As an ex-employee at this Dollar Tree, I have a few things I would like to make clear to potential customers here. For starters, this store is run very, very poorly. Things in the building are constantly breaking down and not being fixed. For instance, the air conditioning is worthless. The store is always hot, and I received countless complaints from customers while I was working there about how uncomfortable it is. The store manager, Jackie Schimanski, decided to try and hush up the complaints by bringing in a cheap, small fan that barely even works to blow on the employees. You can barely even feel the air circulating. Second, employees at this job are treated like absolute garbage. The sales associates are expected to sacrifice their lives entirely over to the company. If an employee tries to request a day off for any reason, be it medical or family obligations or a loved one passing away (who is not immediate family, such as a parent or sibling), you are chastised by the store manager and reminded that A) she does not have to give you that day off, and B) you're making things really difficult for her. I suppose the fine print of the application must state that you agree to put the company over everything else in your life, even your physical or mental health. This also applies to calling in sick. Third, the aforementioned manager would constantly chastise her employees for whatever she could possibly find. For instance, if an employee spent a particular amount of time straightening out a section, she would specifically look for something that isn't absolutely perfect and heckle the employee about it. Meanwhile, she would constantly talk to the other employees about how that one employee just can not do their job correctly, and how she is the only one who knows what she is doing. Perhaps it is just me and my opinion, but that seems to me like it could be classified as mental abuse, at least to an extent. Fourth, the aforementioned manager would harass the employees about their customer service behaviors, while at the same time acting even worse towards the customers herself. In my time of employment at this establishment, I had received numerous complaints from customers about the manager's "rudeness", "poor attitude", "harsh tone", and "lack of respect". I myself would hear the ways that she spoke to the customers, the tone of voice she would use, and I would also witness the body language that she would display to the customers. Fifth, the aforementioned manager showed clear and obvious favoritism towards some of her staff, while constantly looking down on her other employees. Some people were allowed to get away with far worse behaviors than others, had no disciplinary action taken against them, and were permitted far more freedom with attendance changes. I believe that favoritism in a workplace is completely wrong, and everyone should be treated equally. Sixth and finally, the aforementioned manager likes to spread false information about her employees to the other associates in the establishment. She would make outright lies and falsehoods and spread them among her staff to try and persuade people to do what she wanted them to do. In my opinion, this is incredibly unprofessional and deserves action taken against it.
As I was an employee there, I'm sure that my opinion does not matter much to anybody. But I urge you to rethink shopping at this location, for your own sake and the employees' sakes alike. read more
