It was a very average burger - remembering it's been in the case a bit, I would have liked the bacon to be cooked just a tad longer. The potato wedges were definitely past their prime and were starting to dry out. But it filled an empy stomach... I'm tempted to try out their Chincoteague oysters - I need to check with Jon L. and see how those turned out! One thing I like about this location is that is DOES NOT smell like cigarettes! I go through Checkout #1, and was rang up by a #Teeter Associate. I was tempted by the sales, and purchased far more than what I had originally gone in there for. I pay with my card, and ease over to the Customer Service counter to play my Powerball numbers, after my items are paid for and bagged. Afterwards, I head towards the door, briefly looking at #Starbucks mugs and glanced over at the holiday candy that was being stocked. In my peripheral vision, I see 2 Managers easing to the front, 'incognito,' or so they thought, but I still didn't give it a second thought, that is UNTIL my cart locked up at the door on a dime. My original thought was that I had ran over an item on the floor, so I tried to move again. By the time I looked up, a Teeter Associate was at my cart with a scanner to UNLOCK the #AutoCartLock that #HarrisTeeterHT have now installed on their carts. When I asked the Associate why my cart locked up, she said, "you were not at the register long enough for the system to deactivate the lock." Like, #WTF!!! What the hell you mean I wasn't at the Associate manned register long enough, when my receipt look like a long #CVS receipt, and it's almost as long as my damn legs, and I'm 5'10" tall?! I didn't use the self-service registers, and have ALWAYS refused to use them! She unlock the cart, and apologize. That's not gonna fly with me! You don't lock my cart up, while other customers behind me walk out without incident! I'm NOT buying the BS they tried to sell me!! I turn around and go directly to CS. Those same 2 Managers come to the counter in an attempt to explain away the stop, NOW blaming it on a broken sensor at Register 1. Now, for the sake of argument, if they KNEW the auto-release-lock sensor was broken, why open the damn register when there are NUMEROUS other registers to open???‍ I'm NOT buying the explanation, because they know as well as I do, why they stopped ME, and not other customers!! Plain and simple, I was stopped because of the color of my skin, PERIOD!! I refunded EVERYTHING on that damn receipt!! I was too humiliated and mad to accept the TWO weak explanations they tried to peddle!! A day before #VeteransDay and this is what I encountered after clearly being scanned by their Associate!! It's one thing to be questioned in the parking lot by a customer when I park in a #Veteran parking space, and it's another blow to be insulted when I shop and PAY for EVERYTHING in my damn cart, inside the store!! #VeteransDay2025 #Army #RetiredArmy

I complained to a floor manager who was very busy, but eventually he opened one register. I had a full cart and considered abandoning it moments before. Fortunately I got through and the person at the register was good, but something has changed in Warrenton recently. Most of the employees assigned to cash registers are slow and barely functional. Not all. In fact, I will go out of my way to avoid certain ones and even stand in a longer line. Particularly ones who sit down. I will still get most items at Walmart, but I have started shopping at other grocery stores for mid week needs. I just don't have time to spend 20 to 30 minutes in checkout. The result is I will spend less money at Walmart.

The first bad interaction we had was when we picked up one of the green carts, to which one of the employees snatched it out of my hands and told me this cart is for the online pick up orders only. Mind you, I had used the green carts before - I preferred them because they could hold more items - and nobody ever told me different. The lady just told me to grab another cart that wasn't green and left as though she hadn't done anything wrong. When I went to complain about it at the desk, they said they couldn't do anything about it but that I was free to pick up another green cart if there was one available. The second bad experience was with a lady working the gas station. We had saved up a lot of points through our purchases to get some money off gas, so I figured well let's try to fill up both our cars with the discount. I didn't see a sign out saying we couldn't, so we lined it up until we hit our max (which I think is 35 gallons). The attendant came telling us we weren't allowed to do that but I asked where did it say we couldn't? If the max is 35 gallons, does it matter where those gallons go into? Nowhere on the Martin's Fuel Savings page does it say you can only fuel one car with those savings. I didn't feel like arguing about it - so we only filled up the one car. God forbid anybody tried to maximize their discounts. Another factor is that the produce at this Martin's has a very annoying habit of going bad very fast. We thought it was just us - but we'd have our fruits and vegetables start to rot 2-3 days after we purchased them here. For reference, we had produce at Walmart last a week or longer - but at Martin's - it's almost like it was always ready to go bad. We noticed this on multiple visits. There was maybe a handful of times that it didn't go bad right away - but we ended up just not getting our produce here before we just quit coming. Lastly, we had one or two bad interactions with some of the other shoppers here. I think some of the folks that shop here have this idea in their mind that only some people of a specific social class shop at Martin's and it's a little hilarious because we're in Culpeper of all places. This town is filled with hardworking men and women and so it's bizarre to see a place that has people think this way. This isn't a Martin's thing - but something we've observed only here. I truly don't think every Martin's shopper thinks this way - it's just sad to have encountered it. It's all to say that I just don't feel comfortable shopping here anymore. If nothing else, the produce has consistently shown to go bad faster than the produce at Walmart and it's cheaper at Walmart than it is over here. It's a shame.
