They have some expanded departments over the three Brunswick stores, which was really helpful because I visited the Glynn Ave store earlier and couldn't find the gift tissue paper colors I wanted. SSI store had a nice selection and wrapping paper and ribbons in expanded selections that Glynn Ave didn't. I was also able to find reusable bags that I use in place of gift bags because they're stronger for heavy gifts, and last more uses than paper gift bags (which I know people reuse, but which end up creased and not great looking to reuse). I don't think I'm the only one to do this gift bag trick because the reusable ones are normally sold out, but there was a decent selection at this SSI store. I believe the Brunswick stores carry more food selections but the SSI store has a huge toy aisle, and very large aisles for other departments as well. It was extremely clean when I was there. Employees were friendly, and helpful. I'm glad for a DT on SSI, especially in an existing shopping center because years ago they were attempting to build in a lot that was claimed by St. Simons Land Trust as greenspace, and many are grateful that land got saved, but now there is a DT and green space too!

All DG's try to squeeze as much as possible into a small area but this store in itself is small so they have really gone above and beyond in the creativity of stocking to get stuff in here. It's like the airplane passenger that wore 4 outfits to avoid baggage overweight. That's this store. If you go thru too fast you will miss something. In conclusion if you go in for toilet paper and bread your fine, anything else, be prepared to spend sometime cause your heads gonna swirl.

Clientele is more subdued, stock is less chaotic, and people aren't frantically rushing to grab something on lunch hour, or doing random weird stuff at night. I did have one really terrible experience at this store (and I visited this DT multiple times over my month staying on Jekyll), and it was when three employees were restocking the pet aisle. They had boxes everywhere, totally blocking off the whole aisle. The store was pretty busy at that time, and all the other customers were having to detour around the aisle because of the huge mess the three employees were making. So I asked them if I could please get one of the dog ball launchers, since I obviously could not get to it myself, and all it would take was for one of them to reach over and hand it to me. The woman at the left of my photo, was going to get it for me, when another woman at the right (and of course the rude woman is hiding behind the older woman on the right) retorted in the nastiest voice "Yeah, you can come get it yourself." Like really tough, like she wanted to find a broken bottle and fight somewhere. Um, wow! That is just about the rudest response I have ever gotten from anyone at a DT ever. I have been repeatedly been given attitude by customers almost every time I go in there. A few months ago my brother ( who is special needs) and I went in the store . Employee then yells at my brother telling him that he always causes problem in the store. Which is far from the truth. He is very well behaved. On 8/15/22 at 8:25 (35 mins before close) I pulled into parking lot. A rude employee was outside yelling at me and 4 other customers saying they was closed. I let her know the sign says they close in 35 mins and she replied "I don't give a f*** if the sign said we close at midnight, we closed and u have to come back another day". Finally after arguing she let us in. After she let us in she was yelling saying she cant get her cleaning done due to us "F***king customers keep coming in."

I purchased a few greeting cards and small bags for a giveaway next weekend. They had tons of Halloween and fall items in stock. I bought a few fall stems for my dining room table. I also purchased several small and medium birthday bags plus crinkle bag filler to keep presents in place. And a few birthday sashes for an upcoming event. This is my go-to spot for these items as no one can beat Dollar Tree prices. I spent $30, and now I will not need to buy birthday items for months. That's a win for me!
