I'm writing this review in light of the news that the ever famous nationwide Dollar Tree stores will be rising their prices.* Dollar King in Pico Rivera, CA, beat Dollar Tree to the punch when it comes to lifting sales prices in hopes of increasing their profit margins. With my two little ones in tow, we were curious about this store in comparison to Dollar Tree. As far as I can tell, most of the items are (not surprisingly) comparable. Per typical American fashion, many items are made overseas, which significantly correlate with freight costs and shipping delays.* Why the hell do you think cargo containers are still just sitting at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach? On September 18, 2021, most items were $1.31. In fact, signage along the pricing strips on the shelves said, "Nothing over $1.31." This has been a steady trend over the years as evident by the reviews. Then we saw a notice about prices to increase as of October 1, 2021. I bring this up because while I posted that photo of the notice to their business page, for some reason it is not being publicized. I can see it on my photos section, but not their page. That is utter bull. I do not appreciate that lack of transparency from whoever is initiating such nonsense (Dollar King? Yelp? Another Yelper who complained?) So our 11 items came out to $14.41 (not including tax). Plastic shopping bags are $.10 each. The employees were not welcoming. No greeting. No personality whatsoever when we were checking out. I am so glad that I just saw comment regarding this store that vocalizes the same concern as I have. Makes me have hope that some people still have humanity in them. WHY IS THIS STORE SELLING FISH IN TINY CUPS? WHY??? That is some seriously inhumane thing to do, the poor fish are in tiny cups. If this store plans to sell fish, please do everyone and all beings a favor by providing a more spacious and ethical environment for them. Like wow... I will no longer ever step foot into this establishment. I will gladly go to other discount stores such as the 99¢ store, Ross, Marshalls's etc. Can't believe that we still have issues like this in 2024. Today while checking out to our surprise my daughter was asked to "take the items she had in her sleeves out" by an employee named Gisselle. I went in there last night last minute, the store was closing in 10 minutes, but the girl who helped me went above and beyond to find what I needed. She told me she got hired recently and she knew they carried the string I needed she just wasn't sure which aisle. She ran to check her aisles and sure enough she came with the string I needed. She was very polite and attentive! I've never had the best service there before! I love this store and will be coming back!! read more

I purchase a glue gun to finish a project quickly. I was on the 2nd glue stick when it stopped working. It was less than an hour, I went back to store and the young man (worker) said all opened packages can't be returned because they're considered damaged. I told him how can I use something without opening it. He just didn't really have a good response and pointed to the no return policy. So I told him, so you can sell crap and customers just lose. He again looked confused and pointed to their sign. I understand it was a few dollars, but they just lost a regular customer. I'm a teacher, I went there many times to get things for my students. Buyers beware twice I purchased quite a few item and when I returned home to find out quite a few items were missing 6 the first time and 4 the second time, the first time I called and they did remember of any leaving any thing behind but they finally found the person who acknowledged I left some things behind but they returned every back to stock and it had only been one hour never leaving it up front to save In case I could have returned to pick it up I thought that was odd so I went back and pick out again everything I could rememberd I had purchased. Love Love Love this store I used to drive all the way to the one in Sunland & visit my brother in Shadow Hills!! You never know what you are going to find I try to stop in at least once a week. I have got some killer deals on great products. They used to have some great jewelry at the one in Sunland this Pico location I have only found a few good pieces hoping that they get more. I have also not seen the good incense from Shrinivas Sugandhalayaya (sng) LLP The Nag Champa is the best I used to buy the whole box in Sunland because I didn't know how soon I would be back that way.. The cashier said he thought they got them but they sell out (Maybe they should order a bunch more) Yeah I agree with the other poster they need to have signs letting people know they are open I looks like they aren't from the street.. I think they would get lots more business.
