Recently, I only needed a couple items so I did curbside pickup. Should be easy enough right? Wrong. I hate their parking lot even more now because the curbside spaces are in the MIDDLE of it! Every other nearby one has curbside located on one of the sides of the building. When I finally realised the spaces were in the middle, there was only 1 open one... and soon I saw why as I watched at least 3 cars park and go into the store! Ughhh. Sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting. Oh did I mention you'll encounter some of the most idiotic drivers in Galveston county here too? I almost got into 2 accidents in that dumbazz parking lot on that trip alone. NEVER AGAIN.

My response, "the shopping cart is in the way," as it usually is, "how can I do that?" She completly ignores me. "You can slide your card any time after the first item is scanned." She is obviously in too much of a hurry, I don't like being herded like cattle even if a line is forming behind me. My last negative encounter before this, I scooted the cart over a little so I could indeed slide the card early. The cashier slams it back over immediately while glaring at me. She wasn't short and could easily reach over the side. Just another control freak. I wish they would make up their minds. It doesn't matter any longer though. Kroger exclusively from now on.

I saw things that I haven't seen at grocery stores in Florida. We purchased a few snacks along the way for our TNF game. The SugarBee apples were difficult to pass up. They were sweet & juicy. A great evening snack. We were also very pleased with the Lindt Dubai Chocolate. These were the real deal (Manufactured in Germany). I'd purchased some recently at a drug store that didn't taste the same as what we had in Switzerland. It was manufactured in New Hampshire, and had more of a hazelnut flavor. The ones at Kroger were truly pistachio. Loved it! You wouldn't think there's a difference, but there is. I was also blown away by the display of tamales. I'd be at this grocery store more often if I lived in Texas. Is it better than Publix? That's difficult to say. They both have their share of pros and cons. All I can say is that I'd be just as happy shopping at Kroger.

It made me think are all stores in Clear Lake are all bad. Because just 2 establishments right next to each other were bad. It was a small shopping trip. I found some good deals with in-store coupons. I scanned 2 coupons and it had a validation problem. The self check out attendant was able to clear it. But I can't scan the 3rd coupon because I forgot to ring it up. So, he came over and did something. After I completed the transaction and found no coupons were used. I asked him what happened to the coupons. He said they were already applied. I didn't have time to argue with him. After I got home, I checked my photos. Bull fuvking shit!!' Such a liar. I could have saved $3.50 with coupons. I'm not going to drive 50 miles to talk to someone in Clear Lake H-E-B for adjustment. I'm not going back to shop in Clear Lake anymore. After these 2 incidents, I'll skip to the next town or just do my shopping in Houston. I'm so angry. I still have to get to an H-E-B store get these figured out.

Arlan's has served Galveston for longer than I have been alive. From it's rebranding of Gerland's…read more26 years ago to its recent buyout by the La Michoacana Meat Market last December, this grocery store has prevented the East End from becoming a food desert, especially for nearby residents who don't have easy vehicle access. Many of the items are more expensive but still comparable to the prices of Kroger, Randall's, and Walmart way out on the West End. The selection of groceries aren't wide but all the usual produce and necessities can be found here. Even though I still opt for Kroger whenever I have a large grocery list, a quick trip here for milk or pasta saves me an additional 20 minutes that I would otherwise have to spend driving. If I can cut down a significant amount of time AND support a locally owned store, then so be it if I'm spending an extra dollar on milk. I recently picked up some discounted protein pasta that was actually cheaper than what I normally pay at Kroger. However, the cucumbers that I also bought during that visit tasted somewhat funky. I personally believe that ratings have a relative component to them which is what grants Arlan's a 3rd star despite their okay prices and occasionally odd-tasting produce. It's a vital part of the East End's community and without it, many of Galveston's residents would be left underserved.

Selection is pretty good with decent produce, deli, meat, beer, and wine. Frozen section is adequate. Dairy is weak and expensive. Regardless, everything you might need is available here and butter and eggs are expensive everywhere. Anyway, it's a full service grocery store on the east end and it's pretty decent. You want fancier, it's sixty blocks west at Kroger.
