My husband and I booked and Airbnb for a couple nights and intended to make food in the kitchen, but the Airbnb didn't communicate the best and listed this IGA as a "nearby grocery store." It is right in the heart of Lubec, and it did have most essentials. However, the prices are super high and you don't really have the best selection. We lucked out and ended up with some delicious chicken thighs to bbq up, but ended up with a pretty basic marinade. There wasn't exactly a gourmet ingredient selection, but understandable for such a tiny town at the easternmost point of the US of A. The store provided the essentials so we didn't have to drive all the way back to Machias, but I wouldn't recommend this as a "main" shopping stop. If you're visiting Lubec, just make the stops at a bigger, regular supermarket in Machias. Otherwise this IGA is perfect for last minute, forgotten essentials.

This Sobey is located up on the hill close to Costco. I was surprise this Sobey is called 'Extra' and was not sure why. While she was inside I noticed a window at the far end of the building with a sign that simply read "TAKE OUT ONLY". I thought if I went to the window, she would come out with a second order of whatever they had. We she emerged with chips and cookies. I asked about the take out and she said there was nothing inside and she purposely looked for ready to eat food. I was delighted when the lady at the window said she sold fried chicken and potato wedges. I thought a 6 piece would fill us up and was surprised with the size and quality. Particularly after a recent bad super oily bucket from KFC. The chicken here was large breast, thigh and legs. We sat in the parking lot until it was all gone.
