side of things. Nonetheless, I'd have to hand it to them because they do try to harp on the dollar scheme. Dollar packs of this and dollar goodies of that. Sure, it isn't the best that money can buy but you can walk outta there with a few deals. I even saw a dollar box of Oh's cereal but a smaller version of the original. Hence my headline! Family Dollar can't compare to the key players out there but in lonely areas of the world, it fits right in!

I am an older woman who has bladder issues. But the girl working Sunday morning, June 27 said she could loose her job if she let me use the bathroom, even for an emergency!! Dollar General from now on!!
