Since moving here 2 years ago this has become my favorite place to shop. Most of what they sell is salvage and overstock from other stores which most of the time means that if boxes are crushed or torn, packages have been opened, companies have changed the labeling on products or if they just have too much stock on hand, you will save BIG by purchasing at Marden's. Some of my finds have been: -Interior paint for $5, selling for $15 elsewhere -Vitamins, supplements & OTC meds for 30-60% less -End of season clothing on clearance for $5 or less -Popular hair appliances for about 50% off -Skincare and hair products for about 50% off -Foods for about 50% off -Home decor & kitchen items for about 50-75% off If you are a bargain shopper then you will love this place, be careful though because they don't have regular inventory, so you can't count on something still being there the next time you come in. My husband and I booked and Airbnb for a couple nights and intended to make food in the kitchen, but the Airbnb didn't communicate the best and listed this IGA as a "nearby grocery store." It is right in the heart of Lubec, and it did have most essentials. However, the prices are super high and you don't really have the best selection. We lucked out and ended up with some delicious chicken thighs to bbq up, but ended up with a pretty basic marinade. There wasn't exactly a gourmet ingredient selection, but understandable for such a tiny town at the easternmost point of the US of A. The store provided the essentials so we didn't have to drive all the way back to Machias, but I wouldn't recommend this as a "main" shopping stop. If you're visiting Lubec, just make the stops at a bigger, regular supermarket in Machias. Otherwise this IGA is perfect for last minute, forgotten essentials.

Not great for fresh produce but they've got the basics. If you want something fancier (bakery, deli, fresh lettuce, you know, FANCY stuff) you're going to have to go to the Machias Shop n' Save. Every once in a while they'll have a great sale, so if you want 8 jars of SKIPPY Superchunk, you just might be able to get them for $5...you never know.

And after all that, the food was mediocre -- we paid around $50 for it. The one genuine positive was the view of the water, which was stunning. Lubec is a long way out of the way for most people -- the appeal is being the easternmost point in the US, with genuinely lovely scenery. But that's exactly what makes this frustrating: this restaurant knows most visitors are here once, won't be back, and have limited other options nearby. It's hard not to feel like that's being taken advantage of rather than earning the visit. Wouldn't rush back, and if I were traveling through again, I'd look elsewhere.

They were stocking the pizza display as we arrived. They also sell lottery tickets. Plenty of parking out front.
