I remember visiting North Carolina and going to Gabe's. I love that it's a discounted bargain store. We pulled up and there's plenty of parking. This store is - odd.. they do carry a wide variety of lightweight home furnishings and decor, seasonal items, beauty, clothing, shoes, housewares, toys, gourmet food items, accessories, and baby stuff.. but it's so disorganized.. it's nearly impossible to look for anything.. it's like if Dollar General and TJ Maxx had a baby- it could be Gabe's.. All of the inventory is in good condition and not very close to expiry so it's a good place to check out if you've just moved and need a few specific items to fill your home. Word of warning: checking out can take a while so don't come here if you're in a hurry.

I normally go the Dollar Tree in Troy (in the Walmart plaza) but I was on my way to Panera to pick up curbside, and this was the only dollar store in that area. It had kind of an old/funky smell inside. I saw they had cards through the window, so that was encouraging, but their Halloween selection is pretty limited; they maybe had like 10 different card designs to choose from, but 7-8 of those were for little kids (grandkids, children, etc). I ended up buying five for family and friends, and good thing I did because they have a $5 minimum limit for credit cards. The final reason I'm giving them 3 stars: the cashier was not wearing a mask. The man next to him beside the counter was, FWIW. He had a very thin layer of plastic sheeting between me and him, so I'm guessing that's why he thought it was fine ... however, I'm "high risk," so I definitely wiped off my credit card with a wipe when I got back to my car. I wouldn't stop by here again, I will just go to Dollar Tree next time. But they do have a lot of cards (non-Halloween ones) if you need them.

The place is packed with virtually everything you could need in a corner store. Food pantry items, milk, eggs, frozen foods, and the cheapest and best bread around. The store has a unique charm that only a private owner could pull off. The owner is on staff almost every day and is happy to accommodate special requests, (within reason). They seem to be having a price war with the place next store, so enjoy the savings.

Not one time did she have a conversation with me and to be honest, I was putting things back together and in the right box but I digress. The bins are gross. You have to take your "chances" with any box. They have an opening station only after you have bought and paid for the item. Also more money grabs when you use a card regardless if it's debit or credit. Go a few miles south to Brothers. They are honest, up front and genuine. I would not recommend anyone go here and just head south to Brothers.
